Anyone hear about Ol' Dick running against Tony Abbott in his electorate for the upcoming election?

Can see the campaign promises now

"Mining tax 20% off! First 500 polluters"

"Gay couples can marry! One day only!"

"House prices, $5000 off $1 million, $10,000 off $10 million"

    • haha very funny,
      funny man are you

    • +1

      Gay couples special, BOGOF

      • +6

None of the electrical will work as they'll give you two plugs and no sockets

        • You can have 2 sockets with a screwdriver

        • Actually, men have plugs and sockets, it's the women that are all sockets :p

    • +6

I really can't see Dick Smith repurposing sales phrases from a company he sold to Woolworths 33 years ago.

    • +10

"Our new budget will benefit all Australians*"

*Excludes: People aged between 10-50yo, 51-90yo, infants, males, females, dogs, cats, apple products.

apple products? I thought they're Americans made in china

  • +22

I wish someone would buy ALL that's on the list to rid us of our misery, considering the savings of $96,744

    • +1

Hyperbole based on false pricing assumption that items aren't cheaper elsewhere .. which many are!

  • +24

+1 for "Sorry no bargains for JV"

  • +30

Isn't the title a bit too clickbaity?

    • +1

wonder how much he makes from the traffic generated by OzB. After all, there are ads displayed on that price comparison site.

  • +55

    The new OzBargain spam

  • +22

No offense, but is this ever going to end? Seems like Dick Smith is just trying to 'trip' us by putting this on sale like every 1-2 days or something

  • +8

    Lol @ the donate button

  • +10

Are we going to get a dick every day?

  • +4

Check the price on Dick Smith's eBay store before buying - some things are even cheaper on there (eg. 10m Cat 6 Network Cable - $5.44 DSE Online vs $3.57 DSE eBay).

    • If the price is the same or cheaper on their eBay store, use CashRewards and get an extra 2% cashback.
    • -3

Also remember eBay is plus $6.95 postage.

      • +3

Not if you click and collect (where available). In addition, that network cable would cost me $7.95 in postage (metro Brisbane) from the DSE online store.

        • -1

          ahh of course!

      • +1

But you can Click & Collect.

  • +60

do we need this spam? the purpose of it seems to be to drive traffic to a 3rd party site loaded with affiliate advertising

  • +2

    Good price for batteries..
    4x10 AA for 4.40

    • +2

      Click & Collect not available!

      • +1

Yeh… shipping cost more than the product itselt.

    • +1

This 10 pack was available for click and collect a few days ago for only $1.00. $0.85 after "FURTHER15" coupon.

  • Nothing for Logitech z906

  • +1

I'm not a fan of this site.
It's not useful at all in my opinion.

The price they comparing was the full price and they always comparing with this column.
I can post this site tomorrow and everything is almost the same.

  • +4

    Spam.
There are cheaper prices. Please compare each item listed to staticice before posting.
eg. GoPro Hero 4 Silver from $442 + ship

  • +1

Why does Dick never discount his balls? I have never seen these on sale.

    • They were $3.98 in Jan!

    • +1

It's hard to get your hands on Dick's balls.

    • Because Dick can go up and down but balls can't?

  • +1

bought an audio cable for $4.50 which they normally sell for $30 lol (most ebay stores sell them for around 4.50 anyway) - at least i get 1 yr warranty.

    thanks

  • Easily, the funniest heading I've ever seen on this site.

    Brilliant.

  • BELKIN Mobile Phone Air Vent Mount $14.84 , not a bad price? good review and it's $29.95 in applestore

  • -6

Cool website - i've bookmarked it and look forward to it developing

  • Are these prices in store as well?

    • +3

They do a 7 day price match - I have actually walked into a store, price matched against their online store, argued the point (on eneloops of all things) & walked out having paid the cheaper amount.

      • +4

Speaking of arguing, I was in the DS Adelaide store a few days ago. A customer wanted a specific price. The staff member called head office was told the lowest price they were willing to do. The customer kept on pushing - it really wasn't cool. The Dick Smith employee was very professional about the whole thing.
10 minutes of harassment of staff to save a few bucks is not cool, especially when the guy behind the counter was being very polite. Try and remember that shop assistants are people too.
Declaration: I worked in retail on weekends back in the late 80s. I still remember the occasional aggressive customer. One woman was so bad that it took me several hours to stop shaking. She didn't have enough money and screamed abuse at me for expecting her to have enough money to buy a discounted item.

OP's fourth "Almost everything" sale this year !!

  • +34

I have decided to coin a new OzBargain term:

    Upvote Trawling
When an OP has little or no value on it's own but requires supplementary information which is a broad net of junk which users have to decipher. Inidividually the junk wouldn't exceed more than one vote, but the method of trawling accumulates junk votes to the satisfaction of people who say 'the public LOVES these posts'.

Stop upvoting this junk and it will go away. I will assume with confidence that more than 90% of the products which are listed in the link can be sourced cheaper elsewhere. Even in the OP, kindle- cheaper elsewhere. Saying something is XX% off is a false logic when the prices are over inflated to begin with. It's a shallow analysis as the post makes absoloutely no comparison to anything else.

    • +6

Please join my campaign - http://www.stopthetrawler.net

      • +1

        Get the Greens on-board.

    • +1

      I will assume with confidence

      Never assume without it :D

  • +9

Great effort to produce these lists … but:
Dick Smith creates a new sale every day - sometimes twice - new coupons all the time.

Are these always bargains? I agree with JV … can't find really a new bargain here … we had the 10% Apple … we had the 10m Network cable … and the iPad case is on sale again.
How often do we need a new list … once a day … once a week. Do we jump as soon as DS changes the price by a cent. I prefer more curated bargains.

We don't even check anymore properly if what we post is really a bargain … it's just a sales list.

Example: The mentioned 10m Network cable was cheaper on eBay as mentioned by PrinceHairy - the LG 60inch TV is cheaper here: http://appliancecentral.com.au/shop/index.php?route=product/…

    • +5

I don't see many bargains in the posted list if any at all, just another bricks and mortar store 'sale'

    • Didn't someone post a while back that in order to have a sale/reduction off a set price, the set price had to be listed for a certain number of days before it could be discounted?

  • OP is probably working for DSE or is an employee.. And the "wasnow" site is just a front, good marketing strategy if its true..

Bit like Harvey Norman owning joyce mayne, yet they will compete with each other on pricing.

    • +1

nah, just trawling for cents per page banner view … is my 2 cents

  • +6

More and more junk, Where are the nice things that people obviously want? And again no laptops, TVs, phones or tablets least 50% off. No deal, if they want people to shop from them, they have to have the right things on sale.

I want to buy something and it says out of stock in store fair enough, so I want to click and collect via having it shipped into store to avoid shipping to my home like Officeworks, can't see the option?

  • got some energizer batteries cheap so +ve from me

    • Surely it's better to have it set out clearly like this

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/198303

than wading through screeds of non bargain data

      • +1

then i'd be reliant on people posting items i might/not be interested in when i could just control+f search what i want from the OP's page.

neg/report the OP's post then if the format bothers you so much. not sure what you want from me

  • +7

Great deal considering you only need to spend $250,302.36 to get the $96,744.17 saving…

  • OP, since you have got the database sorted, maybe from next time, you could just list the newly added products, or products from the previous exclusions, in the post?

  • +5

sorry OP but had to report this as REFERRAL SPAM

    • Yes, tend to agree

  • +2

    Kindle Paperwhite NextGen Wi-Fi 4GB $159

Maybe it's the cheapest available currently, but I bought one yesterday from a Telstra store for $149 (no haggling, that's the price from the system). That was the last one in that store hence didn't bother posting it as a deal. I would suggest checking in other stores if someone is looking for one of these. Having said that I checked in another Telstra shop (about 1Km away from where I bought it) and the price is $174 (same as their web price which was actually $149 about 3 days ago).

Another option is to check at Target, they had for $149 last week online and in store but now its out of stock online.

    • +1

Still $149 on the Telstra eBay store

      • Oh thanks :) I only checked in their website

  • +7

Do we really need this? We know DSE is famous for their frequent price changes/sales/crap. This is really just spam.

    • Don't blame the OP. Blame the lemmings who upvoted it.

      • +2

Sorry, OP is making money out of this. OP posted this… How should the OP not be blamed?

  • +7

90% of those are overpriced junk. We all know the 'Was' price means nothing in DS. I can't see much effort from OP at all, just some simple scripts crawling the DS website and dump it in a page filled with ads and without much analysis logic. We have to stop people trying to make money here in this way.

  • +4

Creating a comparison price list is not a deal… not much different compared with previous posts in last few days.

  • +1

Went to office works to price match the korjo squinchy neck travel pillow. Dick Smith didn't have any nearby for me to click and collect. Ended up $5.49 each :-)

  • A couple of listings for 300cm Lightning cables got me interested, turned out to be 30cm. :(

  • +1

    stupidity @ OzB

    • +3

Same post got 816 votes about two weeks ago. That's a lot of smart people…

  • Fujitsu Alkaline AAA 4 pack $0.99 was $6.98 click and collect available.

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/fujitsu-alkaline-batte…

  • Should we do this for every sale a store has?

    • +3

Some of these products aren't even on sale. It's a price comparison site for a store over time.
Nice idea… but not much use: "Oh crap, should have bought it last week when it was cheaper" or "Man, i bought that last week when i needed it, now it is cheaper, boohoo"

  • +6

I don't really even understand why this listing has been allowed to stay here & it hasn't been moved to the relevant forum area.

It's a straight up misleading clickbait title for the listing to start with, then it takes you to a third party website that just compares prices over time and lists a bunch of stuff not even on sale, or even remotely cheap compared to elsewhere. Most if not all the garbage listed is just a discount from a retarded RRP in the first place & offers no actual bargain or reasonable discount either.

I appreciate the effort that's gone into the site this deal links to, but this isn't worth being put up as a bargain listing, it's just a site that should be referred to in price-tracking discussions over in the forum area, IMO.

    • +2

Probably because if it generates traffic for this site they let it slide and tell people to start a thread in the forums to discuss the issue.

  • +1

    Information overload…..

  • +2

Last negative vote was removed because spam is not a good enough reason. So here: GoPro Hero 4 Silver is available way cheaper elsewhere. See staticice. $449 at Kogan.

Edit: Damn can't vote on a deal a second time.

  • +3

Waste of ozb space … referral spam

    • +1

I don't think he used referral links.

      • +4

refers people to a site laden with advertising to generate money … if you do find a bargain though please post it, otherwise i'd say its pointless to list the entire DS stock list

        • +2

Exactly! The OP just seems to be making these for the income from the ads.

  • +2

    referral style spam.
we don't need a post that is only to push people to their own site. who needs a massive list of all items Dick Smith sells - it isnt useful or a deal.
there's already a post about dick smiths sale.

GoPro Hero 4 Silver is available way cheaper elsewhere. See staticice. $449 at Kogan.

I also thought you had to link directly to the deal, this post doesn't at all, doesn't even link to the correct site.

  • I think I got permabanned from the Dicksmith site from snoo's first mega list. I keep getting "400 Bad Request. Request Header Or Cookie Too Large" when I try to load any of the Dicksmith pages. Anybody else experiencing this or know how to fix it?

    • I don't wanna hear about Dick`s large cookie.

    • Clear your history.

  • +2

upvoted first one, this is 5th time, i think this is spam now

  • wanted the eneloop pro as click collect but no stock ……. too many small items that cheaper on eBay and the good stuff isn't click collect :-(

  • +4

Legal but diplomatically a spam post

  • +1

This is starting to turn into more spam rather a deal, especially considering the lack of great deals and the use of adverts on the op website. I would rather the op focus more on the deals and mention them title instead than just stating the "mega list xxxxx items".
