Free USB Host (OTG) Cable for Samsung Device Owners

5170

I went to download Samsung Smart Switch and noticed they are offering a free Samsung USB host cable.

Just go to the Samsung Smart Switch website and select Android or iPhone as your device, then under that will be a link to order a free USB cable.

It does ask for your IMEI number so I'm guessing it's for Samsung device owners only.

Sorry if this has been posted already!

Thats a pretty long time for express post.

        express post from China

      • +1

It actually was express post australia 500g satchel, think they must have ran out them when I ordered and easter (my parcel post is a bit slow also, sometimes takes a few attempts to get here).

The way I found out was cause KIES redirected me. It came in a box with something along the lines of made for Samsung laser printers after 2008 and packaging inside referring to UK.

Small text which states this after selecting iPhone or iPad, under no. 3:
To request a free USB cable from Samsung, click here to order online or call us on 1300 362 603, 24 hours a day, 7 days a wee

    • +1

      Under line 3. There's a link.

    • Once you select the device you're switching from there will be a new link saying "To request a free USB cable from Samsung, click here to order online" - as it's a javascript link you can't link directly to the cable order form.

  • Nice find.

    Thanks OP, that is cool.

Not so easy to find IMEI on Samsung.

Settings > GENERAL > About Device then tap on STATUS

Or dial *#06# to see your device IMEI (ignore / and 2 digits)

    • +2

Does tell you on the form how to get your IMEI…. Go to phone menu: Settings > About Device > Status

        • +17

          …NO ITS NOT.

        • -7

          @cozmo:

          OH, YES IT IS WRONG

          Screen Capture

I even put numbers on there so you can follow easier - of course that's only useful to those who can count.

          Thanks for the Negs.

          @llama:

I see your settings are in tab view not list which is the default. You will see if you click on the 3 vertical dots on the top left of the settings page the view as setting. So your right on how to change it but wrong to say level380 was wrong as it is right as well.

      • +4

Settings > About Device > Status

        Works fine on an S5

…and stop whining about negs. You've been around long enough to know that if you make a stupid comment here people will let you know.

You need to get a life. Cant belive u went to the effort of creating that pic just for this

  • Cheers

I entered a non-samsung device and it still accepted… Will see how I go

    • Might get bounced……

    • I used my ZTE IMEI and it replied, "Thanks for registering your interest…"

      • got the same message with my s7 edge

    Thanks OP!

This feels like the plot to an episode of South Park, where after giving them my IMEI number and ignoring the terms and conditions they now own my phone. Or can at least access all my info.

      • +4

That is absurd. They have always been able to access all of your info.

      • Oh well we're all in it together now. No burritos ;-)

      • Cuttlefish it asparagus?

Thank you for registering your interest and keep an eye out for our updates.

    • that's all I got too

  • That escalated quickly

  • Great post and thanks!

    • +1

      used my old Galaxy Nexus

      • Good old G' Nex. Still a ton of fun to tinker around with.

    • Used by S2 and S3 2012 and 2013

  • +24

Thanks, Used a IMEI number of a S7 i found on ebay :)

    • So what happens to the next owner of the S7 who wants to claim the cable?

      • Or the 500 other OZbargainers who used the same IMEI?

  • Great find OP! Hidden gem.

  • I used a s2 seemed to work ok but wouldn't let me put in the full imei number but still worked. Hope they have enough cables

    • +1

If it didn't fit, you are not looking at the IMEI number (or trying to include the numbers after the / which is actually the IMEISV). IMEI's are always 15 digits long. I doubt they'll even check for this though.

  • Is this for all Samsung or only Australian purchased devices?
Also what are people putting in for Retailer where Samsung was purchased? Mine was purchased online overseas by someone else as a gift so not sure of the retailer.

    • I typed the IMEI of my Xiaomi and I typed in Kogan as retailer. It accepted it.

      I don't even think Kogan sell Xiaomis….

      • Thanks. Ended up using there old Telstra Samsung flip to register. Since there new Samsung S2 tablet isn't a phone. Not worried if I don't get this.

  • +1

lol i wonder if they'll honour it all…

  • Thanks OP

  • -7

Thanks for your details we will be selling them on to make some money.

  • Registered my iphone, then my samsung, versatile

  • Thanks Mate

  • -1

Put a fake imei and fake store, still accepted. Lol

  • Wow, that's cool!

  • I created this page 2 weeks ago.. so proud of it.

    • +10

You created it but didn't tell us about the free cable??

    • -6

You get a negative vote for not telling us about it.

  • Don't know how comfortable I am handing over my IMEI.

    • +13

Handing it over to Samsung… who manufactured your device… and therefore already have your IMEI?

      • Yes, they may have the IMEI, but they probably don't know who it belongs to (unless you previously told them).

        • How else are they supposed to ship the cable to you then?

  • Yeah or you could just get this dual ended usb (computer one end/phone the other) from Patriot… best purchase ever! http://www.msy.com.au/flash-memory/13736-patriot-mobility-st… 16GB $14 or 64GB for $32

  • Put in Galaxy S II 4G - now we play the waiting game…

  • Why do they need to know where we bought the device from?

    • +1

      Whocares ?

      *Sale purposes/research

      • I was worried they wouldn't accept my dodgy grey import.
Good to know it's just for research.

  • -1

    i farted

    • -1

      Where?

      • +2

        In your general direction.

    • a little too personal, wait! I farted too :P

  • It would be nice to get an otg cable that has charging capabilities when you have a multiport usb device on the end of it.

  • -1

@RohBoat, please update the description as it DOES ask for your IMEI.

    • What does the 3rd paragraph say?

      • +1

Trishool wants you to capitalise 'does?'

  • Thanks!

  • Is this just a normal usb like the one that came with the phone or different please guys?

    • OTG cable, so you get a micro usb to female USB

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks
