  • This was listed at RRP $799.00* incl. GST on http://www.brother.com.au/products/archive_PTouch_productove… website, at $790 RRP on Pentagon, but as low as $719 at http://www.displaydecorations.com.au/Brother%20Electronic%20…

    Dell pricing?

    • Hah, no I don't believe so…
Would a Mac Premium Reseller need to stoop to using tricks from Dell's playbook?

wow good find compared to rrp but i'll stick to my portable ptouch

  • +1

Actually, it may be genuine as according to this site, the product has been superseded by http://www.aboffice.com.au/productsmain.asp?productid=PT9500…

  • Compared to RRP from the time when the 17" LCD still cost me $1400 !! :)

Very interested in this. I'll have a sleep on it and see if its genuine tomorrow with a phonecall/email.

  • Seems to be a pricing error. $79 vs. $790, someone forgot to press a single button.

Umm, it does say "You Save: $711.00 "

So it can't be a typo..

      • Yes it can. The way most online carts work (especially virtuemart) is you input the RRP, then you input the actual selling price.

Someone would have put in 790 as the RRP, and then tabbed to the sal price, put in 79 by accident.

From there the cart software automatically calculates the discount and the saving for display.

  • Hmmm… Interesting…

  • Not many of their website links work on top. ie: 'Contact us', 'About us' 'Service'
    That's a little worrying..

    CONs:

    1. Paypal checkout doesn't work.
    2. Shipping is $8.90 even if you state a pickup
    3. Online payment only through bank transfer. Beware you wont be able to get your money back if this is a scam.
    4. I got an order no of 00000XXX. This seems very weird to me.

Here's the info that shows after you have placed an order.

    Pentagon Digital
    ABN: 12 006 014 857
    546 Whitehorse Road
    Mont Albert, 3127

    ABN seems to be valid
Pentagon are genuine premium resellers of apple. According to apples site.
Google reveals no bad reputation though.

I placed my order putting no payment through as i would be picking up. COD. Just to be safe. Definately can;t be a pricing error as clearly $790 is crossed out and $79 is visible. Also is in the clearance section. And says a saving of $711

It would be nice to see is any company would price beat this.

  • Yeah PayPal doesn't work "This merchant is unable to receive payments"

In my case I chose pickup and there was no additional charge - unlike others.

    Fingers crossed.

  • This is what i get when i click on the link now

Error: Sorry, but the Product you've requested wasn't found!

Looks like it was a Pricing error.

  • Had a look at this, seemed interesting. Fairly old superseded product from 2001 or earlier. Report of labels not sticking well to non-porous surfaces. Peel off overnight.

  • I have now advised the Mods that Error: Sorry, but the Product you've requested wasn't found! = either Sold Out/Item not Available.

    • You should be able to edit this yourself - via edit button - no big deal just that its faster that way. I have made the change

      • Thanks, I promise I won't squander this new power! :+)

  • Had a quick search on the net to other office suppliers, all of which have the product discontinued and dont sell anymore. This doesnt really matter, only one thing to consider is: do you need specific blank Brother labels to fit the machine - and how long Brother will make these available for a discontinued machine? Just a thought?

    • This is still listed at: http://www.displaydecorations.com.au/Brother%20Electronic%20… albeit for $719.

That said, the description (above) states "Uses Laminated “TZ” tapes" and these were also mentioned in the provided "Product Overview" and "Brochure" links.

Whether tapes continue to be available depends on whether your stockist and supplier stock same and also whether Brother (or other manufacturers) use the Tapes specified in the "Brochure" in other models.

It is always a problem (e.g. Inkjets) that manufacturers are changing the carts etc, so one just buys a new printer or uses generic.

  • Just spoke to the guys there, they had one unit they couldn't sell for a long time at RRP and today 70 people wanted it cheap!!

I assume one lucky person got it!

They are now offering the PT2430PC labeler for $199 instead, which appears to be RRP and not such a good deal!

    • Thanks for the update.

  • That's a massive markup!

  • I've had several P-Touch printers over the years, they are always great quality, and get better with every generation. the labels are great, and stick to most surfaces, and they only really peel off when you want them to.

this bargain unit is fantastic value, even the one for $199 is very well worth the money, a shame they didn't have more — (just consider what you'd pay for an ordinary paper laser printer).

the real rub with all these label printers is the cost of consumables — most tapes are available in stationers/office supply stores for years after the units are discontinued, and you can stock up. but they are very costly — just like inkjet printer cartridges — the manufacturers make their money with the tapes. it's a great pity there's no generic versions available for them.

  • For those who missed out on this labeler, here is what I bought today:
