just booked my mother in law on some flights that correspond with the $790 ones i got a little while back. not sure if this is a good or bad thing taking my mother in law overseas though…
forgive the second comment - but something to note with the IWTF/bestjet(who they sent me to) booking process, i didn't get to do the seat selection process like i did directly through the air NZ site.
it's not going to be an issue for this flight as it was a single ticket for my mother in law, but when i booked for me and my wife, i'm a velocity gold member so they gave me some premium seats for free on some legs, ie mel-akl & return is premium economy, and gave the option to purchase extra legroom seats etc on the other legs.
just worth mentioning for anyone else curious i guess! :D

it's pre-allocated 3 of the 4 legs though, and the seats aren't too bad to be honest so should be fine (all window seats towards the front of economy
@jaybo: I find that when I get to allocate my seats on various airlines, the only rows available are those at the back. When I don't get a chance I'm put at the front. Never mind; baggage collection is the great equaliser.
@muncan: so true… so, so true. lost count of the amount of times my bag has come out almost last, still with it's little 'priority' tag stuck on it :D
with gold/platinum card they usually sit you towards the front but it's a double-edged sword, eg on the generic domestic flights, they fill the plane from the front. so if you're in row 4 you're more likely to have all 6 seats in the row in use than if you're back in row 9 (if they're going to make someone sit in a middle seat, then they make it 'less painful' by putting them towards the front)… dunno about you but i'd quite happily sit in the back row of the plane if it meant i got a spare seat next to me!

I can't find any flights for under $1000 return for Sydney to LA/Chicago/SFO or anywhere? This is for the January dates. Help!!
