Top Deals, Comments, Forum Posts, Members of The Month and Other Stats for March 2016

  • March was a bit busy between running the Easter Treasure Hunt and preparing for our new Giphy feature. Overall, a good month.

  • Our main priority, other than making sure the best deals are posted, is the wellbeing of members. We touched upon this last year and now have a mental health page in case anyone needs assistance. Again, we need to be respectful to each other and understand that we aren't all thick skinned. Play the ball (the deal) and not the man (the poster).

  • One of the other big changes recently has been the removal of Qwibble from our cashback providers. Qwibble was born out of Australian bargain site Buckscoop. They decided to split the site into a bargain site and Qwibble for cashback. Looks like they've been bought by PureProfile but more worrying is the lack of replies to customer queries + their dead social media pages. So looks like we may be down to 2 major players between CashRewards & PricePal.

Site Updates of Interest (Not a full list)

  • Mental Health Page
  • Show user reminders on top of front page listing for mobile site.
  • Removal of Qwibble from cashback providers.
  • Add theme-color support for Chrome on Android. (orange!)
  • Share with WhatsApp on mobile site (Whatsapp is #8 referred site to OzBargain)
  • Remove OP's ability to expire/unexpire deals after editing is disabled. (sneaky posters who cause confusion to our dupe rule)
  • More profanity matches for comments
  • Country flags next to site names on footer

March 2016

  • easternculture for posting the deal of the month, 20% off Tech Deals on eBay (which might actually go to lzefyre who posted the same code 3 minutes earlier). A bit of drama with eBay on that one on the launch day where the code did not work at PayPal. However it turned out to be quite a good deal from many different merchants.

  • Katie2014 for posting the competition of the month, Win GeForce GTX980 from Mwave. Katie has also posted the most number of competitions in March (98, with vote average +5.2).

  • OzDJ_ for posting this deal that might be cheapest in the world, Waterford "London" Desktop Bar $9995 from David Jones. It's definitely not your typical Eneloop or Xiaomi bargains here however it turns out to be the 3rd most popular and 2nd most clicked deals last month. Stacked with various gift card hacks I hope those desktop bars found some good home to go to.

  • JoFord63 for posting consistent and very detail deals on Health & Beauty products (some recent examples), and even a nice come back at jv's comment.

Congratulations!

-Scotty

Sometimes I wonder if a lot of the big deal posters spend their entire day looking for bargains and nothing else.

    • Good question. Maybe one of them can do an AMA?

      • I hope so. I'm sure it would be interesting. I'd love to see jv do one, but that'll never happen.

        • I think you mean that will never happen.

  • Very nice stats, I think you should do a "longtime lurkers" one. Or the person that reports the most posts.

    • +1

Or the person that reports the most posts.

I think that used to be me :P

      Lol cheers again neil :)

      • +1

For some big reporters we just give them Power User access & tell them to "fix these up yourselves" :)

        • Yeah, but then 341 edits later :P lol

        • scotty, what's a 'unique' edit, as opposed to an edit?

        • +2

@tightarse: A power user might have edited a deal multiple times over time. That counts as 1. So a "unique edit" would actually be how many deals / forum topics a power user has touched.

  • +1

    our new Giphy feature

Can we please have a "Giphy Friday", where a thread would be dedicated to just posting gifs and won't affect the rest of the site?

    • +1

  • Mental Health Page

    This is a good addition.

    • -1

A user made fun of another users mental health being, but no action was taken.

      Just my 2cents.

  • +2

    Well done Trent!

    Always high quality deals.

  • Thanks neil for the stats, i always look forward to them

Surprised to see my name mentioned 11 times this month !

    • Good work EC, I do enjoy reading your posts.

  • crazy amount of stats. great effort scotty

Some of the stats are automatically generated, however a lot of them are also hand crafted by neil. Thank him instead!
