  • This is an Acer rebadge…which is freaking slow for a netbook… well that's in my opinion, the HP 12.1 netbook is much faster…

    • Are you sure? The benchmark posted in that thread indicated the AMD Neo CPU was slower than an Atom 1.6, and in fact slower than the Z520.

I'm not saying this is better - they're both quite slow, but this is a great deal. I would not say the 12.1" HP is much faster, though it certainly will have better build quality / feel. The X1250 video will definitely be a lot quicker though. If the Gateway has the same res as the Acer (1366x768) then it will be an advantage over the HP.

      • +1

the Athlon NEO is faster the MV40 chip on the hp on that link you posted gets a passmark score of 390 and a rank of 694 whereas the atome z520 gets a score of 249 and a rank of 838.

Higher score better, lower the rank the better. So there you have it the single core amd is faster then the dual core atom.

besides the COTD HP is almost sold out.

also the 16:10 res of the hp makes it a more useable aspect ratio then 16:9 apart from watching movies, you will benefit from the extra few lines of pixels for web browsing. So i would say even in res stakes I'd opt for the hp.

        • My apologies - completely mixed up the figures :)

  • it is very similar to the Acer 11.6" netbook

  • Is this worth getting?

how does it compare to Acer aspire one 532h from JB hifi thats about to expire today?

    and also the DV2-1112AU?

i need a netbook :P tempted to get one but unwilling to sped more than $300

i want long battery life for light internet use and maybe watching series on media player classic

will this gateway cut it ?

    aynone?

    • why do you need a "netbook"? have you actually used one for any length of time?

why not pay some good money and get yourself a decent 12.1" or 13.3" that you will actually enjoy using.

      • to be honest no i have never owned any netbook before

the reasons why i want one is for mobility. Im using my mammoth 17" desktop replacement at the moment but its unmoveable and battery drains like leaking bucket.

I just want something simple where i can do word processing and watch tv series okay

and i m hoping to pay no more than 300

thats why i was looking for cheap netbook, since thats the closest to what i want. but if i can find a laptop for around $400 with SUPER LONG and i mean REALLY LONG battery life i wouldnt mind either

        any suggestion?

        • well, if you really only want it for word processing and watching low res tv episodes then a netbook is perfect.

But I suspect that after 3months you'll be wishing you had bought a more powerful machine.

Why not consider an Acer 1810tz or an Asus UL30vt. Both have good battery life, the UL30vt in particular. You can probably import it for approx AUD$850 if you can find it on sale in the US. Its obviously a lot more $$$ but you'll also have a laptop that will be very useable for at least 3 years, possibly more.

Nooooooo 520 is undervolted atom which is just slower to enhance battery life dont doo eet!~

stop jumping guns on these shitty tech failures and just pay for the better ones, you know youre getting what you pay for anyway dont get butthurt when they dont perform as u expected.

    • this man is spot on….

don't make a silly purchase. If you spend the money on this, or the hp, you'll only regret it later !!! Buy something that you will actually get some use from.

  • I am looking for a netbook, any suggestion?

    Is $367 10% off already?
    or $367*0.9-$39 =$291????????????????

  • Sunday Mail (Brisbane 18 Apr 10) has Samsung N130 for $287 at Harvey Norman. 6 cell battery I think. I would have bought one except last week I bought a top end Toshiba NB200 on runout for $399 (from which deduct $100 Tosh rebate). The N130 is not the best 10" netbook around, but good value at $287 IMHO.

  • OK, the biggest problem with the N130 apart from how cheap it looks, is the SOUND, it has only ONE tiny little speaker, so it's useless for watching movies or tv shows except with headphones.
