The 3yr warranty is surprisingly generous too!

TA - I'm getting a $5.95 regular delivery fee quote (30XX) - how'd you get it free delivery?

    • +1

Got one for my XB1 for $108 (pickup)from HN on the weekend, work perfectly fast transfer when moving games from internal storage to the Seagate.

      • You'll find the load times for games a bit quicker too…I was pleasantly surprised that the USB3.0 improvement was actually noticeable.

I was lucky enough to actually need two new drives anyway, so I grabbed them from HN using the two for $95.50 each deal.

Hi yojabbajabba. To be perfectly honest, I didn't actually test it. I assumed this was the case…

    • The Warranty will most probably be voided if you crack open the case and take the drive out :)

      • +1

Indeed! Thankfully I'm using it for an XB1 which is external mounted only and not opened.

          It's coming back in 2016.

That being said you can probably use it with DFSee and access the full 2TB

      • And my axe.

    PS4 = yes PS3 = no

    • +2

Correct. PS3 accepts internal hdd only up to 1.5TB.

      • is that right? i must find a 1.5TB…

        • Yes, it is. I have a Seagate 1.5TB in my PS3 :)

        • @Poseidon: Is it possible to just parition the drive - will it recognise the 1.5GB partition?

        • @realfamilyman: One way to find out for sure ;)

        • @Skexis: Sorry - I meant it as a suggestion to them - not a question for me. In other words, maybe some keywords in a search engine will answer it for them.

        • @realfamilyman: I have not tried this personally but doubt it would work. The PS3 does its own formatting when it detects a new hdd and the process hangs if a hdd 2TB or bigger is detected. I did some research before deciding on a 1.5TB drive and it seemed no one managed to successfully swap the internal hdd for a 2TB (or higher).

        • @realfamilyman:

          Thanks!

        • @realfamilyman:

and ozbargained, no more left, shoulda bought it sooner.

    • Bought 2 with the $25 off Harvey Norman signup. 1 installed in PS4, the other hooked up externally to the Xbone.

    • +1

Which means office works will beat it by 5%

      • +2

OW will only beat LOWER price.

      • +2

I doubt it because the advertised price at HN is not cheaper it's exactly the same price. Basically they already have matched the price.

  • This is a good price for 2TB of Seagate portable HDD, but by cutting the price to $108 it's actually not as good because price matching Harvey Norman's $108 meant I paid $102.60 at OW last week.
It had been $103 at OW the day before I went in.

I was also told at OW, that price matching doesn't usually apply to competitors' clearance prices, which $108at HN is advertised as.

  • I paid $103 last week

Is there a coupon to be used ??

I get $25.95 delivery charge (regional Qld)

Edit: Just saw the edit in the title. Only free to metro-areas. That may need to be modified too. Not sure if that applies to WA for instance.

    • Hello. As standard at officeworks, orders totalling over $55 qualify for free same day/next day delivery to metro areas of most cities. Extra charges apply for regional shipping.

      http://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/delivery-…

As stated on the webpage, country areas incur a shipping charge of $25.95.

      • I know now. This deal just said free shipping initially. Restrictions weren't mentioned.

Put 4000 as postcode, but make sure the street address, suburb and State are all correct. And (hopefully) you will receive it.

      • lol. Thanks. I might try that next time on a cheaper item :)

    USB3? Yep just checked :) 14 day wait………

  • Bought one thanks

  • Can the caddy be reused easily enough, or does it have to be turned into a plastic mess of shards to get to the HDD?

    • Yes, I've done the swap into the PS4 already, some of the clips inevitably break but it all snaps back together again with the remaining unbroken clips

Here's a video of a guy doing the swap using the same drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG-8DhOj_fs

The OF and HN hard drives have different product codes (STEA2000400 vs. SGEA2000TB). I gather they have the exact same internal hard drive/are the same product?

  • ..edited out ..

  • It was $103 before Christmas at JB when they had their storage sale, and at that time Officeworks had it for $108, so I got it price matched to ~$97.

  • I remember reading there's a particular size of 2.5" HDDs, which you shouldn't go over because they often fail. 2TB should be ok, but what about 3TB? Does anyone know??

    • -1

IIRC The increase in failure rate is to do with the number of platters in the drive.
2 TB drives are often 1x2TB platter in the drive.
Whereas 3 TB drives are often 2x1.5TB platters.

I wouldn't worry too much, you'll be able to tell when the drive is dying still.

      • HDDs usually last years for me. Desktop ones anyway - unless I drop them.

One drive, I don't know how - but it was brand new. And I was experimenting with different partition sizes in DOS. Cost me something like $325 years ago for a 200GB WD. I fdisk'ed it, and somehow bricked it!

I was going to get one 3.5" 5TB external for the desktop. Then 2x of these 2.5" 2TB for the laptop. And already have 3x 3.5" in use totalling 4TB. That would mean I can have 3 sets of the same thing. One always connected; one always with the laptop to take with me; and the 5TB disconnected as backup. No virii, no lost files due to dead drives again - unless all 3 die on the same day.

        I can get:

        • 3x of these 2TB for $108 each = $324.
        • Or, 2x 3TB for $168 each = total $336.
          (All Seagate.)

BUT… the most common drives I've had fail (with doing nothing to them) are 2.5" laptop HDDs. Which is why I'm concerned.

I like the idea of only 2x 2.5" 3TB drives. (The laptop fits two HDDs internally.) But you're suggesting 2TB may be less likely to suddenly die. Hm…

  • Thanks picked up one myself today (at HN).

The Seagate Expansion line is slightly bigger than my Seagate Backup Plus (which is still RRP $148) which is the only downfall.. would of loved to have matching drives.. but hey its $40 cheaper and does the same thing in the end. :)

  • For anyone else who also discovered the cheap 3TB HDDs that I mentioned, and is trying to decide if to buy this drive or a 3TB… Read these two links. The second link applies moreso to me, having cause to run XP on a couple of older computers (hint: 2.2TB HDD limit):

  • Also $108 on officeworks ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Seagate-Expansion-2TB-Portable-Ha…
then use cashrewards for an extra 1% off

  • im struggled to choose which hard drive to go with, and the price is all pretty decent at OW.

Toshiba 2tb canvio usb 3.0 selling for 129
Seagate expansion 2tb portable selling 117
segate 2tb back up plus slim for 146

I am just use for store TV series and movies, pictures.

please let me know which one i should go with, id rather spend a bit more to get a better quality drive.
