6 Months Free Netflix for New or Recontracting Optus Customers (3 Months Free for New Prepaid)

1200

grr, just got an optus plan a month ago. Will be calling them to try this on.

Available from 24 March until 5 July, Optus is giving customers the ultimate entertainment experience with a generous Netflix subscription. New and re-contracting customers can get a six month subscription to Netflix through Optus when they sign up to:
home broadband bundle on a $60 plan or above, on a 24 month contract;
a postpaid mobile service on a $60 plan or above, on a 24 month contract; or
a postpaid mobile broadband service on a $30 plan or above, on a 24 month contract.

OR

3 months free (thanks unity1 for this find, $15 prepaid mobile device http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/optus-huawei-…)

Optus is also giving prepaid customers a three month subscription when they purchase any prepaid phone or mobile broadband device and activate the included SIM.

How does Optus’ offer work?

Customers must sign up for an eligible plan between 24 March and 5 July 2015 and activate their service.
Once customers have activated their service they’ll receive a link to Optus’ Netflix page, where they can reclaim their unique Netflix subscription code
Using their unique Netflix subscription code customers can sign-up for their three or six month subscription via the Netflix website.

  • So what Netflix plan are you subscribed to for the 6 months?

    • +3

It's for the $11.99 plan, which give you two simultaneous HD streams. So basically a $71.94 saving to be exact.

      • I called Optus this morning as my contract ended, they could not confirm the netflux plan in the $90 bundle, just mentioned the generic you'll be notified via sms/ email or letter of the netflux details and it will expire September 2015.

        • September 2015? Is it the date when subscription code expire? Because the day the optus link to that code will expire on 5th July.

  • +2

Fixed broadband and postpaid mobile customers will receive a 6-month subscription to Netflix's 'Two Screens at a Time Streaming Plan' (for a total value of $71.94). Prepaid customers will enjoy a 3-month subscription to the same plan (for a total value of $35.97). You can't transfer or redeem these subscriptions for cash or Netflix gift cards.

The value of your subscription might be applied to a different plan, or other services Netflix have on offer. These exchanges could change the duration of your subscription, so make sure you check out Netflix.com/termsofuse.

So sign up to pre-paid get three months? Sign up to post paid get 6 months? Plus one month free trial? 10 months free total?

      • Have to ask Optus on that one ;)

        • +1

Consider the below I'd say it's a possibilty:

Once customers have activated their service they’ll receive a link to Optus’ Netflix page, where they can reclaim their unique Netflix subscription code
Using their unique Netflix subscription code customers can sign-up for their three or six month subscription via the Netflix website.

        • +1

          @sween64:
Don't know what your talking 'bout ;)

  • +6

    this is nice too

Un-metered Netflix: From 17 April, Optus fixed home broadband customers will be able to stream as much Netflix content as they want, without metering

    • I wonder if I'll get that while using the US Netflix :)

      • +2

if you're using a VPN to access US, then Optus probably can't tell that you're using Netflix across that VPN.
I'd assume it would only be Netflix locally - shame I can't stream for free on my mobile also.

        • I don't think this will be the case - when using unblock services the video data is transferred direct to you from netflix's cdn, it should in theory be unmetered regardless of whether it's from the US netflix or from AU netflix (this is assuming you are using an unblock service like unblock-us and not a vpn that sends all traffic via the US).

        • +1

@chiefbodge: Using a US DNS will be resolving the USA server IPs which will come from an entirely different network block than the Australian servers. I doubt the US content will be unmetered.

      • I saw in a whirlpool thread that it will be local Netflix only (I assume as it will be locally cached).

  • You can combine it with a free trial first, so you will get 7 months in total :D

    • how do u do this?

      • +1

sign up for free trial first without optus subscription, then add the code provided by optus later on

  • drat I just renewed my contract a month ago as well … let me know if you have any luck getting this deal - thanks!

  • There's a few different home broadband plans that are $90 with unlimited internet.

    • get the highest one, 90 bucks for unlimited, fetch tv and also a tablet

      • -1

i dont think u can get fetch tv and tablet both

        • well you'd be wrong, its called big home entertainment bundle

        • +3

          @ShinjukuJR:
Big Home Entertainment Bundle no longer available… These are the only choices now:
          http://www.optus.com.au/shop/promotions/unlimited-broadband-…

Notice: If you get the tablet, you don't get the Entertainment channel pack on Fetch.

Previous deal you had unlimited calls to mobile too (cable) and the international calls… but no tablet. I think I'm happy with no tablet.

        • -1

          @Lister55:

I know about the plan, I'm on it…. Ravzter said "you cant get fetch and tablet"

        • -2

          @ShinjukuJR:
Are you telling me you got a tablet?? I'm on that plan.. I didn't get a tablet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you have entertainment channels and everything too?

        • +1

Interestingly.. just found that you can still get the plan that I am on… No tablet.. It is called "$90 Unlimited Cable Bundle" though.. Free speed pack upgrade though!

          https://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/bundles/90-superfast…

        • @Lister55:

Yeah it is very odd. That page was one that popped up on the previous link you posted, when you put in a cable address. The page is still there, and valid, showing "Offer ends 30 April".
          http://www.optus.com.au/shop/promotions/superfast-cable-bund…

        • @Lister55: Hi Lister55, i have the exact same plan as you do, with the bonus speed pack as well. I was told by a optus customer service that my plan is not eligible for netflix 6 months access. Did you get your 6 months netflix access?

        • @bargainfinder: I didn't do anything. They said there was a cancellation fee… this was all on chat… never found out how much the fee was.. and that page i linked to on 24/03 no longer exists.. redirects to standard page…

  • +1

3 month sub if you buy an Optus prepaid device:

Optus is also giving prepaid customers a three month subscription when they purchase any prepaid phone or mobile broadband device and activate the included SIM.

    • I cant imagine that will be unmetered? That will be too good to be true

  • +4

let us know if you manage to add this onto your existing bundle. just tried contacting them and was refused as this is for new customers only :\

  • lol, i just signed a 2 year contract, yesterday…:/

    • +2

14 day contract cooling off period applies for Optus I think… call and ask them to include you with the offer or you'll be disconnecting…?

      • I actually emailed the contact at the bottom of the page to see if they will do anything about it. I just sort of said it sucks to miss by one day, and asked if they would they be happy to include me in the offer anyway.

But thanks for the heads up on the cooling off period kudoz, appreciated :)

        • Can you let us know what happens. Have a family member in a similar situation.

        • Just checked my email for you bud

"Thank you for your email. Optus’ Customer Care team can assist you with your enquiry. Please contact them directly on 133 937 and they’ll sort you out."

          Good luck :)

          @Oxxy:

Ok, another update - i rang them, and said look i have just upgraded, i would have waited if i had known. Was put on hold a couple of times, guy said it was fine for the offer to be extended to me, said i would get an email or text in the next 14 days.

          Cheers

        • @Oxxy:

          Thanks! Will try it myself!

  • I'm already with Optus renewed last year for iohone 6, how to I get this offer?

  • Signed and I must say, for 12 bucks is a no brainer!

    • What $12 are you referring to, sorry?

      • The usual price of HD 2 device streaming? I guess he signed up to Netflix as a paying customer, not Optus to get free Netflix.

        • Yeah, I signed to get the 11 bucks plan after the 3 month period.

  • I recontracted via online chat.

Optus said the voucher code would be emailed to me within 14 working days.

    • yeah I was thinking the samething :)

I tried to confirm with live chat but they didn't seem very sure. Will have to buy one and find out I guess XD

    • +2

Well, that's a prepaid mobile device, should work. Good pickup

      I'll update the deal

      • +1

I got 2 of the 3g sticks and have setup one. now to wait for the sms/email

        • Let us know how you go. Haven't activated mine yet.

        • Hi! I am wondering if you managed to get the netflix voucher codes from activating the prepaid devices you got from Officeworks? Thanks!

        • +1

          @tramrider1234:

Yep got my code now. And it was from one of those usb sticks from Officeworks.

I can't activate the code yet till my trail is over though by the look cause I signed up via Apple tv so Netflix says itunes is looking after my account till then

        • @taurenpally:
I hope it's going to be easy to reinstate itunes billing once the optus freebie ends

        • @melmac77:
          Hmm… interesting. Me too.

        • +1

          @quarrymaster:

I talked to Netflix live chat and they said if you setup your account via a apple tv it shouldn't be a issue to switch how you get billed

  • I recontracted via Webchat two weeks ago, but it doesnt get actioned / recontracted until 27th when bill cycle resets.

what are the chances of me getting it? I doubt it highly so far….I don't actually recontract until the 27th… anyone know?

    • I did the same. Re-contracted to the new $90 Unlimited with Fetch TV and 30 Channel Entertainment pack. I completed the order via online chat on Friday and received a confirmation email today regarding the delivery of my Fetch TV. I went back to online chat tonight
to ask for the Netflix bonus because my new contract starts tomorrow (25/03) and they said their system doesn't show me as upgraded so they can't do anything. They recommended I phone the service line which I will do tomorrow if my bundle isn't upgraded so I can get the Netflix bonus. Before they actually checked my account they said I met the conditions for the bonus.

  • +1

I currently pay $115 for the entertainment bundle. If I call and recontract with them for the $90 plan, I'll be able to get the 6 months of free Netflix right?
Anyone have success with this and did they charge you any fees for recontracting? I'm 12 months into a 24 year contract.

    • They dont. They will put you on the new plan saying it is now only $90. I just did that last week… :-(

      • +2

Just got off the phone with them. I'm now on the $90 plan and they said I'll receive a text or e-mail with a unique code for the Netflix deal.

        • I will have to try.

    • +1

I just called Optus today. They will recontract you with no additional fees.
Also, I was told that all Optus customers will be offered the 6 month Netflix offer and if you go to the Netflix website, you can get 1 month free trial, so you can get a total of 7 months free :) Use the 1 month free and then use the Optus certificate. Good luck!
      https://www.netflix.com/au/

  • Hahah! Already got a free powerline adaptor from them, will try for free Netflix as well!! :)

    • How did you get free powerlines adapter?

  • my cable contract (new) started from 3 months ago, can I get the 6 Months Free Netflix 'bonus'?

    • Same, let us know how you go. Did you get your tablet?

    • yes you should, give them a call :)

  • Maybe im wrogn but you can get 4 months netflix for the cost of $15 to buy the office works dongle?

I month trial plus 3 months on the usb thingy?

    ?

    • thats the idea, pay $15 rather then $35.97. not sure if its worth the petrol and mucking around to effectingly save $20.97 for me

      • +2

Remember, this is Ozbargain! We'd do anything (almost) to save some dough!

  • signed up 2 months ago on the $90 200gb entertainment bundle
so seeing this i called today and managed to change to the big home bundle for $90, yes they are sending me a tablet and i got the 6 months netflix

they didnt mention if i would lose the extra fetch tv channels, not on the phone or in the confirmation email

note they said 6 months free netflix apparently takes 14 days for the code to be sent through

    • Good job champ. Will try the same.

  • Noob question, how do you connect to Netflix? Laptop, Chromecast, TV?

Also, we have a month by month broadband/ home phone bundle that they're not selling anymore for $70… Would that be eligible? Getting 120gb of data at the moment.

  • +2

can we buy just any old optus prepaid sim without buying a device too? Like this one for $2?

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/2-combi

    • +1

i might try it out if noone knows

      • Please do and let us know.

      • did it work?

    • +1

Optus is also giving prepaid customers a three month subscription when they purchase any prepaid phone or mobile broadband device and activate the included SIM.

      Belated No

  • +7

best to sign up for a free trial before you get the Optus deal

I already have a Netflix account with 1 month free trial, what happens when I add the Optus Netflix voucher?

If you already have a Netflix free trial you will still get to finish it before your subscription begins.
However, a new customer signing up with their Optus bonus subscription does not get the free trial.

    • So this means I can sign up to netflix right now and then add my 6 months free from optus next month when I get around to recontracting?
Sweet! I thought I was going to have to wait to try out netflix until I got around to visiting my optus store to negotiate my new contract.

  • Optus website tells me I can get ADSL at my address. Online chat tells me otherwise! I am a mere 10km from the Melbourne CBD… Pretty poor.

    • Can you get cable? Get that if it's an option. Better than ADSL.

      • No cable here, otherwise I'd jump on it. :)

    • Yay! I finally spoke with somebody at Optus who has a clue and got it all sorted. :)

  • +1

Recontracted back in December when they had the price drop. Just recontracted again to get the 6 months free Netflix. Apparently code will come through within 14 days as others have mentioned. Did all this via web chat.

  • Is anyone on here using optus to access international content like US Netflix and HBO go? This deal sounds great but on whirlpool there's reports of poor international speeds on optus connections. Anyone streaming hd with no problems during peak times? Would hate to be on 24 month contact and have to put up with congestion.

  • +1

Thanks Optus. Because of this Telstra has bumped me from 200gb a month to 500gb a month for no extra cost. Awesome. No need to switch now.

    • did they do that automatically or did you have to do something to convince them?

      • I'm not OP but I bet that calling and saying you are going to change to Optus could possibly have that effect.

        • +2

I did absolutely nothing lads. Just logged onto my telstra account and it was already done. Had no knowledge. I'm only making assumptions that its due to Optus' excellent deals just launched.

        • +1

@geo365:just checked my telstra nbn account. Same thing. 200gb up to 500gb. pretty awesome.

        • @geo365: from a crowd support thread I just read, looks like all plans under 100gb will go to 100gb, 200gb goes to 500gb, 500gb goes to 1000gb. Good on telstra for doing this. Probably would have lost a fair few customers if they didn't though. Clever to do it this way really, when you consider the other ISPs doing unmetred are for Australian netflix content only.

        • @johnno1987: Are you on a home bundle or just outright broadband? Im on a 200gb cable bundle and ours hasn't gone up. Maybe might have to wait till the next billing cycle?

  • +2

Are we able to use the free $10 optus sim deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/187260) to receive the 3 months free Netflix?

    • "Optus is also giving prepaid customers a three month subscription when they purchase any prepaid phone or mobile broadband device and activate the included SIM."

Doesn't sound likely but id give it a shot
