    cheap for telstra data

i feel blessed with your upvote ec! you have saved me quite a bit with your deals!

      • +2

I always upvote a good deal. This is an excellent deal :).

        • I'm afraid this isn't such a good deal. I gather from the discussion below that these are just left over SIMs when the shop sold the handset separately. Hence, they don't have any credit and the 5gb data is just a bonus from Telstra that you can get with their prepaid SIM on the Freedom plus.

      • How to cm2u data?

@ahly92: Is it a 30 day expiry on both SIMs?

  • +1

So could recharge and roll over data?

    • +1

no data rollover doesnt work as far as i know

      • If this is a data sim then the data should rollover

        • doesn't appear to be a data sim though…

  • +1

    Not night time only ?

    • You get 5.05GB data as bonus to use any time

    • -1

so if you activate a $30 sim , you get 1.3Gb data + 1.3gb bonus data to use between 8pm-8am (night time data)

This gives you 5gb anytime data

      • +1

If you activate a $30 sim as data only you get 3GB.

        • -3

You get more than that with $30 credit and me2u ;)

        • @samehada: please explain

        • -1

@samehada: Can you me2u with a data SIM? I thought there was no "funny money" associated with a data SIM.

        • @unity1: I think we'd better not discuss about it anymore since I am haven't fully tested it.

      • so if you activate a $30 sim , you get 1.3Gb data + 1.3gb bonus data to use between 8pm-8am (night time data)

This gives you 5gb anytime data

$30 sim also gives 5gb anytime

  • im assuming these are from the telstra wifi/dongles?

  • 5GB use in one month only ?

  • +2

Thanks, going away for Christmas and this will work perfectly.

    • +2

itll work in OZ only :)

Some say Queensland is a country on it's own, but apparently Telstra coverage there is just fine ;)

        • +1

          Apparently Queensland welcomes foreign investment

    • xmas holidays down the vic coast excellent 4G speeds great find for kids iPad over xmas holidays

  • what does 'The sim card does not have any main credit.' mean?

    • +3

When you recharge with Telstra, you get 'main credit' and 'funny money' (this applies for regular prepaid plans, not really for data cards). Funny money is the stuff that is used first for calls and text, and can't be used to buy anything else. 'Main credit' can be used to buy data packs, sms packs, and even be used on Google Play to buy apps.

    • +9

      confused? That was Telstra's intention

  • Can you put this inside one of those vodafone pocket wifi units?

    • If it's unlocked and has the right bands.

  • The 5Gb bonus only applies to people on Freedom Plus before the 10th of November. A $10 price for $30 credit is always welcome, but until the 5Gb bit is taken off - or someone can show me I am wrong about the 10th of November cutoff - I am negging the deal.

    • Didn't read that in the post, did read it in your comment as I checked them all while on the last PayPal page before confirmation.

      Thank you nicois.

Edit: Glad to see how it turned out. Your caution is still appreciated, it's a good habit!

    • +1

Yes, there was mention of the bonus 5GB only applying to exiting customers (on Freedom + before the 10th Nov) however this page does say "5GB for new services" in the top banner: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/pre…

    • +1

"Plus activate a Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile or $30 Telstra Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit on Telstra Pre-Paid Freedom Plus by 25th January 2016 and you’ll receive an extra 5GB data to get you started."

      https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

      • I have an unused prepaid mobile sim from 6 months ago that came with a Telstra phone (I think it only has $10 credit as it was just a $89 prepaid Galaxy Trend Plus). Do you know if I can get 5gb of data without having to spend any more money, or do I need to recharge with $30 or something.

        • No additional spend required.

        • @sween64:

Sweet sween64, thanks $1M. Just activated one, and I have 2 more lying around. Its just sitting at $0 credit and no data right now, guess I need to wait the "up to 48 hours" to see the 5Gb added?

        • @affable:

Yeah. I'm surprised it doesn't come with $10 Standard Credit.

    • OK the link does show 5Gb applies, so I have cancelled my negative.

    • What is the 5GB Data Bonus and when will I receive it?

As a special bonus this Christmas, we’re giving our Telstra Pre-Paid Freedom Plus customers 5GB Bonus Data to enjoy on Australia’s best mobile network. You’ll get this once off bonus only on your next $30+ recharge on Freedom Plus between 10 November and 31 December 2015.

This offer is available to all existing Freedom Plus customers who activated or switched to the offer before 10 November.

The bonus will be applied to your service number up to 48 hours after you recharge, is all for use in Australia within 28 days and does not roll over.

  • +1

Won't you also receive $30 to spend on Play Store if you activate this on Freedom Plus?

    • nope

      • But "Plus activate a Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile or $30 Telstra Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit on Telstra Pre-Paid Freedom Plus by 25th January 2016 and you’ll receive an extra 5GB data to get you started.""

        You need to activate $30…?

        • -1

          no :)

  • +1

Well, gonna order em anyway… if it doesn't work, can just raise a Paypal item not as described claim. :P

  • +1

Ok, the big dumb guy just walked in…………….

So if I buy the sim and activate it, I have 5gb on the Telstra network? thats it?

    • +4

      You got it big guy

    • And 30 days to use it

      • +1

        28days actually :)

      • +1

….Yeh, I can skype then family at christmas

  • +2

so what special about these sims? How come you get no credit but got 5gb bonus? Will any $2 sim does the same trick (you can activate on Freedom plus but no credit).

  • Cheers, Ordered

  • Was the main post edited? I swear before it just said 5GB SIM.

Now it appears the SIM has no value, you have to sign up to a $30 prepaid recharge to get 5GB?

    • hey mate, you get 5gb data when you activate the sim on Telstra Pre-Paid Freedom Plus. You dont need to recharge $30

      • +1

really confusing, so just to be clear

buy it, activate it and u get 5gd data or is there a cost op top to activeate on Telstra freedom plus?

        • I THINK it's a $30 prepaid starter pack, basically (which is what I've normally used, hence why the "signup to this plan => but it comes with no credit, so how would that work?")

        • Really confusing. What is the relevance of activate on Telstra Prepaid Freedom Plus? Is this Data SIM all that's required or do you need to have another Telstra SIM for this to work?

        • buy it, activate it and u get 5gb data

          this :)

  • When will this be shipped? Is there any chance it would arrive before Friday?

    • hey mate, no you wont receive it by Friday. Well try our best to ship out orders by Fri-Sat

      • Ordered anyway, but thanks for the honesty!

  • erroorfree, I have two questions:

    1) Since this is data-only, would it work in my iPad?
    2) Regarding iPad, can I order this SIM card in a Nano SIM version?

    Thanks for posting, anyway.

    • sorry mate, the chip is oversized and cant be chopped into a nano.

      • Is this a $2 sim? Has anyone tried one to see if a $2 one would work?

        • Don't think so. This link says it excludes $2 SIM Kits

      • Now I know from where to buy oversized chips.

  • Hi error free, sorry if I missed info in your description, would like to know if the SIMcard comes in a full-size only or one of those full/ micro size, 2-in-1 ?
Also, assuming it will work in my Telstra Elite WiFi thingy?
    Cheery

    • not 2 in 1. You can choose a micro sim when you add to card and well chop it and turn it into a micro

  • So i am heading away mid dec to mid Jan. Could i purchase 10 of these and have 50Gb data on one of the freedom plus sims (which i don't currently own). Just buy the sim and put in some kind of dongle?

    • No. You could have 10 SIMs with 5GB each.

  • +1

Sorry rep, but this is much better. 7.6 gig of data, as well as plenty of call credit and $30 to spend on google play. Just have to get a $30 sim starter kit

    • Can confirm you do get 7.6GB for a $30 starter sim. I activated my $30 sim on the 10 Nov, which I bought for $10 in Coles a couple of weeks ago.

    • +1

Exactly, I don't know why ppl upvote this. We all know where these SIMs are from …

      • +3

        I don't?

      • Why dont you let us all know?

        • +9

Of course it comes from prepaid handset, you can get these SIM on ebay and activate it with Freedom Plus offer and get the 5GB. But it is better to buy the Starter Pack for $15, you will get 7.6GB + 700 minutes + $30. This is not a cheap deal at all.

$5 maybe I will consider, these are left over when the shop sold the handset separately, so $10 is a great profit margin there. Usually they will just try to sell these SIMs cheaply.

@OP:This is not truely a deal at all, I think you are asking a bit much considering the 1/2 price Telstra offer on Full starter kit. You are taking advantage of the Telstra Bonus 5GB to ask for high price on these SIMs which most of ozbargainers won't understand the real fact behind hence the upvote of this post.

          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/pre…

    • the way i read it is that it is only a once-off 5GB bonus of data (for one month). so 7.6gb for 1st month, then 2.6 every other month, no?

      • Correct.

  • Cool so I can simply have this working for my iPhone 5 and 6 plus? I really need data here.

And can the data be transferred to a existing Telstra sim account?

Or maybe take it to a Telstra store and have it swapped over? In previous threads people have mentioned they do this since these cards do belong to Telstra in the first place.

  • Lots of conflicting information up there. My question goes to those in the future who bought and are using it: is it an unconditional 5GB or not.

    • yes: activate by 25th jan => receive 5gb data to use anytime within 28days :)

    • updated

    $9.90: 5gb data + $0 credit

    $15: 7.6gb data + $30 credit

    misleading store rep :(
