  • My daughter will be getting a Macbook Pro for use at school this next week. They don't allow iTunes/app store installs, but the IT guy looks the other way if they want to directly install a program.

Is there any way to get this "out-right", or is it only available via the Apple app store?

    • Not really familiar with how schools block program installs but I don't see how they can prevent you installing App Store programs if you set the computer up with an iTunes account based on your own credit/debit card.

Are you able to do that?

  • Thanks for this OP.

Does anyone know if there are equivalents to IrfanView or FastStone from windows on OSX? I've been looking for a decent picture viewing tool, TIA!

    • Preview comes free with OSX and is great for viewing images or PDFs, including basic image editing and annotations.

Yeah I've tried preview but I'm not happy with it. Cant even resize or do simple modifications easily. Faststone was SO feature packed, I miss it. Thats why I'm looking for alternatives…

Have you tried XnView? It's not as good as the Windows Version but it's okay. On OSX it's XnViewMP (http://www.xnview.com/en/)

XnViewMP is good for one coming from the Windows world. Especially if you are/were an avid Iview users, you would feel handicapped in MAC!
