This was posted 3 years ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Apple iPhone 3GS 16GB free on a $35 Rollover Cap Plan with Virgin
The plan includes:
$160 in talk & text
300MB Mobile Internet Data
Rollover Your Unused Credit
Unlimited mobile talk & text 24/7 to other Virgin Members
Plus your new Apple iPhone 3GS 16GB
I don't know if this applies to all types of Virgin stores but I can verify it is available at all TeleChoice stores.
This is a run out deal to remove old stock before the new iPhone.

Great deal. I doubt the 8gb 3GS is going to be this cheap.http://techanist.com/techanist/2010/06/19/virgin-starts-the-...
+1 voteleonheart1 on 20/06/2010 - 13:55 ¶There's no "8 GB 3GS".
3G has 8 and 16 GB.
3GS has 16 and 32 GB.
The first sign of a scam from eBay.
+4 votesbargainben on 20/06/2010 - 14:01 ¶There will be an 8GB 3GS when the new iPhone 4 comes out, cause it only comes in 16GB and 32GB, so they are decreasing the 3GS to 8GB.

leonheart1 on 20/06/2010 - 14:04 ¶Ah okay. Glad to be proven wrong.
I never would expect that though.
chansthename on 20/06/2010 - 13:50 ¶you can do the same with the 4g, I can't believe I'm trying to get someone to upgrade their phone when they have an excuse
ZaFrOoNaLdO on 19/06/2010 - 23:17 ¶the deal, is it prepaid? or its equivalent to $35 cap per month?
bargainben on 19/06/2010 - 23:48 ¶It's definitely post-paid cause thats what it says. On a 35 cap with 160 worth of calls, 300mb per month. Normally Virginmobile do 24 month contracts with their plans. Does anyone know the PPP (Post Paid Price) which is how much of that $35 would be going on handset repayments per month if you wanted to pay the contract out early? Keep in mind Virgin have a $250 early exit fee (for the first 6 months).

oldskoolbreakz on 19/06/2010 - 23:49 ¶It's a 24 month plan. Discussion at Whirlpool here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1469436

This is ok… But I much prefer the plan I found, bit more expensive but then it comes with more,
Optus $59 Social; (24 month contract)
$450 Calls to anyone
Unlimited SMS/MMS to anyone in Australia
1Gb Download (and Facebook, Youtube, Myspace, Twitter don't count towards it)And I got the 32Gb 3GS for $12/month, I beleive the 16Gb 3GS would be $7/month
just wish optus offered free tethering, but then if your on the plan you can get the iPhone unlocked free of charge after 10 days of having the contract.I wonder what iPhone 4G plans will look like…
+1 voteoldskoolbreakz on 20/06/2010 - 00:10 ¶Thats the plan I hope to get the iPhone 4 on. It also has $100 off if you buy it online. But being almost twice as expensive, it can't really be compared to the $35 Virgin plan.
illumination on 20/06/2010 - 02:53 ¶Great deal! Friend's been looking for one so maybe I can recommend this, and she needs a new phone plan too. This should be alright for her.
Thanks for the post man!
+5 votesfunkymonkey on 20/06/2010 - 07:19 ¶Even if you don't want to pay premium prices for the iPhone 4, you'd be daft not to wait till it hits the stores in Australia before signing up for a contract for the iPhone 3GS. 3GS is top of the range atm, when the 4 comes out, this will be bundled at lower price point contracts. These "run out deals" are just a con to make people come to a hasty decision.
+4 votesoldskoolbreakz on 20/06/2010 - 14:17 ¶When the iPhone 4 gets here, the 8GB 3GS (that is replacing the 8GB 3G) probably won't be available on a contract this cheap. I think you'd be better off grabbing a 'run out deal' rather than waiting for the iPhone 4 release. Just my opinion though :)
purplebangle on 20/06/2010 - 09:17 ¶Not sure if people are gonna want this with the iphone 4 just around the corner.

+1 votechansthename on 20/06/2010 - 13:51 ¶and really you can't discount call credits on top of that.
theguyrules on 20/06/2010 - 11:19 ¶It's $840.
I can't remember exactly but I think I payed $860 for mine outright from Apple.

In the past with Virgin 24 month plans, you are able to break free out of the contract after 6 months, and just pay off the remaining payments due on the Phone itself (ie, you're not liable to pay the reamining 18 months of monthly repayments or anything). I'm not sure if they will still have this condition this particular deal though.
michael_123 on 20/06/2010 - 14:16 ¶Yep that is still the case, after 6 months you can cancel the contract and just payout phone repayments.
firepowered on 20/06/2010 - 14:51 ¶Really? What happens if you pay $0 per month for phone?
Well Im on 29$ per month, for 24month as i got a "free" Nokia E71.
On my Bill I think there are phone payments but virgin automatically cancels it out…
Trance N Dance on 20/06/2010 - 15:20 ¶Anyone willing to call up virign and confirm? Cause that would then mean you get an iPhone for $210.
+3 votesdoesn't matter if you pay $0 for the phone. Virgin 'subsidise' the cost of the phone over your contract.
There is a Per month price for every phone.. ranges between 15-40 bucks a month. So if you quit after 6 months you will need to pay $210 + 18*Per month price. So if for example the Per month price of the iphone is $20, it will be $210 + $360 = $570.
So really, someone needs to find out what the Per month cost of the phone is. THen you will know how much you would need to pay at the end of 6 months to end your contract.

The Quote Train on 20/06/2010 - 12:15 ¶How much does it cost to break the contract..say, immediately after you're given the phone..

I would love to get an iPhone. How does this compare to getting one through the Telstra Family and Friend Offer??? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27055 Thoughts anyone?

It will cost you $30 ($20 for iphone 3gs 16GB + $10 minimum call)

+1 votebeyondtool on 20/06/2010 - 20:03 ¶I would be warned that Virgin and Optus are well known for having particularly bad network connections with the iphone 3GS. There's a massive thread on whirlpool about it. Not matter how cheap the plan is, if the network is already saturated I would steer clear.
funkymonkey on 20/06/2010 - 21:46 ¶I'm with optus on an iPoon 3G, and i seem to have fairly decent coverage in VIC and good data speeds in the metro areas on 3G. Totally different story when I fly to Sydney though. It really comes down to locality… your best option is to find a mate who uses Optus/Virgin on an iPhone and check their connectivity in your local area.
Trance N Dance on 20/06/2010 - 22:32 ¶Haha yeah a mate of mine has one on Virgin and at school (which is right next to a mobile tower) he gets some pretty average connections. But then again being right at the bottom (within 300m) of a tower could be a bad thing as you might be out of sight? But the irony, next to a cell tower but left with a poor signal.
+2 voteskennansoft on 21/06/2010 - 10:51 ¶That is not quite true, You can port your number and you can also upgrade to it, but you are right on having to pay out the rest of your contract.

I was at the Virgin store yesterday and I was told by staff that I was unable to upgrade to this plan. I can either upgrade from my free to V 20/50 plan to a 45 roll over cap plus $5 for the handset or I have to pay for the remainder of my contract (6 months left) and go on this 35 roll over cap.
+1 voteJailbreaking is fairly legal as it removes restriction to install non-itunes apps from other sources. Winterboard for example. Installing cracked apps(to avoid paying) is however illegal.
I dont think android needs jailbreaking coz google doesnt restrict the phones as much as apple does with theirs. not sure though.
