Hozelock Retractable Hose 30m - $89.10 (Original Price $249) @ Masters

470
DIYDAYS

I missed out the first time they marked these down to $49 (?) a couple months back and seeing their catalog last week for the 20m host at $99. I knew i'd miss out due to other commitments on the weekends and work. I was checking their store hoping there would be some left close by to me and found this. Seems like their doing the good thing and selling the 30m ones at the same price. Already did my click and collect order so get in fast.

Original price was $249, now available for $99 with a further 10% off with DIYDAYS coupon code, original coupon post.

It's $50 too expansive. Should I wait for next special at $49 ?

    • +7

Would you prefer a smaller version then? 30M too expansive for you?

There was never a $49 special. There was a $59 special on the smaller lower end 25m model about 1 year ago.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174486

      • lower end model?

        • there are 3 models sold at Masters: the 2490, 2590 and 2595
This one is the 2590 model in 30m, the 2595 is the 4om model
The 2490 was sold last year in the 25m model

        • @HunterOfBargains20:

The difference is in the physical size as the 30m reel requires more space.

I think that's where all the complaints came from as the 25m shell was meant for the 20m which resulted in it being over stuffed and unable to reel in when full of water.

  • No stock it appears..

It's where they pretend it's the same quality as Hoselink

  • Some very average reviews of these on product review. Can anyone recommend another brand that will stand the test of time but is still well priced?

    • +1

Ive had a 10 and 20m one for 5 years now and still going strong!

    • Aslong as you take care of it! I went through a few of these only lasted a few years for me, but I hear it can last people a lifetime. Make sure you clean it from mud or dirt when it retracts back. Don't leave it out exposed in the sun when you don't need it.
Everything will lose its durability when left in the sun.

      • So how do you protect it from sun? Cover with a tarp or something when not in use? :)

        • +1

If out in the sun disconnect it and move it to shady area. Retract it and cover it. May be a hassle. But can save u from buying another. But some people would prefer buying another, maintenance is for me, and that's what I prefer.

        • @mung12:

If possible, prefer to protect it where it is. Moving it around kinda detracts me buying it in the first place. IE. so I dont have the cart around wheels of water hose like now.. :)

    • As others have said, you need to take care of them. They're like any retractable reels (compressor air hose, water, etc) But after saying that I bought a 20m about 5 years ago for my mum, and it's still working. She doesn't use it much though, but the mechanism is really smooth and reliable.

I bought a 20m last xmas from masters (for $170) and it seems to be completely different from the one I previously got. I suspect they're using cheaper material and changed the mechanism. It also leaks a bit which I need to fix these holidays. I have nothing to base assumptions on but my personal experience with the older model. I should open up both and compare.

I did just order the 30m for my partners father for xmas! For $90 it's pretty good. If it's the same quality as the new 20m it's still better than anything else you can get at that price.

2 year warranty and extended to 5 if you register product online.

  • I heard bad reviews about this one, was at masters the other week and saw 2 being returned I know there is hoselink bit not sure on the quality, they seem to have probkems with the reel not winding the hose back properly usually last about a year

    • I have a hozelink reel, it is about 8YO. No problems with retracting, but sometimes have problems locking it at certain lengths. I find I have more luck if you turn on the water after you have the hoze locked.

  • Yeah I have a cheaper one that Repco did. Initially ok. Got one for the father in law and his lasted only 6 months and now mine is on the way out so cautious about going too cheap again.

  • +2

Mine is still kicking on. Nothing wrong and absolutely loving it. Got it with the last special.

  • +2

I purchased three during the last deal. All still going strong.

Yeah, I bought 2 last deal and both are fine. Good hose;)

  • Thinking should I give this a try (in a true OZbargainer way) for $49 delivered (it is 10m, good enough for people like me with a backyard not too big).

or pay a bit more and buy peace of mind for $89

    • well, just saw this
      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/hozelock-auto-reel.html
so on average Hozelock one lasts for about a year

      • +2

so on average Hozelock one lasts for about a year

What a ridiculous summation to make over one review on productwhinge.com.au.

Hozelock make top quality products in the UK that last for ages, I have multiple hozelock units (10 and 20m) that are over 13 years old and still operate like new.

  • was going to give this a go, despite rubbish reviews, but looks like it's OOS? Hmm… might have saved me some grief :P

  • OOS for me as well

  • Out of stock ????? Damnnnn..

  • I ordered 1 last night and just got a call to say they're out of stock :( Website said they had stock at my closets store. People must have rushed in and got them before staff could get my online order.

  • How is this compared to Hoselink version?

  • Where's the bunnings competition… No masters close by here… :/

  • What about this one:
    https://www.masters.com.au/product/101619048/hozelock-compac…
Is it better if you want to move it from one tap in the back to front? A little dearer, but seems like a normal price.

    Ordered, click and collect-Upper Coomera.

      Picked up today; no problem.
There was a pile of them at the click and collect counter!
I was a little surprised at how heavy it is.
It's going to need heavy duty fixing.

  • +1

The 20m is available in a number of stores. I know it isn't as good a deal, but still not bad, if you don't need the extra length.

  • +1

Well just an update. I received a SMS and email telling me that my order was ready to collect early this morning and dropped by after work. Everything was fine, its still in the box and i wont be able to install it until the weekend. So cant comment on the quality. Glad i spotted this before everyone else. I would have been waiting another year.

  • Out of Stock in SA

  • Thanks, got a 20m only have 15m hoses at the moment anyway.

  • Pretty sure these are poor quality, Pope is the brand you want.

    • Hozelock was rated #1 by Choice magazine for Retractable Hose Reels. This was compared to brands like Pope, Hoselink, Holman and Gerdena. This was in 2011 but I doubt much has changed since then.

    • Some Pope fittings are very good, but not sure about their hoses.

  • Price has reverted to standard price of $249
