Would be great if we had confirmation that these will work on Nintendo Switch

    • +3

      They won't

      • Any good reason for saying that?

        • It's pretty uncommon for online store games to be cross-gen from a single purchase.

        • I believe Nintendo already stated no bc ages ago.

        • +1

I would check the terms and conditions. On PlayStation it clearly says multiplatform downloads are permitted on 2 consoles and 3 handhelds. Nintendo have never allowed this and charge for every single device. Maybe, just maybe they are moving towards a floating license, but until the T&Cs mention it, just presume you are going to buy Mario Kart 1 on every platform Nintendo release and then abandon without software, again.

        • @Putnum:
          For Nintendo

        • On top of what everyone has said, from previous experience e.g Wii e-shop games couldn't be transferred to Wii u e-shop even with the same account and Wii u's backward compatibility with Wii stuff. If the same e-shop game came to Wii U's e-shop, you couldn't get it for free but at best a cheaper price than to those who hadn't previously downloaded it last gen and that only applies to some, not all that has been brought over.

Hopefully, Nintendo has improved and that they do carry over at a later stage announcement.

        • @Putnum: I mean, I bought Crash 3 on my PSP like 7 years ago, and then put it on my PS3 when I got one, and am currently replaying it on my Vita, all on one purchase.

It's pretty uncommon for Nintendo though huhhuh.

        • @Frugal Rock: Nintendo have never allowed this and charge for every single device.

That only applies to re-purchasing WiiWare titles as Wii U titles (which is entirely optional). If you've imported the same account from your Wii to your Wii U, you can freely use the Wii Menu to play all of your previous purchases.

FFCC: My Life as a King and FFCC: My Life as a Darklord are not available on the Wii U eShop, but that certainly hasn't stopped me from playing them on my Wii U.

    • I'd wait and see, but for now nothing is confirmed. I wouldn't look too strongly at the Wii and Wii U path but. Nintendo didn't have its Nintendo accounts then and largely overhauled the store system between the two consoles (including big changes mid gen). Obviously they haven't yet removed the one device limitation, but they have made a few decisions that were a bit more customer friendly like discounts for previous Wii eShop content owners.

I wouldn't rule out them making the account level stuff a larger priority this time. As it stands if they want third party support, the online services side of things needs to be improved and that includes distribution. They're the same company that just released a portable Mario Party title where a song as one person in a group owns the game, friends can also play using a free client.

I don't believe they've said no to BC yet however, and in general very much is unknown. From the teaser one might assume disc based games won't work as they appear to use cartridges, but digital content could be another matter.

It's related but we don't know about region locks either yet.

  • How much is project zero?

  • I hope the new Zelda works on the WiiU.

    • +1

Do you mean Breath of the Wild? If so, then yes they are releasing it for both gens but they did claim there is a big difference between the two versions.

      • Only difference that matters to me is the the Wii U version will be playable on PC using Cemu.

      • Yes, as long as it still looks great on wiiu I am happy, I didn't pay much for my WiiU, I was lucky to get it half price from DS when they stopped selling Nintendo stuff a few years ago.

    Weak selection, still bad pricing

As much as I love the Wii U, I'm giving up buying games for it. Anything multiplat, I get on PS4/Xbone. Anything exclusive that I haven't already got (Mario Maker springs to mind), and I'm waiting on news of a Switch port/version.

Can we all just hope that the Switch will still have the virtual Wii mode? If it has that, then I can get Homebrew Channel, if I can get that, I get Nintendon't, if I get that, I get a portable GameCube without the hassle of dealing with hooking a controller up to my phone every time I wanna play (and phone storage limitations).

  • Can we 'Switch' our attention to the deal?

Any recommendations on any of these discounted titles? Both for us gamers & 2 kids 10 & 8.

Have Bayonetta's ,Zombie U (still unopened), & Darksiders II.

    • Gunman Clive HD Collection is great value and also on sale (though not on the list above). It's suitable for kids that age too.

They might also like the Pac-Man games, though they're just OK - but at least the pricing's more reasonable now.

    • Any of the castlevania games, except for Simon's Quest. Also dungeons and dragons is a great beat'em up.

Looking into my crystal ball, the Wii U will be a sought out retro console in the future.

    • I agree, besides the Wii probably (maybe the limited edition versions), all Nintendo consoles eventually become sought out retro consoles in the future.

    • I've bought many consoles more as backups and hoard than investments, but I'm not sure it's clever investing. I bought a few clear colored N64s at $70 which were great deals but gamecubes getting cleared out at $100 were probably bad ideas. Dreamcasts got cleared out at $200 and have only doubled in 15 years, but any system with a backup battery might have issues. All new systems with rechargeable batteries might have issues later as the self discharge on Wii Us is massive. PSP batteries die inside sealed boxes after 5 ish years. Many machines die of underuse rather than overuse.

My advice as a career game hoarder of consoles is don't. Buy what you will play and play it hard and to it's death.

      • If you're referring to the Wii u GamePads battery, if there's a market it shouldn't be a big issue. The battery is user replaceable so that's an option. It does require a screw driver so it's not good as a hot swap option for day to day use, but if the battery ever fails there is a chance you can get another.

Many of the controllers with batteries also allow power via USB which may negate that too.

    • Certainly a possibility. I think it could in part depend on whether the Switch gets much of the Wii Us library or not. Some rumours suggested Nintendo didn't want the library to be lost simply because the Wii U itself didn't sell well, which may imply many of the more popular games will be ported over (if the console isn't backwards compatible) We already know Zelda will come out on both and have seen Splatoon and Mario Kart footage which could be ports with additional content.

If the console offers some form of BC or we see a number of rereleases, maybe that'd drive people to just play the Switch.

    Boring titles.

  • Great Price for Ziggurat and Shadow Puppeteer, Would also get Pacman 2, Dont Starve and ZombiU. Project Zero is a retail game but digital title discount is good for halloween. Slenders alright too.

    Pick those up i'd say.

Lone Survivor is also a weird but fun.

    • +1

I'm getting res evil 4 because my old gamecube ones don't work on Wii U So I have to buy it again and I think that's a good price :)

    • I hated shadow puppeteer with a passion. I thought it was a brilliant concept but the controls (2 player on pc with xbox controllers) were so woeful and frustrating. As well as the no depth perception and dying from not having visual cues… Never been so happy to finish and shelve a game so I never have to see it again.

      • I thought it was great. Having 2 characters to control on the one controller provided an interesting challenge. Two players would provide challenging but i had a blast playing it. There are a couple of harder areas/bosses but i thought it was standard difficulty overall. Figuring out how far you could stretch to collect items was fun. Hope they do a sequel.
