  • Terrific! Very yummy burgers from what I have heard.

    Thanks OP!

  • Hell yeah, gonna be using these something fierce…

  • Works in QLD (Used @ Robina, Gold Coast Grill)

    • thnx for the confirm. :)

    • I used it successfully at Robina tonight however had to answer a few questions on where it was from ect. They didnt fight the validity hard just seemed puzzled as they hadnt seen it before.

  • you we just print voucher in black and white?

    • +3

doesn't work at Degraves Street, saw someone get rejected…

  • no takers for the Connect HIV and sexual health down the bottom left corner of the add from the uni mag?

that is an awesome deal to, especially for those with crabs….

        crab burgers woohoo

  • +1

    I don't think much of Grill'd

    • -1

right…. so what burger franchise do you think highly of?

      • +2

i think his point was he has a low attention span…

      • me likes Lord of the fries :D

  • Nice! I love their burgers :P

  • can anyone confirm this? i heard from someone that it needs to be an actual cut out from the magazine.

  • +3

Grill'd at Degraves Street (Melbourne) did not accept print-outs. They said it had to be the original cut-out.

    • +1

+1 confirmed. same store, 5 minutes ago.

change the title and say print outs not accepted.

    • It appears that anyone can use it at any store in Australia (thnx to those who confirmed!). I think a decent colour print, with just the offer cut-out is likely to work (I used it myself and it worked). B&W cut-out may work too….they probably dont like blantant A4 print out (is this what you did?).

Depends on who is serving you, and whether they've received a lot of these coupons previously (should work well at grill'd in Melb city). Otherwise…there's no harm in trying. :)

    • +1

Theoretically, they should not be able to reject the print out version as the paper the ad appear in also has an online edition. Maybe someone can challenge them with that.

      • yeah i was thinking that as well… maybe print it directly from the online add with those other things on it too.

  • +3

going to print page 15 and 16 back to back then cut it out, see how that works

    • let us know how you go…

  • +1

Here is page 15 and page 16 merged so you can easily print it double sided if you have a printer capable of it. (I do at work :D)

    http://rapidshare.com/files/354506579/merge.pdf

I'll be trying at the grilld in chermside brisbane, hope it works.

    • Can you please let me know if it works at the chermside store, as i'm also interested in using it there.

      • If anyone is interested I can confirm that this works at the chermside store. Mine was just a B&W print out on A4 paper, not even cut out. Great value!

      • +1

I also just ate at chermside and they accepted it. I had a colour printout with the back. Will be going again for sure =D

  • +1

Works at Clarendon St (Melbourne). They accepted a range of non-cut to cut. They had a whole stack of them too from other customers.

    • thnx for the feedback.

  • +1

Page 15 is (missing) no longer hosted on magazine server.

    • corrected, with alternate link. Id recommend using the merged if you are going to print double sided. Otherwise the ozbargain link straight to the offer should be fine. :)

  • +1

Worked at QV today, with a simple black and white printout. Minew as folded and he didn't even look at it. Plenty of people in line.

Downside is the half hour wait for your burgers.

    • yeah that does happen sometimes. But its worth the wait. mmmm :)

  • Grill'd on Glenferrie near Swinburne doesn't accept printout even the colour one. Only the original will be accepted.

    • +2

      thanks for the warning… i won't bother then… I guess they lose another sale…

      • -4

wait! dont you mean they dont lose anything? as by accepting your voucher they would actually be losing money in giving you a discount that was not meant for you?

        • Yeah but I think jv meant that he won't go to Grill'd without this voucher hence Grill'd losing his business.

        • how are they losing money ???

Their profit margin is way more than 100% of their costs, otherwise they wouldn't be in the fast food business…

  • +1

If anyone is having any problems redeeming their coupon, try my back and front.

I don't see how anyone could reject these as they look like the real thing if you print/cut it properly.

    http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/4663/frontvz.png
    http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/1255/backf.png

      • Stupid argument IMO. They aren't selling the coupons, so there should be no problem on the amount of people who redeem them, even if they aren't the original. The coupon doesn't say it can't be duplicated.

Sounds like your bullshitting anyway, if all stores knew about the fake coupons then why have so many ozbargainers used them successfully tonight?

      • +2

A company makes a coupon to promote further business to their stores. Why are you acting as if people here are trying to rob them? It does say "Valid at any Grill'd" so I don't see how any of your points are valid mr "lol your funny".

        PS: Nice spelling of "you're"

      • .

  • Does not work at chapel st prahran vic…

  • +1 to the OP for posting this.
Got a similar Grill'd coupon in the mail and never thought to share it with the OzBargain community.

-1 for the fact that it may not work.

Re: Uni Times Voucher Offer: Some people have been able to download, scan, manipulate and distribute the voucher but unfortunately these electronic copies are invalid. Sorry for the novel, but we thought you should know the full story!

I gotta say I love seeing this Grill’d promotion fail. The genius in Grill’d (or their marketing company) who chose to place this ad/coupon in a student magazine either failed to appreciate that the magazine has also got a perfectly legitimate online edition, or they were too incompetent to ensure that the wording of the coupon made it clear that only coupons from the printed edition of the magazine (and not from the online edition) would be accepted.

I gotta say that what I love even more is that one of the postings above, posted in defense of Grill’d (and against cheap customers), posted by user “lol your funny” happens to come from a user that just joined OzBargain on the day he posted his diatribe. Funny also that his posting contains information that would not be available to someone just working for a Grill’d store. Surely employees in a store would only be told to reject coupons that do not come from the printed edition of the magazine, but they would not have been given the full analysis that “ALL Grill’d stores Australia wide are now aware of the cheap copys”.

Dear Moderator, it seems that “lol your funny” is not a bona fide OzBargainer but more likely a Grill’d shill, who is happy to insult potential customers by calling them cheap, scam artists (“trying to scam a free burger” etc etc).

I personally liked Grill’d until one day some time ago I was holding my “Mighty Melbourne” in a Grill’d store and I suddenly realized that the burger was much smaller than it used to be. “Mighty Melbourne” was not so mighty anymore…

Needless to say, that time was the last time I visited Grill’d. As a consumer, I do not like to be scammed…

Surely I am not the only one to come to the realization that Grill’d burgers have shrunk over the last couple of years, while the prices have certainly not shrunk?

Anyway, good (better) luck with your next promotion, Grill’d

    • +8

Yup, they're now playing the blame game and claiming they never knew that Utimes has an electronic version of their publication and that it was put up "without their knowledge". Like you said, some genius in their marketing team clearly hasn't done any research on the publication they were intending to advertise in.

That's entirely their own fault for overlooking that. They should also have clearly stated that only original and not printed copies were acceptable. They didn't and they should be honouring this deal.

And how very rude of them to say that the customers have "manipulated the coupon". Again, it is their own fault for not knowing about the electronic version - which was where we got it from. They were not manipulated in any way.

      Poor form, Grill'd.

  • the ozbargain effect :)

  • +8

Firstly, I got a copy of the Utimes magazine and thought to investigate their online edition to help people who might not have access to the magazine. NOWHERE did it state that a print out would not be accepted. Utimes is a FREE magazine that people can pick up, i didnt see the issue with people printing out a coupon from a free magazine.

However, more people obtained the coupon than intended and Grill'd pulled the plug. Fair enough, but their response is inadequate.

"We know a lot of our loyal Grill’d fans have been innocently mislead on this one"

Misled…are u serious? We bothered to read the T&Cs. If Grill'd had any credibility they would acknowledge their inability to write them. Dont try to blame us for your mistake. GROW UP GRILL'D!

PS. To all those who got a free burger, I hope you enjoyed it. Il be on the lookout for more T&Cs to exploit. :)

  • I still plan to try and use the coupon again. I have a feeling I will get away with it :-)

I won't do it for a few weeks though.

  • +2

Pathetic response from Grill'd. They won't be having my business.

  • I used THREE of thes bad boys (B&W copies) at CHERMSIDE, QLD last night. Cheers for the upload!!

    • I also used a B&W copy at the chermside store last night. I must have been the first one because the guy looked puzzled and asked where I got it from.

However it will be interesting to see if they continue to accept them now.

If you (or anyone else) try it again at the chermside store, let us know the outcome.

    • +1

That doesn't seem fair, you made a mistake because you didn't know there was an online edition.

Why don't you just let the offer run until it expires in march?

It clearly has no restrictions on the coupon, how can you change your mind now?

Don't worry, I made a realistic copy of it when i gave it to grilld, I bet i can do it again and the 15-18 year olds there won't care :D

I love your baa baa burger by the way.

    • +4

Stop insulting us by claiming we "scanned, manipulated and distributed" the voucher via email!

  • Grill burger is stupid, for rejecting loosing business and reputation, u think 2 for one they are not making money?
they are still making profile even at 2 for 1 deal , plus the extra traffic they will be getting from this site. Honestly printing in this exclusive magazine how many people will be reading it to spot it?
the marketing department should be fired if i was the managing director

well i have 15 staff at my work place was going to have it for lunch guess they dont want the business

    • I'm not defending them but with a company like Grill'd that is going through massive expansion across Australia, they probably need to have a set budget with each marketing campaign. It seems that by accepting the online offer all over Australia, they will probably go way over budget and this possibly could effect their business. Remember, this isn't McDonalds or some multinational with billions to cover a stuffed up marketing campaign.

Here's hoping now that we have a Grilld Rep on board we can get some official Ozbargain burger deals ;)

      • I'm willing to forgive grilld if we get some ozbargain burger deals ;)

Grilld is not a small company, they should have no problems honoring this coupon for a month.

      • yeah what they did is ok. Most businesses in that situation would do the same thing.

What im questioning is the legality of rejecting the online coupon. Ignorance (of online magazine) is NOT an excuse. I dont see them getting a fine, or reimbursing customers this time. But they'll get told to improve their T&Cs.

Watch out for more than one line of T&Cs next time Grill'd run an offer. But with the immense publicity they've already got, they might not need to do promotions again this year. :P

I second that notion of a Grill'd rep. In terms of marketing, us ozbargainers have been pulling the weight of the Grill'd marketing team. :)

Official response. Feel free to leave your comments there..

    • +1

      Heh, love this one:

it's okay guys, the accc is investigating, anyone who got declined the online voucher will be able to be reimbursed the second burger they were charged for. Just take your voucher back in with your receipt, get a staff member to sign it and you will be paid back for the lower priced burger.

I'm sure the ACCC have got their burger crisis team on the job.

      • If it's from Grill'd's website, I think it might have been deleted.

    • Lol. This is backfiring like crazy on Grill'd! Did they get the work experience kid to type up the T&C? It's not like its the first time they are running a similar promo. Very naive of them.

  • Please voice your anger on their Facebook page.

  • +1

This is nothing more than failed marketing campaign from Grill'd.
Not thought out fully as to where this coupon might be found and distributed.

Not sure why Grill'd wouldn't just pull the coupon rather than tell you where to get on from:
    http://www.utimes.com.au/page10/page10.html

Will they care if a 10y.o. or a 90y.o. redeem their "uni student" coupon?

    • haha its not smart to pull the coupon. There will be mass outrage, and the ACCC will get spammed with complaints. I suppose neone who reads the utimes, is eligible to use the coupon. Expect to see a lot of a 'mature age students' come to uni to collect this mag.

      • So report them to the ACCC if you want and get stacks of vouchers. :P

  • So… i picked up 4 copies of utimes today lol

  • Glad I work in a uni… now off to search for utimes.

  • +1

Bad publicity, bit like the isnack 2.0, with all the public pressure on the social networks it left a 'bad taste' in their mouths. It's backfired on Grill'd and they're backpedaling, but thy're screwing it up, at least Kraft did the right thing. I'm off to Urban Burger.

  • +1

UPDATE! apparently nandos is honoring the grill'd burger voucher!

    • +1

I thought you were joking Monks,
      but see here.

      Clever

  • The Official blog from Grill has been closed on this morning around 9pm. What a joke?
    http://www.grilld.com.au/section/blog/312/

"We've had to close comments overnight to ensure we can monitor any abusive or offensive posts - we'll be open again in the morning."

  • Why aren't there negative votes here?

    • Once you vote positive, you can only revoke your vote (4 people have so far) but you can't go to negative.

Technically the deal is still valid if you use the print copy. Utimes are stocked all over the place.

    • why would you want to vote negative? The deal works at grill'd if its from the magazine, and works at nandos. awesome. :)

  • +3

wow grill'd can go get f*cked.

I went there today (westfields doncaster) and had no idea the electronic copy wasn't accepted but i was flat out told that it was a fake! They even had a sign up saying they're fakes or something. That made it extra embarrassing because if they had just said electronic copies are not accepted then it would have been okay. But today was the last time i have anything at grill'd.

    • +2

I'd be so embarrassed too! I'm not surprised they've said that to you because they've been announcing on their Facebook etc that customers have "scanned, manipulated and distributed" the vouchers. This accusation pisses me off more than the pulling of the offer itself!

  • All copies (print, scanned, electronic) are now accepted.
    http://www.grilld.com.au/section/blog/328/

  • +6

    What a backflip by Grill'd.

Its still too little too late for me. The damage has been done, i know how they treat their loyal customers - accusing them of trying to scam a burger when they present a legimate coupon. I wont be having a Grill'd ever again, i'm sure they will manage to get a few people they offended back, but the majority will refuse to go back because its just the principle.

We're not going to go crawling back to you because you're dangling a free burger in our faces. Sorry Grill'd, if you want to win over all the loyal customers you offended and embarrassed you're going to have to work harder than to backflip on a decision you shouldn't have made in the first place.

But i do have to thank you, i never knew Nandos burgers were good and i will be trying Urban Burger, which i didn't know existed in Melbourne!

  • +1

From reading the blog, I think it's a totally understandable situation — from the comments it seems that some staff were a bit tactless rejecting the coupons which is unfortunate.

I feel for a home-grown company like Grill'd. Nando's really capitalised on this situation and it's a little sad to see a monster company like Nanod's backhand local boy Grill'd. Oh well, well played.

    • +3

It's a little sad that a 'monster company' like Nando's has better customer service than a 'homegrown company' like Grill'd.

  • +1

The way this debacle has been handled by Grill'd has been poor, especially staff claiming so call 'fake' vouchers existed. Ignoring the fact there was an electronic version of the Utimes available, what if you were to photocopy the print copy of the Utimes coupon? Nothing stated photocopies couldn't be used either.

  • +2

Grill'd still make a profit when customers use a (any) voucher so it was silly of them to take the hardline and reject potential customers when the point of campaigns like this is to raise profile. Grill'd would happily have as many outlets as McDs if they could so it's a joke to play the poor little us card when they are already across four states.

It took Nandos efforts for Grill'd to see the error of their ways otherwise they would still be calling their customers cheats/frauds, embarrassing them in front of others and then making them pay full price!

I'm off to Nandos or Urban Burger (Aussie too!)… At least they respect their customers and don't treat them like cheats or idiots.

  • +7

    Man am I pissed off.

I just went down to the chermside store to use this voucher and they told me that they no longer accept print outs! In case this happened, I actually printed out the statement from their website (which said they are now honouring all print outs) and brought it with me. So I pointed it out in black and white, but he still wouldn't budge. Not only this, but he didn't even take the time to read it and treated me as if I was some sort of idiot. He just kept going on about the same crap "no, we don't accept print outs, only the ones from the utimes magazine" I argued with him over it for a bit then finally gave up and went to nandos down the road where they were happy to honour it.

Do I have a case for the ACCC? Because i'm seriously thinking of making a complaint. This is just downright ridiculous. I hope grill'd lose a lot of customers over this.

Nice work grill'd, you've just lost a customer for life.

    • I would complain to Grill'd headquarters, maybe ask for a voucher/gift card. Did you note down the employees name or talk to the manager?

      • +2

No, unfortunately I didn't get his name. He seemed like an arrogant smart arse and wouldn't even read the piece of paper when I pointed it out for him in black and white.

When I went down to nandos they couldn't believe that grill'd still weren't accepting those vouchers. They were more than happy to honour it there and said something like "you're welcome to print this out a hundred times and come back".

I have also posted this comment on their facebook page, but no doubt they will just remove it.

        • I'd go back and get the name of his badge… Then let Grill'd know (just so you get the last say on how he treated you) ;-)

  • +1

A bit late for Grill'd to do a 180. I've been watching this debacle unfold and can now give the first negative on it for the way it was handled.

    • You still have more than 15 days to use the voucher. At least it was a quick turnaround. Id say grill'd have learnt their lesson…. they're not the big guns in the industry, they need to respect their customers or expect to lose them.

  • nothing special about grill'd burgers to get rejected like that. they were rude! geez and I don't come to melbourne very often.

nice to see them admit their mistake but the damage is done.
