  • Good price, that Nikkor 18-105mm VR Lens is supposed to be quite good, no? Either way you could sell the lens on eBay for a fair sum I'd have thought.

    • offer is extended to 12/5/2010 12pm

  • Is it Austock or Import?

    • It is imported (grey) stock

      • I thought it was. The price was giving me a hint, but it could have been a (very large) bulk lot.

    • •The best price that you can find from an Australian local dealer
•Delivered straight from our warehouse in Australia
•And they all come with a 1 year warranty——-from the seller

  • You can get this for the same price from any of the major US retailer like Adorama, b and h photo etc. Its a good deal for Oz

The site says 1 year warranty which is misleading - Nikon dont warrant camera bodies outside the country of original sale, only lenses have worldwide warranty

    • could mean warranty covered by the retailer…but is there a rep can clarify?

  • Staticice price: $1219
The link is actually less: $1189

Discussion on Techrific here (I've never heard of them, and apparently it's a soletrader.)
There is warranty information on the page, though, and doesn't state it to be greymarket.

Then again, while some people disapprove of ShoppingSquare, they are well-known — so an extra 8% may well be worth it. (I've shopped with them with no drama.)

Also, they have no surcharge on credit cards. They offer 1.6% to 2% cashback. (ABN history + company info + terms.)

  • I am absolutely in love with my D90. It's a beautiful piece of equipment. Haven't used the 18-105mm lens, though.

  • Grey stock so no aussie warranty

Also the 18-105VR IS A BRILLIANT LENSE

  • If you don't mind grey imports, this mob is cheaper:

so, buy at your own risk.

Nobody was flaming you, trust me. Don't take it personally. It's just TopBuy.

As is stated in the thread, their terms and conditions of purchase are completely misleading. You'd purchase it for 1100 and potentially pay duties (5%) plus GST ((1100+5%) * .10). You'd be looking at closer to 1270 + shipping at minimum… instead of the 1090 that they advertise!!

It may or may not be the case. It all depends on the declared value. Some overseas retailers automatically "adjust" the invoiced value "for your convenience" even though you did not ask for it. Obviously the retailers would deny such practice and would never spell it out.

In TopBuy's case, the HK exporter can put any figure on paper as long as it's within reasons. They can easily claim that the camera is factory second so it's only worth half the street value.

Strictly speaking, if someone can trace the $1100 paid to TopBuy to the importation of the camera, then TopBuy will need to re-pay the GST on the difference between $1100 and the declared value.

        • On the contrary, you are the "Owner" and as such, you'd be liable to pay any applicable duties and taxes.

If the exporter falsely declares the goods, you may also be liable to pay a fine (body corporate) - as they were acting on your behalf, so to speak. Of course, if the false declaration wasn't communicated previously, then you obviously wouldn't be liable… but then you'd still have to pay applicable duties, customs fees and taxes.

Whilst your comment is perfectly acceptable, I'm merely pointing out that not only can customs reassess the value of the goods, it does happen. Anyway, the premise is built around the fact that the exporter will falsely declare for you in the first place, without communicating it to you, but obviously there's no way of knowing that without actually going ahead and purchasing it! Which I doubt you/anyone would be game to do given the risk involved… If so, well, enjoy the 30 day warranty - which, given TopBuy's reputation, amounts to sweet F.A! ;)

  • last time I bought PSP and DSi from shoppingsquare, they were all imported from US. Box was not sealed due to change of AU type power plug.

  • Ask shoppingsquare what THEIR warranty is if the Nikon warranty is useless. I bought a faulty mp3 player from them and their warranty was 30 days. I returned it after 30 days and had lots of headaches with them.

  • Yes, similar experience for me, bought a SD card from them, it was faulty as I tried few PCs and it can not be recognized, reported it to them, they agreed to refund as store credit, but the test from their end showed that SD card was not faulty. I did not believe it.

  • Just noticed that D90 with the same lens kit is cheaper elsewhere:

    http://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=245{17}77{4}53

$1224 delivered ($1189 + $35), thought never heard of this mod before.

  • Warranty through shoppingsquare itself? NO THANKS!

  • I bought this exact same combo on ebay for a similar price. Great lens and even better camera! But if I had my time again I would've gone for the 18-200mm lens, which is supposed to be a lot better. It's about $200 more from a site like digitalrev, but I think it'd be well worth it.

    • Don't think the 18-200mm is "better" - some say it's too soft, but definitely more useful as a "holiday" lens if 105mm was not long enough for you.
