Telstra 4GX Buzz down to $79 (Was $99) @ Telstra Online and In-Store

251

Telstra's budget phone with 4G has just received a price cut down to $79 from $99. This is a great phone to have because it supports 4GX and has a very affordable price tag. It's also good to use as a modem/hotspot. You can buy the phone directly from Telstra for $79 here: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/tel… or (some) stores will match this deal (the Telstra Unley Store matched this deal for me today). Not sure when this deal will end so best to get in quick!

  • This deal is available at all Telstra stores and is advertised in the current catalogue and is valid until December 25th! I have to say its not a bad phone for the price point.

Yeah it looks like a good bet for those looking for a cheap, capable phone. And full telstra 4G speed even.

Now to buy an iPhone 6S 16gb or 13 of these with change…

How come when you select 'white' it still shows a 'black' one?

    • it shows a white one when i select white.

      • Mine just switches the screen from blue to orange background…

        • look at the other pictures the front stays black only the sides and back change.

        • @holden93:

I'm referring to the picture of the front

Does the white one have a black front screen ?

        • @jv: the front stays black as i said above.

        • @holden93:

so why do they call it white?

the back gets covered by your phone cover anyway…

        • @jv: Cause the back/sides are where the color changes.

        • +1

          @holden93:

          I guess that's why they're so cheap then…

        • @jv: It's still white… The Nexus 4/5 do the same thing, so do the Xperia Z/Z1/Z2, and a lot of people (myself included), don't use a phone case and still appreciate the different coloured back so…

    Whirlpool discussion

It's apparently a ZTE Blade Q Lux. "The Australian one has a Qualcomm chipset and overseas it is MTK based."

"Still a good step up from the Y550 with 4GX, the extra storage & Lollipop etc."

"Minimal bloatware (Just a Telstra bookmark and the usual Google/Android apps)."

    "Wish these was a Vodafone version. It's missing 3G 900mhz and 3G 850mhz."

    Unlocking on eBay
    etc

    Sounds good :-)

    • +1

It does have 3G 850MHz…which means it is perfectly fine for Voda as well. If it didn't have 3G-850, it wouldn't be able to work on NextG.

It lacks 4G 2300 and 3G 900 so not really useful on Optus outside of the metro areas…

  • What version of Android does this run?

    • Posted that just above
      Operating System: Android Lollipop 5.0.2

      • Thank you.
        That's pretty good.

  • Can this be used as wifi storage (to access files on the microsd card), without a data connection? (Ie. To play files off microsd card on iPad)

This is more of an android question, i guess…I don't have any android devices.

    • Some apps may allow that…most phones don't have this functionality natively though.

  • -2

How much RAM does it have?

    • -3

The black one, or the white one?

      • They have the same specs, the only thing that is different is the back cover.

    • I get down-voted and still don't get an answer?

      Does it matter jv?

      • The answer was already given above.

    • +1

1GB of DDR3. (http://www.ztemobiles.com.au/feature_Blade_QLux.htm under "Awesome power on the Telstra 4GX Network")

  • +2

Can this run with Aldi, or require unlocking?

    • Aldi is on the telstra network so I would say yes

      • Aldi is on the Telstra Wholesale network. Not the full retail network.
So SIMs from Aldi, Telechoice and other Telstra Wholesale carriers won't work in a Telstra locked phone.

    • +1

      no

rarely do you see an android 5 phone with this amount of 4G support for under $300. I have been eyeing off these phones to replace my sons Y550 because the Huawei will never see android 5 and this phone has it already, and the sought after 4G bands.
im sure people will compare to those Chinese phones but they won't get the 4G coverage at this price.
We always use our phones for tethering because we use tablets for content consumption.

  • I'm still confused about this 4GX network and 4g 700(band 28). If a phone supports 4g 700(band 28), does it mean that it will support Telstra 4GX?

  • I have a ZTE MF60 on Telstra Next G.
Is 4GX the same speed or faster?

    • Yes 4GX has far better speeds than Next G. Just make sure it is in your area though or you will just be using your same old 3G signal.

  • is this pretty much the telstra version of the ZTE Fit 4G Smart that runs on optus?

    • Very similar, but the Buzz has Lollipop and the Fit is stuck on KitKat.

  • Works with Aldi sim?

      • So if it is unlocked it will work with Aldi sim then?njusy want to make sure before buying one for me dad

        • Unlocked yes.

You may/may not get 4G though.

        • @Frig: great, that makes it better than the Fit i returned earlier as that one i was told even after unlocked still will not work with Aldi sim. will get him of this one and get it unlocked then

  • What category is this phone 4, 6, 9?

What WiFi connection speed when tethering to this phone?

If I could get 150 mps down, wouldn't want the WiFi to be the limiting factor when tethered to a laptop.

  • Good deal op

  • Is this considered the cheapest Android currently on the market ?

    • Not the cheapest. But is good at the price.

      Cheaper… Optus Fit Smart @Coles is $49.50.

      • read for somewhere that with the Fit even after unlocked still will not work with the Aldi/Telstra Wholesale carriers

        • It does work for sure. It takes my Telstra SIM without issue (I've tried Optus, Voda and Telstra all 3 of them).

What you've read is more likely the fact that the Fit lacks support for 3G-850 (aka "NextG"). What that means is unless you're in areas where there's coverage from the 2100MHz 3G frequency (which for Telstra is now very few inner metro areas), it won't have coverage. Aldi Mobile is restricted to 3G, and without access to NextG (3G-850), it's borderline useless on Telstra.

TL,DR: It won't reject the SIM once unlocked, but lacks the support for the network frequencies non-4G customers on Telstra or its resellers need.

  • am I able to buy this phone and then use it for a Telstra BYO plan i.e. the one listed in this deal here?

    • Certainly. It is compatible with the frequencies Telstra uses, so should work without a hitch.

  • Anyone found an unlock price yet?

Got this on the weekend and I am seriously impressed, especially for $79. Clean Lollipop, great battery life (went from 100% to 93% after one hour of talking). Only drawbacks? No 5GHz WiFi, can't seem to find a way to root it, not many ROMs developed for it.

But, speed is great on 4G, although not sure when I'm using 4GX as it doesn't really specify.

    • +2

Even cheaper this coming weekend at Big W for $71.10 less another 5% off with gift card so $67.55 normally $99 plus 5GB bonus data.

      • I can't find it on BigW's website. I want to make sure it's available at my local store.

        • I called my local store in regional Qld and they have plenty.

        • Just picked one up from BigW Menai - scanned at $63

  • +1

Cheaper at most Dick Smith Electronics stores. Currently $63 and can be combined with 10% off code (valid until the end of today).

    • Great price!

    • edit: code did not work as the blade Q requires a 16 digit code

  • Now even better deal at Telstra online
$63.20 with free Monster DNA on-ear headphones
    (Glad I waited, now bought.)

  • I noticed it has 5GB bonus data activation, can you sell that? i dont need it.

    • You can sell it, whether or not anyone will buy it is a another story.

  • I'm planning to buy a media player (mp3) to plug in my sound system (amplifier) . Is this phone a good alternative?
