A great spec'd phone, I am using it myself… The camera has a magnificent clarity, the battery life is great. Can't go wrong at this price.

Just install the Global ROM and it works like a charm.

        • You are welcome.

Also if not mistaken, the screen is normal glass, not Gorilla Glass (as is the case with my Redmi Note 2 Prime).

A tempered glass protector can be useful (I have a Nillkin installed on mine); see Whirlpool Redmi Note 2 accessories thread

        • @foojm: Just got mine tempered glass yesterday, it was cracked a bit near camera bit. Reported to seller

my cousin in malaysia has this phone and I was using it. It's so intuitive like the iPhone. I don't like Samsungs because I find it hard to use but this phone is really awesome. Huge screen and if I was changing to Android I would get this.

  • +1

I've got a lenovo k3 note and what really annoys me is the bloatware/ads.
I realise that rooting is a great solution for some, but I don't know how to root the phone, and frankly I don't want to- it's complete crap that they come with all this stuff installed- I bought mine from a woolworths click and collect seller too.

Anyway, does this have any spyware/bloat/adware issues?

    Cheers guys.

    • +1

None in the (official) Global ROMs as far as I am aware.

Standard Operating Procedure is to replace the pre-installed reseller ROM with the latest Global ROM. This is really easy to do & doesn't require root

      • Hmm I thought it required root. Looks like I may have just unnecessarily rooted 2 (of my friend's) Redmi Note 2's unnecessarily (for the purpose of installing MIUI 7) then lol

    • As foojm said, the global stable ROM is malware-free.

Very easy to install.. You could download the ROM directly on your phone and flash it.

I also liked the idea of scrimshaw of building your own ROM using www.smiui.net that will let you delete items like xiaomi framework etc if you don't use them.

    • hey mate,

My Lenovo K3 note had the bloatware in the ROM. Just install the global rom and it should be all good(it's still working like a new phone).

Just make sure the VCOM drivers are installed in your computer or else the flashing won't work.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/lenovok3note/wiki/stockroms

Download here and let me know if you have any issues

  • FYI they have just released the note 3. Better battery at 4000mah (longer charge time), metal back, quicker processor, fingerprint scanner, no microsd and non removable battery. I think it was $180usd for entry level.

    https://www.androidpit.com/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-review

    • Also has 3gb of ram and processor is 8core. $170 for 16gb & $210 for 32gb at gear best. Still lacks that 4g band everyone has mentioned.
I'm happy with the note 2 purchase still

      • You lost me at Gearbest. Those $#!t$ have burnt me bad. They are banned from OzB. Never use the GB swear word on OzB again.

      • I went with the note 2 from eglobaldigitalcameras came to $190 including express shipping

Will be interesting if I can add as 2nd Sim my opus datashare Sim … them my son can have Aldi for incoming calls and use my datashare Sim for data / Skype etc

      • +1

NOTE 3 hasn't got sdcard option.

        • Do you know where to go in settings to be able to have GPS/Location ensure my lock screen does not activate whilst there. I have gone through every setting and just cant find it. Thank you in advance.

        • @Gringoesai: Settings > Additional settings > Privacy > Smart Lock

        • +1

          @PBG: cheers heaps

        • @PBG: Have you had luck successfully activating this. I have mine set to home and work and it still locks?

        • +1

@Gringoesai: some work some don't. I think you have better luck if you're updating the latest xiaomi.eu ROM. Mine works but it didn't before the ROM update. Check out the forums at xiaomi.eu for much more reading up on this

  • Can you use an Optus sim as the secondary sim. I want to use Voda or Telstra for the primary one.

    • Just found that Optus supports TD-LTE which can be used as the secondary sim.

Still I don't see any storage upgrade mechanism. No SD card slot in the specs which is a big disadvantage for me. I already have that issue with my LG G2 I bought just a year back.

      • I think DealMachine's specs are wrong, as the official specs show Micro SD support here. My Redmi Note 2 Prime supports Micro SD.

Sure you can use Optus as a secondary SIM. First insert your Voda/Telstra SIM, then pop in your Optus SIM in the remaining slot (SIM1/SIM2).
Then go to MIUI Settings app and (optionally) designate your primary voice SIM.
For data, just enable 3G/4G on your Voda/Telstra SIM and your Optus SIM will become 2G only.

      • +3

This phone has a micro SD card slot.

      • +3

it definitely has an SD card slot

        • Well, I read on specs bit more and then found out that the mico SD slot is only available for Chinese version. As this web site is meant for US market and the specs in here doesn't show the mico SD slot I have my doubts on this. Hope someone who has bought this exact model from this website can confirm this?

On the otherhand one of my friend has bought a "ZTE Blade S6" for $200+ something from JBHiFi with some bargaining. (Can't remember exact price). Internet reading and comparisons say Redmi Note 2 is for low end market. ZTE is expensive and specs are almost same or little less on processor speed. (That's octa core as well) less pixels. ZTE has the micro SD slot. I am still thinking which one to buy. If I know for sure Xiaomi has Sd slot I'd buy that.

        • @rmamila: "… and the specs in here doesn't show the mico SD slot I have my doubts on this."

Halfway down the DealsMachine page, under Specification->Hardware it states:

External memory — TF card up to 32GB (not included)

        • +1

@rmamila: it has an SD slot, some websites report the specs as not having it, they are wrong

100% it has an SD slot, I have a 64gb card in mine (only supports 32gb officially, but works with 64 if you format it in a pc)

        • @Makoto: Cool. Thanks for the information.

Just ordered now. With the terrible conversion rate from CBA Amex card the total was AUD 188.76 but not 177 :(

          Still it's a good deal.

        • @rmamila: I bought from eglobal and yes it has Micro SD cardslot and am using my spare 8gb card in it for now.

I am with Optus 4g and speedtest has results:
          43.72 Download
          29.84 Upload

        • @codename47: Thanks. I'd be very happy with that sort of speeds. Still waiting for the delivery of the phone.
I later saw Redmi-Note3 32GB version for under AU$300. If I saw it before I would have bought that.

        • @rmamila: You won't regret mate. Order microSD card if you haven't will come handy

  • Can this be used for gaming??

    • +3

      Are you from the future?

  • How does this phone compare to the lg g2 32gb? Would it be an upgrade?

    • +1

      The LG is more expensive

    • I gifted my dad LG G2, he loves it. It's been over a year and still have no issues with it.

  • How does the referral work? New to this so not sure what I'm doing :/

  • I ordered one.
They messaged me back and said because I'm in a rural area (tweed valley) it would be an extra $35 postage.
    Cancelled order.
I used the quicker more expensive postage option as my wife's phone has just carked it, so maybe that had something to do with it.

    • Sorry to hear that, I suggest you try this website, their expedited shipping is much cheaper (Only $7 AUD):

      http://www.everbuying.net/product1120444.html

      Just select the

"Proceed to Checkout" option instead of "Checkout with Paypal" as it will give you option to select the Expedited shipping. You can later select to pay with Paypal.

Great phone & price.. Just bought one. Thank you :-)

Have been eyeing off this phone for a while now only summat has thrown our dollar in the toilet :| sunk at U$0.7 since 7th jan:(
    mmkay .

How about everbuying.com .. is she good?
    advised High Risk!(0%) *scamadviser Lol

showing Au$168 on XN2 delivered \$156 after cashback seeming a deal.

    • +1

Yeah, I was eyeing everbuying too, but comparing trustpilot reviews, everbuying is poorly rated compared to dealsmachine and eglobal.

      Everbuying https://au.trustpilot.com/review/www.everbuying.com

      Dealsmachine https://au.trustpilot.com/review/dealsmachine.com

      Eglobal https://au.trustpilot.com/review/eglobaldigitalcameras.com.a…

So I figured it would be a safer bet to pay $20-30 more to buy it from the latter two, rather than at everbuying.com.

    • +1

      buy from vickmall

      • +1

Why pay 215aud at vickmall (DHL) when I can get the same for 185aud at Eglobal (DHL)?

        • Ended up doing the same , used the Welcome voucher code for a $5 discount. $185 with insured shopping.

        • @bazzazz: I am in the situation to buy one from eglobal too ?

Looks like it supports all the bands and for $185 it's a good phone. I hope it's as reliable as my Lenovo K3 Note ( gave it to mum, her 1 year old Iphone 5 had issues)

        • Yes this looks a good option to replace my HTC one that got stuffed due to water damage.

Anyone used eglobal before? Would the phone come with the google play stuff installed?

        • +1

          @codename47:
I have researched the phone a fair bit since this deal was posted.. I really havent seen many negative comments from users apart from the malware they come with..(Which is easily removed). In fact as far as bang for buck! Most users rate it 8 or 9.. I am happy with that.

        • @codename47: You get 24 months standard warranty on Eglobal too; I think I'm gonna buy from there rather than from Dealsmachine. You only get one year with the latter, but it does come to faster delivery overall because it ships within 24hrs as opposed to the 2-3 days on eglobal.

        • @Zhalfrin:

          Thanks guys

I had bought 2 DSLR (canon 1100d) for friends and they all came on time so all good.
yeah all these chinese phones get loaded up with the bloatware. I will flash it with Global ROM as soon as I get them

        • @codename47: Yeah, I double checked, it was only 12 months warranty for mobile phones. Sorry!
EDIT: Comment from GoFast below seems to show that the 24hr processing time from Dealsmachine is bogus…

        • @Zhalfrin: They all say that for some reason. I think its the actual time required for them to confirm funds recieved in their hongkong/china banks
12 months is alright man. Phone is outdated in months or gets slower by then.

        • @Brianqpr:hey mate, these phones have lots of bloatware as mentioned. There is an easy fix. Goto xiaomi website, click downloads and select your phone model. There will ROM link to Stable rom, download that. Also, download the MIUI installer pc suite.
Once you have the phone, open youtube tutorial to flash new ROM and your set!

        • Thanks for the info. eglobal are telling me vie email that it would come with google play and global ROM. Do you think I should still take these steps?

        • +1

@Brianqpr: I just received mine today, and I double checked the ROM. Its NOT official Global ROM, so I suggest you do flash the correct, official global rom.

        • I paid $215 with a official glass protector and an official hardcase (Nillken i think). Vickmail also flashed it and as my computer is on the brink it was worth the extra dollars.

        • +2

@Brianqpr: I got from them but still I installed the latest Stable ROM

          http://en.miui.com/download-274.html

          Very easy to install.

          Download the file:
          1. Copy into your SD Card
          2. Open the UPDATER app (already in one of the folders in your phone)
          3. After the updater finishes checking for updates, you will see three dots '…' on the top right side of the app.
          4. click the dots and select the install package.
          5. Browse that zip file and let it install the ROM

          Hope that helps

  • Anyone buy this from deals machine and had it posted? I purchased 3 working days ago, and its still showing as processing. So much for in stock, 24 hr shipping.

    • +1

I purchased it from eglobal but am guessing the dealsmachine might work like jd. It might take about a month to come ?

      • Yes, I am expecting about about 2-4 weeks. I wasn't very clear in my comment above. The website says "ships in 24 hours", which I take as it will leave their store 24 hours after ordering. Given it is now 3 business days later I am questioning if they actually have stock ready to post.

        • -1

When I was ordering from dealsmachine the price was being calculated about $188. Then I read comments and someone posted a link from eglobal and I found it was cheaper there and faster shipment.
However, am hoping that it gets shipped today!
48 hours processing time is seriously bullshyt -_-

  • Can anyone plz tell me WILL THIS MOBILE WORK IN INDIA….?

    • +1

      YES.

    • +3

Yes it will for sure. In India this phone is available for 8500Rupees however the processor is not Helio x10 but old gen Snapdragon. This was due to patent issues with mediatek. I hope that makes sense.

  • +2

    Thanks OP,

    Bought for Mum!

    • bought from dream machine or everbuying?

      • Eglobal… $182 delivered with 'welcome' coupon.

        • Damnit!! I didnt use a welcome coupon… paid about $8 more than you! Oh well, still looking forward to giving this to my partner!

  • +4

My Note 2 purchased from eglobal just got delivered today, they use DPEX to ship if anyone is interested.

edit: ordered on 6th so just over a week ago :)

  • Mine arrived today from eglobal too - very happy with it, much snapper than I expected. Things might change after a couple of weeks usage though.

    • Notice any malware or ads on the Eglobal version , or have u already flashed the global MIUI rom ?

      • +4

Didn't notice any ads but there was some "phone speed" app and a bunch of other suss looking crap, I installed the global rom pretty quickly.

        • +1

Did you create your own rom, or use the standard one?

How hard was it all to do?

Mine arrived yesterday from eglobal, its waiting for me today at the pickup point !! :)

        • +3

@shweky: I'm using the stable global rom from here: http://en.miui.com/download-274.html

I downloaded it on my computer, transferred it to the phone then ran the update app from the phone and browsed for the file - was super easy.

So far I'm finding the stock rom fantastic, it's a blatant rip off of iOS but that's not entirely a bad thing, they've obviously put a lot of effort into UX which is unusual for such a cheap device. There's a heap of useful and intuitive things like tapping the bottom left button will bring up open apps and give you the option to close them. I'm really digging it.

I've not played any games, but with general use I've found it just as fast as my LG G3 (will probably slow down after a while).

Make sure you put a glass protector on asap, I've already got a slight scratch from having it in my pocket with coins this morning

        • +1

@chu-oh: Awesome I will give it a go. If I get sick of the iOS resemblence I think cyanogemod might make it feel more like an android

        • @chu-oh:

Try Themes if you don't like the iOS look, some of the themes are really nice.

        • +1

          @shweky:

Building your own ROM (smiui.net) seems to be a better option, as you can get rid of things you don't need…e.g. Xiaomi framework if you are not going to use any of the Xiaomi apps e.g. Cloud, Xiaomi Store etc. The other Xiaomi apps e.g. MiFit etc would still work without the Xiaomi framework.

The parent ROM for these custom-builds is Xiaomi's stable global ROM so you still get the reliability of a stable ROM (minus bloatware).

        • @chu-oh: That's awesome! looking forward to receiving this, and having a go myself :)

  • Ordered monday from dealsmachine and not yet shipped.

    • Same deal here. Ordered Monday, from eGlobal and still not shipped

      • Same here, I have been emailing them to find out my order status.

They now changed it to dispatched

    • Mine has been shipped now. Emailing them did not work. Ozbargain post seems to work. :)

      • Mine is already in Melbourne! Yay.

  • I ordered on Sunday from Deals Machine and it is still not yet shipped even though they said they will ship in 24 hours.

Sent an message to the customer service and they are keep telling me to wait 2 more days even though I've been waiting for 5 days.

I would never buy from this seller again.

    • Hello RCmech,
Sorry for the inconvenience we have caused.

Is your purchase shipped now? If not,pls tell me your order number so I can check the order situation for you.

Just received mine .. Pleasantly surprised with it so far.

    • +1

Same! Feels so good, runs really well.

  • +1

    Hi Guys,

Just received my Redmi note 2

I have installed the global rom now and starting up fresh.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI2ZFZrawH4

The above link was hell lot of easier to install stable ROM (Download from here http://en.miui.com/download-274.html)

Now my question is why there is no Australia in the region while setting it up ?

    • +1

I did the same , installed the global rom straight up and chose Hong Kong as my Locale. Doesn't make any difference .. I am so impressed with this phone …
I am now going to sell my Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

      • you are right. I am impressed too actually. Feels pretty good for what we paid eh!

Just installing the necessary items and navigator.I download youtube videos so downloaded tubemate as well

        which navigator do you use?

        Navmii ?

        • I prefer to use Google maps as it has live traffic and I have heaps of data on my current phone plan. Google maps has never let me down. Although I used to use Navigon as well as it was free for Samsung phones .

        • @bazzazz:sweet. I have 7gb data from that Optus plan someone posted.
I use navmii mostly but if I cant find the address I jump onto google maps.

        • +1

          @codename47:
After all that … My mum loved the phone so much I gave it to her as a birthday present. Now ordered myself a Xiaomi note 2 prime. On sale at Gearbest. $225.00AUD

        • @bazzazz:Good on you mate! Gearbest takes longer time to deliver isn't it?

        • @codename47: yes you are right but eGlobal does not have the prime and the price at gr best is very good
