Nothing lives forever, no matter the brand, colour or manufacturer. That is why you must always have a back up. Storing data is the cheap part, keeping it intact overtime is the expensive bit.

Don't know why you were neg by many people. I had 4 Seagate HDD died on me the last 4 years. My WD are all still running fine. I learned my lesson. Problem is that WD just bought Seagate also so we'll see

      • WD just bought SandDisk, now WD also bought Seagate. Two acquisition in succession, storage business must be booming. Where did you get the news?

      • Any proof of this? Best I could find was one news article… And with 2 giants like WD and Seagate merging, it'd get a lot more coverage than that…..

    Time to upgrade your ps4

    • -2

PS4 needs a 2.5" HDD with SATA interface.
This one does not have SATA interface.

      • Crack the drive out of the case?

      • This inside hdd does have SATA interface.
I just bought one from last 20% ebay deal at Binglee and upgraded my PS4.

        • +2

What was the date of manufacture? I've read that the ones manufactured in 2016 are different so you can't access the SATA properly (can't find the forum now). That's the only thing that's holding me back from getting this for my PS4.

        • +1

@VampyreDrake: My date of manufacture was 02/2016 and I bought mine from the Bing Lee deal too. So hopefully it's the same case for these ones as well.

          @VampyreDrake:

I had a WD Passport a few years ago with an integrated controller board and no SATA interface.
It's always a good idea to look around online to see what people have to say about ripping a hard drive out of an enclosure because some of them cannot be used outside of the case due to proprietary parts.

I haven't tried to open up a Seagate to check but I haven't seen anything online to indicate they use a non standard interface so I'd be reasonably confident the drive is safe to buy.

@vjay: This particular drive is perfect. Bought it from this post yesterday, ordered about midday yesterday and picked up at about 3.10pm that afternoon.
Was a little over excited and removed the enclosure lid in the car park. Came relatively easily. It does have sata. Just backing up the ps4 now so I can install it tomorrow night.

        • @VampyreDrake: Thanks for the replies guys. I'll probably order this as soon as I get home today.

        • @VampyreDrake:
Works perfect. Easy as to do.

        • @tekkrohnz: Ordered it. Got the email that it's been sent. My 3 year old is going to get a crash course on how to open a PS4 and pull out the hdd. :)

        • @VampyreDrake: TBH, i was surprised how quick and simple ot was. You will have the hdd swapped in <5 minutes. Only advice is, set up your backup early. It took like 3 hours to backup my PS4 (>300gb) to a usb3 hdd. So get that started the day before, then you can just put in the fresh drive and restore to it as soon as you get it. Even the restore took almost 2 hours.

        • @tekkrohnz: Thanks for the advice. I was only going to backup saves though, and then just re-install stuff as I play them. I already have my passwords for my three region specific profiles written down and ready to go. I guess I should get started on those save files though. I've already downloaded the 800mb update.

        You should do google first.

You can crack the case, take the seagate 2.5" inside and replace it with your ps4. This is the cheapest way to upgrade your ps4, and you wont loose warranty because sony allows you to do it.

I did it for my ps4 and worked like a charm.

        • Ive done it with the same hard disk too. Don't forget to do backup first

Im not a big fan of Seagate, more of an air conditioner

  • Try to stay away from this series of Seagate (the plastic case diamond patterned version).

Bought a 3TB version of the same and its not even 1% of the previous Seagates I have purchased over the last 15 years (which are all still running and the USB3 versions give full 80-90MB/s USB3 performance no matter if one large file or lots of little files).

Returned it to Officeworks who concorded with me the drive doesnt live up to expectations.

Ended up replacing it with a oem Seagate 2.5 drive and a 2.5 USB enclosure.

    • What was wrong with it?

      • +1

Performed at way less than USB2 about 99% of the time (less than 3MB/sec).

Seagate is going through a rough patch at the moment with alot of the larger drives (they have a lawsuit pending for the really high failure rate of their 3TB desktop drives). Not sure if this extends to their 2.5" drives.

Have bought a few WD's for other family members, don't like their extra partition though.

  • -1

Seagate HDDs are now just like Maxtor's previously - they need to shut up shop and admit that WD makes better storage solutions

    • I'm surprised your avatar actually passed!

  • Any chance that it is 7.2k rpm?

  • +1

I have 3 Seagate drives, a 4TB and a 3TB desktop drives along with a 1TB portable drive and all run fine!

Maybe I have been 'lucky' three times in a row?

  • +1

Thanks Op, just bought on, hopefully I can put it in my PS4.. If not, I'm sure I can use it somehow!

Note that it would not allow me to click and collect the drive, just post. The postage was only $5 so no biggie for me just a heads up.

    • +1

It should work. Pulls out of the case without much struggle (well, given they're in a case). It has sata, so all should be good.
Will be able to update you (hopefully) tomorrow night. Backing up the PS4 tonight, which takes ages. Was hoping to do it tonight but left it too late to start the backup.

      • +1

Worked fine, upgrade was easy as.

        • I just received mine and cracked it open and it's a sata connector and was easy to remove. I'll be putting it into my PS4 tonight if all goes to plan!

          FYI mine was manufactured 02/2016.

  • no more stock in WA :(
