  • Does the AC adapter require a voltage convertor, is it native AU or does it just need a socket adapter?

    • The box uses 5V DC, They say they'll send you the correct adaptor for your country. whether that's a power supply with the correct plug or a power supply with a travel adaptor is anyone's guess. But most power supplies these days can handle 220-250VAC @ 50 Hz & 110VAC @ 60Hz and step down to 5V DC for the box.

      • They probably include one of those 20 cent plug adapters with the very thin flat pins that should be thrown in the bin.

    • No voltage converter required. An AU adapter will be included, but a travel adapter normally works better. Dick Smith usually has them for $2 in their sales.

  • Coupon code expired, your link for another coupon code doesn't give a valid code

    • Try GRZYOXAC, it seems to be working.

    Do not buy Tronsmart boxes.

I have the orion R68 and SPDIF/HDMI Audio output has never worked correctly on this box. Tronsmart do not seem to have the skills to fix critical software bugs in their products.

    • thanx Pengo!

3 or 4 firmware releases and it is still not fixed on the r68….6 months with this problem

    http://forum.tronsmart.com/forum/tronsmart-orion-r68/1390-on…

Which means the box is useless as a media center for anyone with a surround amp.

I would actually recommend avoiding all chinese boxes and just grab an Nvidia Shield off amazon.

it will never be fixed on the r68 because it is now a supaceded model.

they tend to focus effort on only the latest models because there is no money in software updates, just like all those android 4.4 phones on the market, no money in upgrading them to lollipop or marshmallow.

also the chip manufacturer does the software and the other companies brand and package the software at home I have tronsmart software on another companies box. they all have the same bugs regardless of brand because essentially same firmware. so only expect firmware for about 12 months then new chip and old development cycle is end of support.

this isn't like an iPhones where you get iOS updates 4 years after the phone was made.

but they make cheap smart tv boxes and are good value.

other option is buy Intel based box with Windows 10. but they are $30 more expensive. Kodi is related first on Intel
      .

power adapters some seller give you au plug pack some give you a double adapter……so be prepare to buy new plug pack or use the travel adapter and to add to the problem is they are 5v not 12 so can't re-use plug packs from other stuff that you probably have a box off…….. you buy cheap you get cheap with these tv boxes.

tronsmart is actually one of the better brands. but don't expect to see marshmallow as OTA update……

the android 4.4 boxes don't do,OTA update because the signatures on the firmware are wrong…. you need to flash to ver 5 first.

You've pretty much got all of it covered.

What usually happens with the TV boxes is that several brands will use the same factories. They're usually given the choice of using the firmware included or developing their own. Tronsmart develop their own as they're able to add features like OTA which is found in a lot of their boxes including some running Android 4.4 (Pavo M9 for example).

As for the power adapters. Travel adapters are good, but I would recommend a Xiaomi power board as it has the Chinese compatible plug and the socket themselves have AU, US and EU. While they're obviously not going to meet our standards, I'd be putting a lot more trust in Xiaomi over the generics.

  • Called 3D Blu-Ray but I don't see a Blu-Ray drive?

  • does not have av output
still using tv without hdmi :(

    • Time for a new TV this Christmas :)

    • still using tv without hdmi :(

Just use an hdmi to dvi adapter?

I sure hope by A/V you meant component, not composite.

  • New TVs would be the bottom of list :p,
Yes, component, had bought hdmi to AV adapted b4 but useless for chromecast.

Which dvi will do the job?
    Tq

    • If you have an old flat-panel with DVI (digital pc) input, you can try an hdmi->dvi cable or adapter.
But on some tvs, it may not look as good as component. Might not even support 720p etc. And no sound over dvi, of course, so no chromecast.

Got one of these. Only took 3 days for TNT delivery (was free!)

DTS-HD passthrough works and bluray rips at full original size (30GB) work well over ethernet. Did not bother with wifi.

To get HD pass through support you have to use the custom Kodi release that is pre-installed.

For the price this is amazing. Could use a better remote though.

  • I have also tested it for about an hour, great little device, runs really smooth. Tronsmart's custom user interface feels nice too.

It worked straight out of the box, literally didn't have to do anything to set it up.

For anyone that has this box, we've released Remix OS for the device as seen below

    • This is so awesome! Can't wait to install it tonight.

        Remember to backup first.

Fortunately the stock firmware is avaliable for download.
