Rather than waiting for $50 voucher which I may not find it useful, I used the code CTWENTY (20%off) and got $40 off straight away:)

    • Drat! Already used the CTWENTY code tonight… Voucher is decent compensation though.

  • +3

Use CTWENTY Code $160 if you don't want a voucher

    • +1

Moderators please feel free to take it off if its considered duplicate -Just saw this deal popping up and posted it straightaway.Hope someone will benefit from it..

      • +3

Thanks for posting. I didn't see the other reference.

Bought it after seeing your posted deal.
        What a great price !!

      • It's not a duplicate, just thought you saw the deal here and didn't source the the person in the comment. :)

        • +2

nope mate..I just saw it from your link otherwise i would have definitely thanked the op.cheers :-)

        • +1

          @jibupaul:

Had a feeling it would have been posted sooner or later anyway :)

        • -1

          Why neg?

      • +4

        You should keep it.
Up until today, it was listed $248 on Dick Smith eBay store and now it is $200 and down to $160. It's worth mentioning:)

  • +2

Why wouldn't you get the $50 voucher when using CTWENTY too?
Seems to go to checkout OK

    • Because then the final price is under the $200 you need to qualify for the voucher

    • +1

i think they need minimum purchase amount $200 for the voucher.. it would be a steal otherwise :-)

      • +1

What if you combine it with another purchase to take you over the 200 mark?

    • +1

T&C disqualify purchases that use vouchers. Pick one deal.

  • +2

Ahh. But the voucher doesn't change the sale price, just the amount that Paypal pays is 20% of the purchase, the invoice is still for $200.

You never know, I guess you might get a nice surprise in July!

  • i acted quickly with voucher ..should have tried my luck with the extra $10.

  • I hope this means that 3rd Gen is coming soon and they have been instructed to clear stock. Awesome phone 2nd Gen 4G is hard to come by though.

  • Tempted by my first gen Moto G isn't that old. :)

  • Would this work in the USA?

I've been reading about bands but I don't quite understand.

And I'm going on holiday there soon for 3 months and need a phone (with more power than my $25 Coles cheapie) to look at rockclimbing guidebooks :)

    • +1

Use a site like "willmyphonework.net" to see if this (or any) phone will work on a particular carrier in any country.

      • Thanks! Yeah, I hunted through that but this deal doesn't quite have enough info, ie is this phone the 2014 or the 2015 model? Is it the XT1077 or the XT1079? (for the 2015, or the 2014 has XT1063, XT1064, XT1068, XT1069)

Nonetheless I tried a bunch of variants (including a random choice of AT&T because I'd heard of them) and in general it seemed to tell me it would work on 2G and 3G, but not on 4G (unsurprisingly)… I'm just not sure if that's a critical issue!

        • +4

If you're still interested, this is the 2014 xt1068
It'll work over there. Just a question of whether you want 4g capability which of course this phone doesn't have.

        • @redcreek200: Excellent, thanks! I don't need 4g I believe? (ie it just makes data faster I think? And I rarely use data: as long as emails will come in eventually I'm happy!)

Now I need to find out if I can make another eBay account for my GF to get the various discounts/coupons again, I already used them up buying a GoPro and some HDDs :)

EDIT: Bought one! I feel a little unsure if that $50 eBay credit will actually happen: it is in the listing but then there's no mention of it in the buying process… do we have to rely that they'll just have a system that works?!

  • Can the voucher be used only once per account ??
Even though the discount was applied, my PayPal was charged $200

    • Check your funding sources in the detailed transaction. You should find there is a voucher used for part of it and your CC is only charged $160.

      • Nope. Cc charged in full for $200. Maybe because I used the ctwenty for the gopro so couldn't get the discount for this.

        • Well if that's the case perhaps complain and/or cancel the order if you don't want to spend $200. You only authorised them to charge $160. The discount should not have shown up in the last step if it had not been applied.

  • The Moto G 4G I have has an unresponsive touchscreen sometimes. Only had it for a few months.

Yes, its the older model, but dk even if they changed the screen.

The last $200 Motorola I bought was tough as nails compared.

    • +1

Mine was the 3g dual sim. its tough as nails. Still going strong.

      • Does it get laggy if you upgrade the OS to Lollipop?

  • Any known-to-be-good cases available for this phone (preferably within $50)?

    • I have the official flip case for the earlier model - works really well imo. Should be a similar case for the newer model too.

It's expensive but considering the discount on the phone well worth it.

  • Anyone know a cheaper phone with a good camera?

Only really want to spend $100 since it's for my grandma. She wants a smartphone but will only really make calls and take photos

    • +2

      Grandmas Love iPhone (personal experience)

  • +1

$160 for Moto G dual sim. Can't Complain. Thanks OP.
If i get a Voucher thats Diwali, if not happy to take $40 now rather waiting for 50 Later..(Unknown)

  • +4

Bought! Thank you. In time to replace wife's old S2.
Now to convince her using a Motorola!
Used the Ctwenty coupon as I couldnt see any purchases worth $50 to be made in July on eBay except for a case and screen protector which be sub $30 total.
…..and I think I'm trying to justify myself why I bought it for 160 not 150…LOL!

  • So if you spend another $50 in the same transaction (e.g. chromecast) , you can get both CTWENTY and the $50 voucher for next month?

edit: condition #16: Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay coupon/voucher.

  • Done, just purchased! thanks op, super bargain!

  • +1

How is this phone compared to the zenfone 5 from Kogan?

    • I was looking at the Zenfone 5 only because the Moto G 2nd gen was 269, however the Moto G 2nd gen destroys the Zenfone 5. Better build and software support, better specs, more popular in the custom rom arena and its probably going to be supported far longer than Zenfone 5. Also the zenfone 5 has massive bezels and off-screen buttons which I personally don't favor, however the choice is yours. I'm pretty sure anyone would agree with the fact that the Moto G 2nd gen is far superior phone than the zenfone 5 and at 150 its crazy!

      • +1

Thanks for pointing out that it has large community of custom rom for the Moto G 2nd gen. will keep a look out for another good deal.

  • CTWENTY doesn't seem to work anymore

    • +1

Have you been using it for other things? It has a limit of approx $100AUD I believe :)

  • ctweny didn't work for me too

  • +2

Hell yea!!, had my eye on this baby for months… finally, finally a real Android phone with ufficial firmware updates and popular in the custom rom scene for 150!!! And not a crappy Chinese horrible touch screen phone either!

    • +1

      custom rom scene

Can you say more about this? I've messed with Pendo Pad rooting before, but that was because the device was awful and needed it… isn't this a decent phone to start with?

      • +2

Yea that's one thing Moto has going for it, if you're not too bothered by custom roms, the stock experience is pretty much 99.9 percent stock Android. The reason why I care about custom rom support is because roms like CyanogenMod usually have a few tweaks here and there (like changing the battery icon etc..) that I love having, so its more of a preference rather than a requirement. There's also other benefits like custom roms based on newer source codes usually get complied months before official firmware updates are sent out, so you can play with them much earlier. The Moto G 2nd gen on its own without any modding is still an awesome phone at 200, at 150 its crazy!

        • +2

Excellent, thanks for the reply! Yeah, I bought one, hoping to improve on my $50 Tempo T815 (OK, but laggy and can't fit more than a few apps)… but hope the $50 eBay credit actually comes through come July :)

        • +2

@nuchalis: All good! Yea I'm in a similar situation, hoping (knowing!) to imoprove my $50 Huawei Y550, yup got the same problem, can only fit a few apps before running out of space and it's got a horrible touch screen!

    • And not a crappy Chinese horrible touch screen phone either!

You do know that Motorola is now Chinese right? Part of Lenovo.

      • +2

They are all assembled in China. I think he means no-name ones made for the Chinese domestic market.
Not export models from big companies like ZTE and Huawei. let alone Motorola.

        • Yup, that's 100% correct. I was referring to the no name/second grade brands which are great value for money but you still feel their compronise, the biggest of which is bad touch screens!

      • Yea I see your point, I'm aware that calling something out for being Chinese is ironic these days as everything is pretty much made in China, but the name brands do tend to have some level of quality. They are great value for money, now more than ever, but I do tend to notice their short comings, specially the touch screen. To scoring a name brand for the same price is a massive bargain in my book!

  • +1

When does the offer end? I have to wait 5 days for money to go into paypal…

    • The offer will commence at 10.00am on 10 June 2015 and end the sooner of either 25 June 2015 or once 15,000 eligible purchases have been made, eBay will notify customers on the offer homepage of http://www.ebay.com.au/rpp/Hump_Month once the voucher limit has been reached.

      • Sorry what I was trying to say was, how long will the moto g be at this price?

  • +1

Thanks OP, smashed my Nexus 4 a couple of weeks back and have been looking for a deal like this. I'm on the grandfathered, tight-arse iinet $20/month plan so only need a 3G capable phone anyhow. This should do the job for a year or two.

    • +2

You can tight your ass even more. Vaya, $18… though their service sucks ass.

      • I was on hold with iinet for 2 hours, 24 minutes and 43 seconds yesterday - did not even get through to a live person

    • +1

Not quite the same here - but I've been replacing family-held Nexus4 handsets with the Moto G2 as the old phones get broken/washed/lost.

We're down to two working Nexus4(s) and I'd already bought 3 of the Moto G2 with another bought overnight as a decent priced spare.

    • They don't look the same though, right?

The Motor G is so much clunky compared to the sleek Nexus in my opinion.

Also how do the screen quality compare? And performance…

  • Impeccable timing…been looking for a sub $250 phone!

  • is Android 5.0 or 5.1 available yet on this phone?

  • The one I bought from Officeworks a few weeks ago came with 5.0.2.

  • Can't believe I bought this phone a couple days ago. It'll be $200 after the ebay voucher, but still. Grrr.

    • +2

Buy this one and return it with the old receipt ;)

    • no it will be $150 after the ebay voucher!

      • Yeah I meant the one I bought will be $200. Cbf sending the other back and stuff. Still a good deal.

  • 5.1 is rolling out!

  • thanks, just bought one now

  • +3

So I've been watching all the threads lately with the China phones etc… and I just can't justify NOT getting this phone.

It's very similar spec-wise to them BUT:
    - Has Australian Warranty
    - Shipping direct from a reputable company (Chinese companies a bit of a hit and miss - see Gearbest discussions thread first before ordering with them).
    - Works out to be cheaper taking into account the $50 voucher
    - Branded phone so much better resell value/ ease of resell down the track
    - Official updates to Android + huge custom rom support

    Update: Purchased it!

  • Thanks OP, just bought one now!

  • 78 left.

  • Why is the deal counter going 14mins left??

    • that is just time before they add a new deal onto the list

      • That's what I thought as well. But apparently this deal has now expired. That counter started a new deal and ended thus deal. There were still 53 pcs in stock. Just got there in time to get a second one for mum on wife's ebay/pp account.

  • Darn. Thought I still had time to think overnite and they pulled the deal today. FML

  • Cheaper (in AUD) here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199169 and still available.

  • Not happy Jan.

I received my new Moto G today and I find this: http://imgur.com/3Cx4pKH . Anyone else experience this. I expected I was buying a new phone!!

    • Nope, mine was brand new.
Should take it back to DS and get it swapped or refund.

      • +4

Thanks, I returned it yesterday to my local store and got a brand new one. The store manager couldn't believe the online team would do that.

    • +2

LOL you know what they did to me? Firstly toll didn't even show up at my home, I was home all day and got the message for package being on board with driver, waited for 4 hours and suddenly details on toll website updated to: Attempted delivery, could not gain access, and just a minute later it said: Successfully delivered to toll collection point that was 2 suburbs away. Complete lie, I was on my balcony and saw no toll delivery attempt of any kind and apparently in a span of just a minute the driver traveled 2 suburbs and left it at a collection point. Anyway thats toll, I never had good luck with them, last year the toll guy tried to delivery my Xbox One to some place down the street LOL.

So I head down to the collection point, pick up my package then head home, everything's good, its got my name, address and everything on it. Once I get home and open it up… my Moto G 2nd Generation was actually 3 random Canon calculators LOL

      Picture: http://i.imgur.com/ybzW7mp.jpg

LOL man that's pretty crazy, anyway I call up DSE, girls pretty nice I tell her I got 3 calc's instead of my phone and she laughs pretty hard LOL, she's like is it possible for you to return them to a DSE store?, I'm like sure and she's like I'll notify the store of your arrival and ask them to put aside a Moto G 2nd gen for you. She was nice and as I was putting the phone down, I head her laugh pretty loud again LOL. So i'm heading to a DSE tomorrow. got a funny story to tell people now, wonder how strange it's gonna be at the DSE exchanging 3 calculators for a Moto G LOL.

      • +1

        Crazy stuff!

      • +2

Your story sure beats all :)

      • Received mine today and its a Plox Powerbox 3000mAH?

        • 3 bad orders…can we assume monkeys are doing the pick packing?

        • @ssx:

          Something dodgy going on…

  • del

  • Good news!
I bought this with the CTWENTY coupon, and still have the $50 voucher arrive today.

So check the bottom of your MyEbay summary page - it is easy to miss.

    Redemption code:C50BACK

    • Yes, I got one too! I am sooo glad that I went for CTWENTY which was $40 discount(lower) but ended up getting $50 voucher as well! I better use the voucher before they realise/change their mind:)
