    16:9 aspect ratio :(

    Other than that, seems good!

    • whats wrong with 16:9? what are other monitors?

      • +3

16:10 are the way to go.

      • 16:10 is getting more common these days…

        • you mean 16:9 are getting more common or 16:10 are getting less common these days

          • -3

@Trance N Dance: 16:10 is getting more common than 16:9 since monitor sizes are increasing.

It's usefull having the extra width, especially if you have a TV tuner running, windows side bar gadgets etc…

(edit : there are still more 16:9's but 16:10 numbers are INCREASING)

            • +1

@jv: 16:9 it's better for movie. It's looks good when you watch movie.

              • +3

@minniewu: Want to watch a movie USE A TV!!!
Yes I'm raging becaue 16:9 in anything smaller than 27" is annoying for everyday use.

              • +4

@minniewu: However more movies are now coming out in 2.39:1 (or 12:9)

                For a 24" monitor
A 16:9 monitor has the dimensions (HxW)
                11.76" x 20.92"
                Thats 245.96 square inches

For a 16:10 monitor the dimensions are (HxW)
                14.4" x 19.2"
                Thats 258.88 square inches

Now watching a 16:9 movie on a 16:9 screen you end up having a viewing area of 245.96 square inches
Watching a 16:9 movie on a 16:10 monitor you have a viewing area of 232.7 square inches.

Thats a whole 13.26 square inches (a little less than the size of 2 credit cards) you gain on the 16:9 monitor for when you watch a movie.
Every other time you use the monitor you are using a smaller screen compared to using a 16:10 monitor.

The only reason people want a 16:9 monitor is because the few times they watch a movie they dont like the look of the black bars (seriously, big deal!).
The reality is those black bars are the extra monitor space you do not have for daily activities

The 16:9 ratio also gives a monitor that is less tall so when you are reading you need to scroll more.
Web pages are after all designed to be tall, not wide.

                • @anthony: Imagine what happens when movies are released for sale on DVD and BR in 2.39/2.40 aspect ratio. The fans will be screaming for super wide screens that are more than twice as much wide as they are tall. We'll be forced to choose from machines that all look like the Sony Vaio Pocket.

Its also a bit of a coy in the sense that manufacturers release screens that are still labelled 22 and 24 inch yet they have a smaller overall surface area than earlier models, i hate it

                • @anthony: The dimensions of a 16:10 24" are 20.35x12.72. The height difference is less than an inch….honestly unless you've got em side by side you'll never be able to tell the difference and it'll never really bother you.

                  best way to compare:

            • +4

@jv: it's the other way around mate
16:10's are slowly dying and being replaced by 16:9's
all the monitors at msy are 16:9's and the only notable ones that I can remember are the dell ultrasharp 24" and 30" even their 27" has shifted to 16:9 and I suspect that the 30" will too when the new model comes out.

              • +2

@Trance N Dance: I do agree with you on this….every screen seems to be 16:9 lately.

But personally for me - if using the screen as a computer screen - 16:10 is more for me!!

            • +3

              @jv:

(edit : there are still more 16:9’s but 16:10 numbers are INCREASING)

              No.

16:10 used to be the only option.
Now 16:9 is common and 16:10's are slowly being faded out.

            • +3

              @jv: lol…you mean extra height?

Some people prefer 16:10 over 16:9 because of the extra VERTICAL pixels.

            • @jv: 16:10 has been around for ages, but 16:9 have only started appearing in the last year or so. You have it backwards. 16:10 would far out number 16:9 monitors. 16:9 monitors are the ones increasing market share.

            • -1

@jv: i do doubt if u really know anything about monitors?

              16:10 numbers are increasing?

              quite amusing!

        • +5

16:9 is getting more common. Get your facts straight.

PricesEngine’s after sales service s*cks big time! They dont have any phone numbers, they only have an email which they never reply to!!

    • Have you email to out customer service?

Our customer service have receive 100 of email everyday, and they reply it within 24 hours.

If you have not receive our reply it’s maybe our mail went through your spam mail box otherwise please lel me know.

I will ask our customer service answer your question ASAP.

      • +2

Usually when you phone someone, you get a reply when they pick up the call, so no need to wait 24 hours…

        • +6

If you want this kind of service their products will not be that cheap.

You want cheap and you want immediate service!!!

    • +1

You wouldn't get these prices if they hired staff to answer phones :)

  • Has anyone purchased from PricesEngine before?

    • +1

yes i have multiple times without any problems. Fast delivery as well!

      • +1

        the DELL deals blow Acer

        • +1

I agree… my Dell 24" was less than this with better warranty!

    • When this website gave their first offer(??) (HDMI cable free), Lots of people had problems initially. However, me and my work friends got it once they sorted their stuff.

Since then I've also ordered the LED LG monitor and their customer service response wasn't super fast but they did reply within 48 hrs tops. Delivery was within expected time frame.

Overall, would deal with them again for sure.

  • +1

Agree with billa911. Bought my Samsung HDD more than 10 days ago (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27642), paid by PayPal and not received my HDD yet. Sent an email to their customer service and got no reply. Maybe I am not patient enough?

    • -1

      Thanks let me know that.

It's maybe a misunderstanding here. I have confirm we have receive about 5 email went through our spam mail box.

I have already ask our customer service to follow up those order.

We are sorry for any inconvenience here, we will improve this in the future.

      Thanks for your understanding.

      • I guess your company is Sydney based. I don't understand why it takes more than 10 days to deliver something from Sydney to Sydney (to postcode 2000). I've purchased something on Ebay/DX and all posted from HK in 10-14 days.

        • It's not possible. can you provide the order ID to our customer service. I can find out for you.

          • @minniewu: I did provide my order number in my previous email and am still waiting for reply from PricesEngine. Maybe I should be more patient as my email was sent out yesterday (06 July) afternoon at around 3:31.

            • @zn7726: Maybe you are still in the queue. We are sorry for the wait.

  • Are we definitely able to redeem the cashback if we buy through pricesengine? I know some companies require you to purchase through an authorised dealer in order to get the cashback…

    • We are definitely sure you can redeem your cashback from Acer.

If there is any problem with your cash back redeem, please contact with our customer service. or leave the message on our facebook fas page.

  • mixed reviews…i cannot decide. lol.

  • I just received my LG 23” LED monitor and Samsung 1 TB hard drive from Price Engine yesterday. I think they did a good job in regards with customer service and I’m quite satisfied. So a big plus for me :)

PS: Minniewu, please, please, please have a deal for HD5850 or HD5870

    • +1

We already work on the graphic card deal with our supplier.

      • Then work harder too keep us happy and work on a 5850 or 5870 deal :P

      • Oh that's great news! Any ETA?

        • I think the rep was refering to the 5770 deal

          • @Trance N Dance: Ah I see.
At first I thought they meant 'we're working on another deal with our supplier'.

  • Ok, just bought one :)

  • What day are you selling another hard drive minniewu?

  • +1

Prices Engine, can you please get a phone number set up?
You receive a hundred emails a day, but most of the issues could be resolved with a quick phone call.
I have purchased from you before and had no issues, but I think a phone line would be helpful to many of your customers.
    Just a thought!

    • +3

The reason why we don't have phone number now it's because we don't want our customer waiting on our phone line.

It's waste time and money. and most important thing is you will not happy with waiting on the phone line.

We will figure out a right way and right time to provide some kind of telephone customer service in the future maybe.

    • +1

Email is better than waiting on a phone.

    • +1

Please no phone. Would rather spend 5 minutes writing a email than 50 minutes on hold.

  • +4

How else can they sell stuff at discounted prices for you if they don't shave on line rental?

    • you still paying for line rental?

  • +1

Well, as long as the thing arrives in time to claim the Cashback, that's ok :D

    • Most cash back promo's work off date of purchase, so if you purchased today, it would be able to be redeemed as soon as the invoice came through.

      • This one works on mailing in part of the box within 14 days of purchase. simonk83 is right to be slightly concerned.

  • +1

I bought their LG LCD LED monitor a while back and received that without any problems. Not sure what their after sales support is like but if you want really good service plus good prices - good luck with that. This is the same everywhere. I'd buy from them again.

    • Yep, everyone wants that impossible combination. Its either one or the other

  • What the hell?!
Session expired when confirming the payment… Always does it even after clicking confirm two seconds after the page comes up!!!
    PLEASE FIX IT!!

    • Which browser are you using?

      • firefox and tried chrome as well :(

        • Can you try IE, i have already report to our IT guy. They will figure out the problem.

Thanks for let us know about this.

          • @minniewu: Nevermind Minnie, just successfully ordered then.. I was trying to use the wrong credit card.
Sorry about that and thanks for the quick replies, pleasure doing business :D

    • Perhaps it has something to do with your virus scanner or some internet security in you pc. I am using firefox in Windows and didn't get a session expiry.

  • +4

I think Miniewu is doing a great job on here as far as customer service goes. How often do you see Reps actively answering questions on here? If you want phone set up, go buy elsewhere like MSY, PCCG, or Scorptec and perhaps save yourself the hassles. You could be paying an extra $20 there but we all know where that extra $20 goes towards - overhead cost.

    • +1

uhh…. I doubt setting up a phone line would cost much, especially if you can get it on a VOIP line.
And good luck getting phone service at MSY….

      • +4

exactly. Just because they have a phone line doesnt mean issues will get resolved faster. Msy gets swamped with all sorts of phone calls day and night.

        • +3

I think you can either buy with bargain prices, or you can get great customer service and pay alot more for the item.
Personally I prefer quality items for less, than talking to some guy that doesn't know what he's really doing anyway :)
Besides, Minnie seems to be doing a fine job anyway.
Hooray for having two 24 inch monitors :D

      • +3

If you want to talk to someone call Lifeline.

      • +2

setting a phone line doesn't help if you don't hire people to answer calls (in fact it frustrates callers).

  • ah crap double post and cant delete

  • +1

i think their some products, just like HDD,sold under the cost.please don't complain their service, hope them can play this turn over game for a little long time.

    • +1

Did i expect too much if i hoped something I purchased from a local (same city) seller has not been delivered in more than 10 days? Would you be happy if same thing happened on you?

I agree that minniewu is doing good job here and is trying to sort everything out for everyone, but, where is my HDD : (

      • It's maybe we are waiting for your paypal account verify. Have you verify your paypal account with paypal?

Can you email again now with your OZbargain ID, I can ask them to check. 10 Days it's unacceptable.

        Let me check for you.

      • We found that your paypal status has not been verified by paypal, and we have notified to in the order email that you have to verified your paypal account with paypal otherwise we can not process your order.

That is the reason why you have not receive your HDD. Can you check this for us. then we can arrange your HDD deliver ASAP.

Thanks and sorry for the waiting.

        • Received your email and was explained why my order has not been dispatched. However, you have NOT notified me in "order email" about it (I only have received a "order processed" email), in the email i just received, regarding verified paypal account, your customer service clearly said "We did make a mistake on your order that we did not contact you earlier."

Anyway, I'd like to say your customer service is doing reasonable job, so do you, and I'll be more likely to trust PricesEngine.

          Thanks for your help.

  • got 1 no probs…noticed a 2min countdown final payment page guys…things are improving…

  • +1

Still waiting on the belkin notebook power adapter…

  • As I understand, the monitor has 3 year warranty from Acer. So if i have any problems with it, do I send it to Acer?

    • You can return it to the seller as per trade practice act up to a reasonable period of time (determinable by tribunals court), for a $199 monitor, I'd consider about 2 years to be a reasonable period of time. After that, if the manufacturer is offering more than the 'reasonable' period, go there after the 2 years (rough estimate) has passed.

    • It will be better if you return to Acer.

      Quick and safe.

But if you would like to return to us it's fine.

      • Just a quick question - When do you send the tax invoice to us once we receive the monitor?

        • It is emailed when the monitor has shipped

  • Just ordered one with no problems. Was literally going to buy this model y'day for $227.

    • Mate, its $29… This doesn't deserve a negative rating due to $29.
Regardless of full price or not, this is the cheapest you will find it ANYWHERE.

    • +3

You can neg this deal if you can find this exact monitor for less than $199 with free deliver elsewhere.

    • +3

i got my money back exactly 6 weeks after it was sent out (exactly as promised)

    • +1

      Lol, too much Today Tonight.

    • +1

JasonF is obviously a Dell fanboy - check his comments on other deals.

    • +1

Chasing ? No chasing. Receive item, fill out form, post letter. Wait.

You can't call that chasing. (typed on my Acer laptop that received a $65 cash back, exactly as stated above)

  • The title says X series LCD but the web link point to H series LCD. So which one is correct?

    • Sorry for the link error. This is X series. The link it's wrong one we are change the link now.

      Sorry for the link error.

And thanks for let us know about this.

      • I have changed the link to a PDF file instead, it now points to the X series.

        • so you're the guy who fix it? why don't YOU apply for REP for PricesEngine?

          • @davidl2: I'm a only PricesEngine on OZbargain. And i know know who is scrimshaw????

            Sorry

          • @davidl2: Edit

            Sorry…

I thought it was implied 'scrimshaw' changed the PricesEngine website, and hence was a sockpuppet. But in this case he actually only changed his initial post on OzBargain.

            My bad.

  • I reckon this is a pretty damn good deal!

  • Wish this would be in a few days and not right now ;P Got a nice big tax package coming quite soon!

    • Ah just means you'll have to pay an extra $50ish, still worth it by any means!

  • +2

Nice to see the shipping calculator now accepts numerics for the postcode from the numeric pad - thanks for listening :)

    Ozzie
