  • Could this be used to backup my dvd collection onto a hdd so I could plug into TV?

The last one I tried did not strip the anti piracy off, so the movies did not play. Its anoying having to go find which of my 300 movies I want to watch.

    • Could this be used to backup my dvd collection onto a hdd so I could plug into TV?

      No

      • +4

        Yes, it can!.

Didn't you see the part in the product description which says it can rip DVDs?. That means it's also an inbuilt DVD ripper to computers hard drive. So yeah it can rip your DVD collection to HDD.

        "What’s New:

        • Backup and Convert DVD Content – Including DVDs with the Latest Encrypted Technology
        • Convert DVD/Video to 100+ Video Formats and Portable Devices"

  • Can it do HEVC X265 ?

    • +1

      Yes

      From product page …

"Enable to convert DVD video to all hot video files or HD/4k/8k video files including HD AVI, HD MP4, HD MOV, FLV, HD WMV, AVI, MP4, VOB, MKV, WMV, MPEG, H264, HEVC(H265), VP9, WEBM, "

  • "Activate before Feb 10, 2016
no free updates, no tech support"

aka the first hit is free, kid. Next time you need to install, you pay.

    • +1

It means you must install and activate by Feb 10. And if you need to reinstall after that date it won't activate and so will basically become useless. Not my cup of tea it's basically a full functional trial until the computer dies, replace the computer or you need to format the HDD. Then you're left with having to pay money for a license. It's basically meant to get you hooked on the program so you'll get enticed to pay up money after the computer suddely dies or you format the HDD for a reinstall of Windows only to realise it won't activate any more.

      • I installed it anyway to try and it doesn't seem to give me a heap of control. It won't let me choose encoder and has just 3 basic selections for bit rate. If I try to change anything else the dropdowns seem to be disabled. There are a bunch of presets for various devices.

Basically don't bother. Use FormatFactory or Handbrake or other free solution.

        Uninstalling.

        • Perhaps not for you, but you have to remember that not everyone wants to fiddle or the degree of control you do.

It's free, so maybe they should do as you did. Download it, assess it then get rid of it if it doesn't do the job.

  • (solved it, disregard)

  • does it work for VCD?

  • installed it.. used it to convert various video files.. good wide range of conversion options…
enabled CUDA.. uses only one of the many cores available and also 1 of the 8 CPU threads
this is one catagory when you want every resource available being used !!
will play with it but if still low resource use -> uninstall

any ideas on a good video converter with lossless capabilities as well which uses CUDA/CPU's well ??

    • +1

Newer versions of FormatFactory use multiple cores but the resulting output doesn't play on some players. No idea about CUDA though.

I use an older version and run multiple instances if I'm doing anything intensive, and each uses a core. A bit clunky but it works.

        thanks.. will try Format Factory

  • try Free Audio Video Pack from www.pazera-software.com
Basic SW, but converts between literally all AV formats
