    Should have 'NSW' in title

    • done

    • I think you meant/should be "SYD" in the title. Don't think many Coffs Harbour/Albury etc people would be interested in this.

  • I wish my station was more degusting.

    • Negative vote for a bad pun?

      Fair enough.

      • I evened it up for you :p

  • "Maximum 2 Scoopons per table 10 course menu available through to July
Valid for the seasonal degustation menu August - December"

    Doesn't say the seasonal menu Aug-Dec is 10 courses…

Also, with these scoopon deals, what is the likelihood that you buy the scoopon and then try to book and not be able to score a table during the valid period? Possible if deal is so cheap and high demand?

    • With approx 180 nights to use it and even if this proves popular with 200+ sold I think you would still be able to book a table one night, maybe night your first night choice if only booking a few days in advance but if you have a special occasion in say October I'm sure you will get a booking.

  • wow cool
before it was only 1 coupon per table
    im so gonna buy 2!

  • warning: degustation meal could take more than 4 hours.
I had the overrated Tetsuya's the other day, couldnt wait to get out of that place.

  • Guys there is a term missing please be advised of the following :

    The Fine Print

Bookings can only be made from 29 June 2010
Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer

  • Sorry, I might be fool.
Can someone tell what exactly this deal is? Is for $29 you can order 10 course meals at one time?
How can you eat 10 course meals?
Can I use 1 scoopon for my family of 4 person (2 adults and 2 children) on the same table?

    • Read this food blog for an overview of what the 10 course degustation is.
      http://www.notquitenigella.com/2010/06/19/alio-restaurant-su…

I'm pretty sure you can't bring a family of 4 along to eat just one degustation! I'm not sure Alio is a very family friendly restaurant either… it's sounds quite fine dining.

    • Degustation menus are per person. So you get 10 small to very small courses, enough to fill (or somewhat overfill) one person. The restaurant would have to be really dodgy for you to still be hungry after. You won't be able to share a degustation generally but depending on the place you might be able to share one for 2 small kids although i don't think small children would appreciate sitting through degustation. It does take anywhere from 2-4 plus hours and some dishes will be food that your kids might or might not want to try. Most places charge anywhere from 60-200 (or more) per person for degustation.

Guys, what does the third point mean:

Maximum 1 Scoopon per 2 people

(This fine print seems to have been added later on .. dodgey!)

    • +1

I suspect it means that, if you wanted to go with your partner, one person would have to pay $29 (using the scoopon) and the other pays $80.

ie. $109 altogether for 2 people.

It's a good deal but Alio can be hard to book…. I'm umming and ahhing about this one…

  • Yes… dodgy… not sure whether the original poster omitted it, or it was later added to the deal.

    • i'm quite sure it was added to the deal. I've email scoopon and gonna see what they say. extremely dodgey

    • it seems like the original poster has nothing to do with the omission of details from the deal.

But I am going to neg to make sure people don't buy it on the posted terms.

  • I might get a neg on this, but I personally think that this deal is quite misleading (at least the title needs to be changed to reflect the very restrictive T&C).

    T&C: Maximum 1 Scoopon per 2 people

Hence, the 1st person will pay for $29 whereas the second person will have to pay for full price, which is $80 (www.alio.com.au).
So, effectively, the price is $54.50 each, a 31.875% discount only. Unless, you can use the scoopon for only 1 person (but you'll have to be a bit crazy to eat degustation course by yourself - 4 hours of lonely dinner).

I consider these kind of deals as 'bait', not being fully transparent for those people unaware of the T&C, although this one is better than some of the previous "deal" that says (for example) $10 for $30 worth of food, but only 1 scoopon per person, whereas the cheapest food costs $60 (effectively, you are paying $40 for $60, which is much less "deal" than it seems at first.

  • OH MY GOSH! I just bought this deal and i read the fine print and this sentence was not in it: Maximum 1 Scoopon per 2 people

i would like a refund now.. is that possible?

and is anyone else in my situation?

    • yes. i bought two, thinking that my partner and i could both get the meal of $29.

    • i cant get through to scoopon either. this is the message i get!

"This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

      [email protected]"

did anyone get through to them? This is very dodgy….

  • Got a reply from Scoopon

    Hi

    Thank you for your email.

An error was made when the conditions of this deal were initially loaded into the system and one term was left out, it has been added since and will apply to the Scoopon purchased.

However, this was an oversight on our behalf and if you would like a refund we will happily organise this for you.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    Kind Regards,

    Team Scoopon

  • Dodgy. Amending the T&C as they go. Knowing some people would not go through the hassle for the refund after purchasing it.

  • +1

    Yep - this:
"Maximum 1 Scoopon per 2 people"
was definately not in there before.

    Big difference between 2 x $29 = $58 and 1 x $29 plus 1 x $80 = $109

In fact, they sold over 200 tickets before the deal was amended… I wonder how many will request a refund, or even know that the terms have been changed?

  • I feel sorry for people thats already bought it and don't go back to the website to re-read the fine print.

    • Yer man, I went to Alio today and they said I can't use two for two people, I didn't read the "amended" TCs. How gay~ I hope I get a refund.

  • Hi Guys,

An error appears to have been made when posting, Please be advised the terms are in fact terms provided by the restaurant and not Scoopon. As this oversight was a system error anyone requesting a refund can have one issued from the customer service team and can be contacted on [email protected]. Please note [email protected] is not yet a valid contact for email. Scoopon apologizes for any errors that may have affected Oz-bargains members.

Maybe our computers are suffering from Friday-itus ? Have a great weekend guys,Who else is betting on Portugal causing an upset tonight?

    • +2

I am betting on Scoopon causing an upset to >100 Sydneysiders who fails to go back and re-read the 'amended' T&Cs (who would do that, unless ou want to purchase more scoopon?).

If you are any good, you will take the effort to contact those who already purchased and let them know about the 'amended' T&Cs and offering them refunds.

  • I Just called and ask, if 3 people can using 2 Scoopon, as the T&C state

Maximum 1 Scoopon per 2 people

    Maximum 2 Scoopons per table

They said one scoopon has to be share by 2 people, so 3 people can only using 1.

There is no where on the T&C states a scoopon has to be share by 2!!!
why can't a scoopon be using by one person by himself?

    • To be fair, it doesn't say Maximum 1 Scoopon per 2 people OR Maximum 2 Scoopons per table. You're assuming only one of the rules should apply.

Should "Maximum 1 Scoopon per 2 people" cancel out the other two rules as well?

EDIT Wait, no, I'm completely wrong. Ignore me.

  • this deal is getting more and more dodgy! if they were smart enough - they'd go into damage control!

  • Not very transparent. I was gonna buy this and take my Mum out somewhere classy on the cheap. Glad I read the comments first. Dodgy.

  • has anyone got their refund?
