I've been using mine as media storage for my car so it can get a pretty long and consistent work out. It's true it gets hot but I've not had it or its 8gb predecessor fail on me. I have however had a different very small usb drive fail on me. My work IT guys advice was that it's often not the heat that kills them, all though it can be, but its also because they are all metal, the static build up in your pants (insert your own jokes here) can discharge into them and shock it.
tl;dr: YMMV but at that price why not.
