Steam Link Plus Steam Controller Bundle $97.00 at EB Games Online (+ around $8.20 Postage) - Also Some Availability in-Store

610

Just stumbled across this on the EB website… Seems to have flown under the OzB radar.

Each item is $89.95 EACH but only another $7.05 for both! (plus postage)

Cheaper than EB's Mad Monday deal of $36 + $63 (see here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/281413 for details and comments on use etc.), and comparable with importing via Amazon.

Postage to metro areas appears to be $8.20 but delivery not expected till 9 Jan.

Also likely that there's some availability in-store as per El Hefe. Might be worth calling around if you want to save postage or want it before 2nd week of Jan.

  • Tempted but really only want controller

    • +1

sell the link to make controller cheaper

  • +8

Nice one. I got mine from Amazon for AUD 60 (30 each).

    • $60AUD in total for both the Steam Link and the Steam Controller?
      No way!

      • +1

        he's got a syndrome

    • same actually, was happy as

      • +2

I got the steam link for 20 USD from Amazon

I saw the controller with a free case for $35

    • Does it come with the controller case?

  • Thanks Poster! I missed out both Cyber Monday and Boxing day!! Ordered!

  • +1

I was in EB yesterday, and they had the same deal in store!

    • That's great to know. When buying on-line it can't identify any stores with stock so you have to opt for delivery. I'll amend the title to reflect this.

    • Are you sure!?!? I called up pretty much half the stores in Melbourne and they didn't have stock of the steam link!!

  • Knox City, Vic had a few in store the other day for any locals who wanna save on postage :)

  • What does this do?

"Play your Steam games on any TV in the house with Steam Link. Setup is easy. Just connect your Steam Link to your TV and home network, where it will automatically discover any computer running Steam. Then grab a controller and play your collection of games from the comfort of your couch."

  • Well in the recent amazon deal it cost my AU$84.29 delivered (which included the US$10 MasterCard rebate) for this bundle with the controller case as well.

Overall not a bad price to get it straightaway.

  • +1

Wish there was a bundle for two controllers

    • +1

I actually haven't used my steam unit much yet. Been too busy with family events. I was a bit meh about the controller though as I found that only a limited number of my steam games were controller compatible.

Will have som more time to play with it when I fly home later this week to give I another go.

      • Damnnnn, guess ill get a white xbone controller instead :(

        • Xbone controller is primitive in comparison.

      • +2

That's the whole point of the Steam controller, you aren't restricted to using it on "controller compatible" games. You can use it in KB/mouse mode.

The controller compatible icon in Steam is for compatibility with standard XBox-style controllers.

Eg I use my Steam controller with Civ V in KB/mouse mode and it's brilliant.

        • How do I use my steam controller in KB mouse mode?

        • @danielh: Steam has comprehensive setting for the controller that allow you to map the trackpad to mouse and mouse button and any button to anything and any combination, so it similar to having keyboard and mouse combined into single controller.

      • @danielh you are completely absurb to not use the controller
once you get used to it, takes a few days to a week it feels much better than anything microsoft have made
liken it to the xbox elite controller at 1/2 the cost for the steam link / controller combo

        • Thanks. I'll give Rainbow Six Siege another go when I get back from my holidays. Could not work out how to shoot with the controller before.

      • +1

This website has configs to make lots of games setup for the steam controller. http://www.steamcontrollerdb.com
The SC has so many buttons its like havng a keyboard in your hand,

  • Actually, current price at Amazon US is US$19.99 for Steam Link and US$34.99 for the controller.
When postage is added it comes to about AUD$99 so the convenience of local stock might make EB the winner (and save ~$2!)

    • ya, warranty and being able ot get it straight away makes it a good deal!

      • +1

Warranty is covered anyway, steam still ships everything globally from the states, either way for the sake of a few dollars probably best to buy it retail
I haven't had a single issue with mine yet but at 60AUD shipped I saved a fortune on it

  • Can I play DotA 2 with it?

    • no reason why you can't
      its fully programable

    • You can hook up a keyboard and mouse (either USB or Bluetooth) and it works just like if you are in front of Your PC.

The one thing I've noticed with Dota and fast paced competitive FPS games is the input lag from the TV. There is some processing done to smooth over the picture on my Samsung tv which causes the lag. I can put it into "game mode" which minimizes the image processing which helps. But if you are use to fast paced gaming in front of a proper monitor you will notice this too.

Having said that, you get use to it after about 30min or so.

    • Good luck

  • Does this work with steam only?

    • +1

      Yes

The controller need to be in Steam Big Picture to work, but you can put non steam games into steam to play it.
I currently playing Black Desert Online in Steam.

  • +3

Since Steam now support PS4 controller as well, and it has the small trackpad, I will recommend anyone with PS4 controller to try using it first.
Yes it cant beat Steam controller in term of functionality and trackpad precision (I am think Steam controller trackpad will be more precise than PS4) but at least its comparable.

    • I've hooked up PS4 controller to steam link via Bluetooth but can't get trackpad to do anything. Any ideas how to make it work through steamlink?

  • At my local EB, they reckon they cannot honor their own online store price for this, so beware I guess.

    • Which store?

My local EB knew about the bundle price and would have honoured it, if they hadn't run out of the steam links.

    • +1

This is not an online only promotion as soon as they scan both products in the transaction it will auto promote to that sale price

  • Cheers OP, bought one. Good find! Merry New Year everyone!

  • Thanks OP! Missed out on the Boxing Day one.
FYI - delivery to WA is $9.80 and delivery 11/1

    Happy New Year!

  • Any ideas when this sale will end? I might try at my local EB tomorrow

  • For those who bought one online for delivery, has anyone's status of the order changed to something that indicates its been shipped?

    • nah still processing here
      edit: just changed to packed

      • Same, estimated delivery date changed from this friday to next monday too.

        • mine was delivered today

  • Seems a little strange, what's stopping people buying these all out and reselling them? Is there laws stopping that or something? Something I would do if I had the money…

    • Makes sense TBH if you only want one of the 2 items. Nicely subsidises the usual price. Ebay/Gumtree is your friend.

  • Is there any need to have more than one of these? or is that being lazy, reason i ask is if then its easy to do co-op gaming or even if people have it set up on different tvs in the house like from the bedroom as well as the Home Theatre room. But then i guess that is a waste really?

    • Still going, I got one from EB Games in Benowa. They took the signage down though.
