Just saw that there's limited stock of these, a search for laptops with similar specs on pricespy seem to show it's good for the specs - see Dell website but here's the basics:

Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T6670 (2.2GHz/2M L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
2GB (2x1GB) 800MHz Dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM Memory
160GB SATA Hard Drive
15.4" WXGA (1280x800) Anti-Glare LED Display
Windows XP Professional via downgrade from Genuine Windows Vista Business-ENG (And free upgrade to Windows 7 available)
1 Yr Next Business Day Onsite Service

Note too that it's fast track so should be in your hands in under a week, added bonus.

(For $50 more you can upgrade to 4GB RAM but without the fast delivery; with the fast track delivery the 4GB unit is $934, see http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/ap/topics/…)

    no dell, please.

    • i agree, however its not a bad deal for a 2.2ghz laptop.

I bought this laptop a few months ago. I returned it to dell soon after that. Google a bit about its freezing problem, you will not want to buy. It happens to all Vostro 1520 (maybe 1500).

Sorry, but I simply can't trust Dell.

I would rather deal with a retailer who I consider to be reputable.

  • It's getting a poor joke when you can't put a deal up without being attacked by the dell haters. This is a site for bargains - not whinges about individual companies (especially at 1.00 in the morning!!)

I've had 2 dells and have friends who have them and have not had a problem. The SMH gave it 4.5/5 stars: http://www.smh.com.au/news/digital-life/laptops/reviews/revi… ; PC world gave it 3.5/4 stars: http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/notebooks/dell/vostro_1… ; even on the dell site (from a multitude of users) it gets 3.6/5: http://reviews.dell.com/2341/2075/reviews.htm

This is a bargain: it's not expensive, it's not a lie or a misprint, and it's a product that many people want. Get off dell's (and my) case!

    • I'm not a Dell hater. But a Vostro 1520 hater.

If you read some comments, you will notice there are a few guys who mention the freezing problem with this model.

      • According to some posts on the Dell community page you linked, if you disable Intel SpeedStep it solves the problem.

I am actually considering recommending this for my brother. It's such a good deal.

        DELL Vostro 1520 (S520506AU)
        Intel Core 2 Duo P8600, 2.40GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3M L2 Cache
        15.4" WXGA LED (1280x800) Anti-Glare
        4GB (2GB x 2) 800MHz DDR2 RAM
320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with Free Fall Sensor
        8X DVD/RW Optical Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M with 256MB dedicated graphic memory
        6-cell 48 WHr Battery
        Integrated Webcam
        Bluetooth
Red Colour LCD cover, and sides. Or glossy black.
        Windows 7 Pro 32bit
Ports: 4x USB 2.0, VGA out, LAN, 8-in-1 media card reader, ExpressCard slot, FireWire (IEEE1394)
        1yr warranty, 3yr support
Bonus Dell 19" Wide Screen Monitor (E1910W)
        $1305.70 minus 10% off = $1175.13
        Minus sale of 19” monitor: ~$120 ($110-$175)
        Total: $1055
        http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=au&cs=a…

OR add Microsoft Office Basic 2007 for $203.50, which puts the price over the $1500 mark ($1509.20), making it eligible for the 20% discount instead of the 10% discount. Total price: $1207.36 (minus 19” LCD sale)
So essentially it’s $32 extra to get Microsoft Office added to the package.

Plus 7% cashback from moneyback.co. Amazing value for a ~$1000 laptop.

No-one is on your case, at least not from what I can see.

You don't have to defend Dell — it's big enough to look after its own interests.
