Reviews:

Amazon 4.7 out of 5 stars 15 verified buyer reviews

  • Used extensively by the one-and-only Ken Rockwell: "It's a joy to use: its focus feels better than my Nikon lenses! I never thought it would come to this, but this Voigtländer lens is better than Nikon's own lenses: it has better optics, better mechanics, and better ergonomics. How about that! 40mm is the ideal normal lens. It's never too long like a 50mm, and never too short like a 35mm."

( Review is for Voigtländer 40mm f/2 SL-II, but you're getting the updated version which is the Voigtländer 40mm f/2 SL-II-N )

End of very detailed review summates: "The Voigtländer 40mm f/2 SL-II is an optically and ergonomically superb lens. I am quite surprised, as this is the first time I've ever seen a lens whose optics and ergonomics I prefer to Nikon's own classic manual-focus lenses."

* Steve Huff rocks too, offering some very worthwhile extra reading on this exact lens provided by French Engineer Julien Hautcoeur living in Canada who is an actual user (and a pretty good writer too):

    That's huge write up.
The lens is pretty good and did consider one a while ago but I can't be bothered with manual focus.
Good deal for those wanting one.

    • Thanks :) for those interested — an interesting guy refers to the manual focus as "kinda manual focus" — watch the video to find out what he means. It's worth listening to. Same lens, but canon mount.

'Rugged'. Now that's a term I'd never use to describe a camera lens.

    • Why? There are plenty of rugged weathersealed lenses.

Great lens, I hvae owned one of these for a number of years and can safely say that they are very well built as well as provide great image quality.

Anyone want to see the box?

And this guy at Robert White shows some good stuff, particularly if you're new to serious photography.

    Angry bastard says this.

And because it's fun to say Angry Bastard, he also claims this lens is better some Leica $10,000 lenses…Big call? Maybe…so why not watch and see if you agree? :)

  • +1

I have the Pentax version of these and they have amazing build and image quality for the price!
No AF may be annoying at first, but you get used to it after a while.
It is also full-frame compatible (although there apparently is some vignetting).

Ah if only I had a spare few hundy… +1 post anyway :D
