i think i saw a carpet protector mat for $29.97 at Costco Adelaide (membership required and no delivery). YMMV

    • bunnings is around the same
and office works has it for 35 too, and yeah no delivery!

not sure of the quality too
have seen ones which are very thin!

      • Costco one is very thick. Can't recall the price though.

      • I purchased one from Bunnings years ago. It's still good today.
I'm sure I paid less than $35 for it though.

        • Cheapest in Bunnings is $59.90 now, PVC not polycarbonate. Polycarbonate lasts longer.

        • @kampua: Must have been on sale at the time I purchased it. I'm assuming that the mat I got is PVC as it looks identical to the (expensive) $59.90 one.

    • We got a few from Costco Dockland for our office. The quality and thickness are of those at the top prices at OW. The price is under $30.

    • Yeah, the Costco ones are really thick and looks heavy duty, also they are made in USA. But only available for low pile carpets, not hard floors.

Edit: okay this one is also for carpet.

Cheaper to just put a cardboard under your chair. You can call it "Carpet Protection Cardboard"

  • +1

    Cheaper at Ikea and online.
Cardboard will not work - does not spread the load. Desk chairs damage carpet and underlay.

    • I have one of the Ikea ones, they don't survive on carpet. Mine has developed a spiderwork of cracks where the chair casters were. I stopped using it when all of the cracks started to join up. This was within a year of purchase.

I also have a much older one, can't remember where I bought it but it wasn't Ikea. That one is still going fine, zero cracks, it's so old that the clear plastic has started going yellowish-brown.

The difference between the two? The Ikea one is about 2-3mm thick, I estimate the older one to be about 6mm thick, hard to judge because it has tapered edges. The may be different plastics too, I don't know how to tell that. The Ikea one had a strong smell when unwrapped, I remember I had to keep it under the house for a week before using it.

Sorry for the misunderstanding Ozbargain! This mat is Polycarbonate not PVC… YES you will get a cheaper PVC mat however this mat is odourless therefore wont stink out your place!

Here is a link that explains the difference.

I'm not much of a mat sniffer.

      • +5

Haha you dont have to be 0xFFFF if they use plasticisers to reduce the price of the mat you will be able to smell from a mile away!!

        • +2

That is a truly valid point.
With plastics and paint cheap junk plasticisers are more than just a nuisance they can be downright toxic. Not stinking, hopefully implies less outgassing.

      • Don't underestimate the stink they can put out. I bought one from Bunnings a couple of weeks ago. My computer is in my lounge room so that's where the mat went before I even put the chair on it I noticed the stink was unbearable. I scrubbed it with cleaner, didn't help. I left it outside for a week, but when I brought it back in, still stunk. It was literally unbearable to sit in the same room with it. I googled if other people had had the same problem, and found a lot who did, saying it still stunk after months!

Had no choice but to take it back.

      • Thanks matshop. My mat just arrived. I'll get Mrs 0xFFFF to give it a sniff when I get home tonight.

  • I was just after one of these after buying the Buro metro chair from the Staples deal

I checked out the similar priced ones from officeworks/ikea but they don't seem that great, have a smell and reviews of the Ikea version all seem to say it's not worth the price and will crack soon after using

  • +3

Rep, do you have one for floorboards?

  • +2

If you look up "Polycarbonate Chair Mat" on Ebay, the cheapest is $170 at Officeworks

  • The prices of these protectors vary according to specifications. Can't compare on price alone. This is a bargain based on that.

    • +1

Received my order yesterday. I can confirm that it's a good quality protector equivalent to the ones sold at OW for about $60-$70. Hence, a good bargain at $35 delivered.

  • The matshop mat is thicker and a little bit larger then the Officeworks version, it sounds like it may be better

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Floortex-Polycarbonate-Hard-Floor…

  • I'll give it a shot. Thanks OP.

  • Giving it a crack, thanks

  • Who do you ship with? I'm interested but living in a unit it's a bit hard for me to get things from couriers and i'm not able to wait around all day. Bit of an annoyance if it had to go to a depot to get it as well :/

    Thanks

    • Mine was through Startrack…Great delivery service I think

    • What is your postcode happychild100 and I can let you know who the courier will be . we use a couple :)

      • 4000, Spring Hill

        • The courier will be direct freight. We send through the tracking number which you can monitor. The website usually gives you a timeframe for delivery on the day

        • @matshop: Hmm alright. Thanks

  • +1

I bought the bunnings one a while back and remember that the whole house stunk like plastic for weeks. Once the smell is gone its fine and after a couple of years of use its still going strong with no cracks.

With this deal, its a small premium to pay not to have the plastic smell.

  • BPA Free ?

    • +1

BPA is an endocrine disruptor, and as such is only harmful if it gets into your bloodstream. Unless you are planning to eat off it, drink through it, chew it, lick it or inject it, it's unlikely to have any effect on you.

Possibly if you have toddlers BPA could be a concern. They chew anything.

      • Yep little rugrat that loves to chew, hence the question.

Any chance we could get the code to work with your Hardfloor option?

  • yes, I just ordered one for $45 - sea shell

  • Hey there matshop What is the warranty on these? Cant see it listed on the site. Last one I got had year warranty and now at just over two years it has just started cracking under the pressure.

Edit: Just had a look and the OW one has 5 year warranty on them.

  • So I can't use this with Hardwood floor?

  • Ordered my 2 mat's on 3/9/2015 and received one today (17/9/2015)…
Web site Order Status has still not been updated from "Processing"…
I guess that that means that my second mat is on it's way (they must be still making it ;) )… lol
Sent them email at 11:40 EST today and waiting for reply (I have got fast email replies in the past).

First impressions: AWESOME mat for the price !!! Looks like it is very well Made…. :)
Large Prestige Heavy Duty Poly Propylene Door Mat with Rubber Backing 60 x 90cm

  • Great price! Ordered one =)

    • Thanks for the feedback and order :)

  • +1

    I

  • I am using a Cosco one currently but not sure what material it is. It is very thick and looks good. For others information the url to it is http://www.dimexcorp.com/Office.html

  • Ordered one too!

  • Sorry guys would this be good on tiles to stop my chair from rolling around so much? Or the Costco one maybe?

    • +1

A carpet mat should really only be used on carpet so… Probabyl not no.

  • I think its a good price. Been looking for one of these. Thanks op I have ordered one.

Cheapest I found is from Ikea.

    KOLON Floor protector $27.99

    http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/90176245/

120x100 cm bigger than matshop one..

    • +2

      "KOLON" Floor protector
LOL C'mon, who calls a product Kolon… I mean reeeeealllly!

      • +1

Look at Aldi's ice cream brand, Milfina.

    • That's the one I mention in my comment above. Failed within a year.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/211635#comment-3055029

    • I have the Ikea Kolon but it gets annoying to having to realign the mat everyday day or two since it doesnt have grips underside to hold it in place hence I decided to buy the product above since its a good price and to save me the effort.

PS: Kolon does stink and doesn't go away after a month or two of use, so keep your room ventilated to remove the chemical smell.

  • +1

Alrights ordered one, will comment on quality once I receive it.

    • Likewise!

    • Received it just a few day after ordering. Great quality, no smell, very happy = thanks OP!

    • Almost forgot to reply to this, but received very soon after ordering (took around 4~ business days) and so far so good. No smells and no issues with it yet.

  • I recently wanted to buy these protection mats to protect my tiles as my Gregory office chair is sagging and scraping, but remembered that I had heaps of square carpet pieces in my garage, so now I've got 4 pieces under my chair, does the job.

I also wanted to buy a laptop cooler as it kept shutting itself down from overheating, after googling and youtubing, I found an alternative solution, using air compressor to push the dirt out, now it's dropped from 78C average to 45C average. I am a true ozbargainer.

  • Hi Rep, I tried to order the Hard floor one from your link - http://www.matshop.com.au/large-clear-budget-pvc-chair-mat-f…

However, I can't get the free shipping option to come up with the code. Is free shipping not available with the hard floor option?

  • OP, I noticed your polycarbonate mats for hard floors have sold out. Getting any more in soon?

  • Hello mastablasta, we will not be stocking the polycarbonate hardfloor chairmats again , however you can find a PVC hardfloor chairmat here - http://www.matshop.com.au/large-clear-budget-pvc-chair-mat-f…

    • Damn. I actually grabbed the last of the polycarbonate ones, and my fiancee was wanting the same as both would end up in the study.

I see you've got a heavy duty pvc one for $69, and in the overview it says 'toxic plasticisers are not used' resulting in a not so strong odour. Are you able to make a comment on that vs the product you have linked?

  • EDIT: Reply to OP above.

  • I just checked my carpet and underlay thickness which is about 18mm. It doesn't look like this product suits. If I used this product would it just crack given my carpet thickness?
Do you have a discount option for thicker carpet also OP?

  • Hello Razdryno. No unfortunately this mat would not be suitable. The mat that would suit that level of carpet and underlay can be found here - http://www.matshop.com.au/floor-protection-mats/chair-mats-f…
You can use the ozbargain code to receive FREE shipping. Cheers

  • Hi OP, are you able to do free shipping on this item? http://www.matshop.com.au/heavy-duty-chair-mat-for-hard-floo…

The code doesn't work for it.

    • Hello mastablasta, the code only works for specified mats. I can email an invoice with FREE shipping for this item if you would like to drop me a line- [email protected]

      • Thank you, email sent.
