were you the guy who stole my XS? ;)

      • +4

I did get the last one. So, YESSSS… haha

    • Braddon represent :) Didn't see anyone else there looking at the Halo downs but we must have just missed each other

  • Bought in store at Rundle St store, SA.
Large was limited to grey and black at approx 12PM local time.

  • Just ordered mine! Thanks OP! :)

  • Great deal!

I'm not sure if i'll be a medium or small, so I ordered both via the online store and will return the one I don't want. I believe I can do this via post or in-store (http://www.macpac.com.au/support/returns-repairs/?___SID=U)

    • They are designed to have multiple layers underneath. I got a small which is much closer to a medium size IMO. I couldn't even try on an XS because all the stock had gone for all colours. It would have fit me a bit better I think but the small isn't a bad fit, and it would let me wear a hoodie underneath which the extra small may not have.

A small is a small with the uber light down jackets, they don't feel like they are designed to be worm with more than a t shirt underneath.. which was a good fit for me as I can rock the slightly tight look well lol

  • Got a small black at Collingwood, not many left.

Also the Uber light down jackets are half price, with the blue ones on clearance for 85.

    Got one of those too.

  • XS small is good for anyone who is a small..these run a little baggy..got the last XS at kent st sydney

    • hi are you a size 6 or 8 in normal aust clothing size, am asking as thinkin of gettin the S in womens online, thank you

  • Can anyone comment between this and the Kathmandu 550 (http://www.kathmandu.com.au/mens/jackets/insulation/epiq-dow…)

    • +1

same same but different ;) On a serious note, macpac is a better value at that price point. If they are both same price, then Kathmandu gets my vote purely bcoz of my trekking mates raving on about how Kathmandu holds the heat better than Macpac and better built to handle the mountain abuse. If you aint goin to the bush then Macpac does the job very well. Wore mine on a work trip to Canberra when the weather was like 4 degrees in the morning and it did the job well by keeping me warm. I am not sure its waterproof though as the dew drops seems to get sucked in to the jacket and evaporates when in the room temperature as opposed to the proper waterproof rain jacket that I have where the water just runs off and no evidence of water anywhere in the jacket.

Edit: Deal upvoted. I bought mine on a similar shop sale in DFO and paid $99 over the advertised $129 and it has done the job effectively so far this winter.

  • Hmm shoulda bought a small i reckon. I'm 5'7 medium build and length of sleeve is a little long but nethertess fits ok with few layers..

    • what size did u get..i went xs even though im a small

    • +2

at least future proofed when you pack on a few kilos & get a beer belly later on ;-P

    • I'm 5'7 also and bought a small because there were no extra smalls left. Although I am 65kg which is (subjectively) between a normal and medium build.

Maybe order a small and return the medium when you get it. People here are commenting on how great the Mac Pac return policy is.

The sleeves are velcroable, so you shouldn't get any hang over your wrist.

      • I swapped my medium to a small and its a perfect fit for me now :)

        No issues exchanging at all.

Took the last small one @ Mel cbd hehe

  • +1

Awesome just pick one up from Melbourne cbd still a lot of stock left, thx OP

  • Got S size one, hopefully its not gonna be big for me, well too bad its season-end already but probably good for next winter ∩__∩

    • +1

Come to Melbourne, we can have <10 degree days until about October.

You should post that as a separate deal if it hasn't been posted already.

Are these jackets warmer then Uniqlo jackets?

    • Yes, I bought had the similar designed Uniqlo one and in my opinion the Macpac is thicker and warmer. But this is from memory as I have not worn my Uniqlo jacket for a few Months.

  • Can we return if it is too big if we order online?

  • Rays Outdoors have similar jackets on sale atm. Not sure which ones are better though.
    http://www.raysoutdoors.com.au/Product/MN-JKT-650-GOOSE-DOWN…

    • +6

I now own both. TBH they are both great and I have both of them with me now.

I think the Ray's Outdoors one might look a little cleaner (more city less country), but that could be subjective and more on why I prefer the fit below.

Some differences to note is; the Mac Pac has a separate travel pouch that you can lose, the Outdoor Expedition is sewn in. The Mac Pac has velcro sleeves and Ray's has stretchy fabric. Ray's has an additional internal pocket (which is half reserved for the sewn in pouch). I find the overall fabric of Ray's to be nicer, but my Mac Pac hasn't really been worn and is creased up from being in a shopping bag for a while - that may change. I prefer the fit of Ray's for me than than Mac Pac small if I am not wearing anything underneath.

The Mac Pac is slightly heavier and potentially warmer but I can't say for now as I haven't given it enough of a go, that's not to say Ray's isn't warm - it really is. The weight issue could also be that my Ray's one is actually a women's size 14 that fit me a lot better than the small mens when I tried it (the mens was a bit baggy, like the Mac Pac small). I don't like the double zipper on my Ray's one. It gets caught sometimes and won't open close until I force it. Mac Pac has just the one zipper.

They are both fantastic for the price. However I got my Ray's one last year for $60 I believe from a listing on this site about 10 months ago.

(sorry I think you saw this when I had some wrong information in it, it's been corrected now to say that Ray's has the additional pocket and not the Mac Pac which has just the one).

      • +1 on the MacPac creasing….that thing creases so easily and stays that way mostly due to the fabric composition?

    • +2

For what it is worth the Macpac is rated at 600 fill and your goose one appears to be 650

  • +2

Any idea why the price shown first is $93.81 Then at check out it becomes $99.99 ?

    • FWIW they are $99.99 in stores.

GST would be more than the difference, so i don't think it's that.

    • I can tell you it wasn't doing that earlier. Must be something behaving badly on the website.

  • Plenty of stock in the Adelaide store.

  • Can anyone comment on colour having seen the jackets instore - the 'black' looks like a grey/charcoal on my monitor. Is it that light, or obviously 'black' when seen in real life!?

    • +1

It's black. Looking at the picture without the dude modelling it on my monitor is similar to the black the jacket actually is.

In the photos where he is wearing it, that black is much closer to the actual grey/charcoal they sell.

      • Jeepers - lucky you mentioned that.

The version I thought was 'navy' is actually their 'black'. Maybe I'll get the 'forged iron' then.

Clearly I need a new monitor at work (or maybe new eyes).

        • To be fair, there is a hint, a dash of very dark midnight blue. Its hard to make true black in shiny fabrics as it catches the light and reflects rather than absorbs.

    • +1

it's black, but not a very dark solid black…it has a tinge of blue/grey in it.

i'd call it a light black, or a very very dark bluish-grey dark grey.

The ALDI down jacket $49.99 is identical in weight, specs (although 90% down) and apparent construction. Wondering if sourced from same factory?

    • +2

Dude they are horrible. Went in for that sale, picked up a jacket, dropped it ended up getting some hiking boots instead. I don't hike.

Maybe it was a different type of jacket, but the one I held felt like it was worth less than the sticker price.

  • +1

Picked up a jacket just before closing :) they still had alot.

  • +4

If you usually wear a small, get XS. There is still enough space to wear a jumper underneath.

I'm 170 cm and a medium build (70 kg). XS fits perfectly for me, even when wearing hoodie underneath. (S - arms are way too baggy)

  • I wonder if any customer has ever paid $279 for this jacket?

    • +1

      Pretty sure someone would of.

  • Are these better than mountain designs?

  • Anybody check out the Perth City Store?

  • Anyone know which courier Macpac uses for shipping? Just wondering if it's Startrack as I would use my parcel locker if they use them or Aussie Post.

EDIT: Don't worry folks - placed an order to work just to be safe.

    • Thank you!! I couldn't make it to the Melbourne stores today, was worried they would be ozbargained out.
Was just about to bite the bullet and bitterly pay an extra $10 shipping, then read your comment :). Pretty much free shipping!

How does it compare to Uniqlo's down jacket?

    • +3

Uniqlo down jacket is useless. It can't even tell how much is down-filled.

  • +3

In case anyone else is in the same position as me…

I ordered yesterday without the EXPLORE code so I rang Macpac directly to see if I could cancel the order. They asked me for the reason and I told them that I would want the 10% off so I would re-order which would end up a better deal for me. The lady on the phone said she would apply the 10% off for me and have the balance refunded to my card directly.

    Great customer service there!!!

  • +1

I'd normally be a medium but I'm trusting in my fellow ozbarginers and have bought a small :) Good deal OP!

  • worth buying if i live in sydney and you'd only use it for winter (unless you go trekking or something)

    • +1

If it's under 10, or under 15 with harsh wind, then you won't ever regret buying one of these. You'll wonder what took so long for you to buy a down jacket.

If it's under 10-15 degrees without wind, then i'll be comfortable with these types of jacks and just a shirt underneath. If I'm walking around though I would have to open the jacket as they can get too hot when moving. More featured/explorer/expensive down jackets usually have adjustable vents for controlling this, so you can fine tune it to keep it closed but not cook if you wanted to go trekking, snowboarding or other activity in the cold.

Also it's worth it just to save on heating bills for the times when you can get away with putting another layer on rather than turn the heater on or up.

      • +2

you sold me lol even though i think i have enough winter jackets to last me for a while haha

  • FYI I just bought the last size 6 for women's in Sydney CBD store.

    • +2

oh man thanks i was just about to buy it for the missus lol

well i will buy one for me and one for missus online, just wanted to try it out in store and also check out what size 6 looks like

  • How/Why the "stock accurate as of" shows a future time?

    • +1

Company is based in NZ, which explains the results being displayed in their time zone.

  • I purchased 2 from Macquarie Centre, North Ryde, NSW. Bought our usual sizes for Bruce and me. We're an older couple so don't like too snug a fit. Plenty of stock, especially in the medium to larger sizes. Will be able to fit a layer or two under it when we're in Alaska next year.

  • +1

Thanks Op. Too late for the Trip we just made to NZ but still plenty of cold weather left back home at this time of year. One for each member of the family so free shipping and applied the EXPLORE DISCOUNT as well

  • bought a one and im really impressed with this jacket! it keeps you warm and the fit and cut is just perfect! love it!

    thanks OP.

  • just bought one, deal is live again.

    • are u sure? i just checked and the discount is no where near what it was originally.

i.e. the mens jacket is now >$200 with the code.

  • Mine arrived today - sent from Christchurch. Wearing it now and it's nice and warm. Size is about right although the sleeves are quite long but thats better than sleeves being too short.

  • Anyone else find their jacket sleeves extremely long? I have fairly long arms yet these still can completely cover my hands!
