Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD $175.20 Delivered @ Dick Smith / Kogan eBay

620
CUT20

It appears that Dick Smith / Kogan did not jack up the price on this one as I have been eyeing to get one for a few days now. Almost jumped the gun when the 15% deal came out. Good thing I waited!

As always, there is the trade off for warranty if you buy local. 1year for this (grey import) vs 4years (Samsung warranty) or something like that. In my experience with technology moving so fast, 3 years from now this 500gb SSD will not even be relevant anymore. Plus if the hard disk failed, its not like the warranty is going to help me recover my files. I rather put my $30 savings into my next 2TB SSD :D

If you would prefer to buy local, MSY is selling this for $204

I thought they would have increased the price for sure! Should have waited…

Warranty is not worth considering IMO because in terms of the practical use you get out of it … well, you don't use it very often.

Disregarding that though assuming this is local stock you are already covered by ACL.

Sorely tempted by this damn you!

Posted from Hong Kong mate, definitely not local :)

I bought a samsung, it has a manufacturers warranty based off the build time of the hard drive if you "forget" your receipt, so you still can get a good warranty even if it might not be a full 5 years. (edit: 3 months AFTER manufacture)

Samsung is good and quick at honoring warantees.

  • Is this 3D-TLC?

  • does anyone know if i can I house this SSD in a case and use it as a portable drive?

    • +1

      yes you can.

      • so basically we can use it both as internal and external drive?

        • +1

yep, get a SATA3 to USB3 converter and case. not full speed but at least 350MBps.

  • The 1tb version also comes out to about $343 I think

    Out of stock

    • yeah ….. i don't buy any smaller than 1TB anymore ….. the realestate cost of the 1 sata connector in my lap tops and time to upgrade means I just prefer to do it once …..

A decent deal but keep in mind the 960s are coming:

    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2016/09/samsung-launches-ultra-fas…

I think the 960s are only in M.2 format for the time being but we may get 2.5" down the track.

    • we didn't get 950's in 2.5" form factor (unless you're willing to buy an adapter and throttle speeds down to SATA3)

  • Glad I got one before it was ozbargained :)

  • Back in stock by the looks

    • Bought 1! Thanks!
