        • @lgacb08:

Are you saying Asians can't be journalists.

        • @nightelves: no, I mean they are likely to group journalists with Vietnamese heritage in the same group as political dissidents trying to infiltrate and compromise their revolutionary achievements and be treated very unfavourably.

      • Avoid speaking any Vietnamese at all and maintain your confidence.

  • The return leg is not so cheap depending what time you're flying could end up costing $500+ return. Is it a bargain?.

    • I think its still a bargain because if you fly airlines such as Vietnam Airlines and Cathay Pacific into vietnam its always around $1000.

      • Vietnam Airlines does offer cheaper fare after the Chinese new year, can be bought around 7-800 return and normally inclusive of the Easter school holiday. A lady at work just booked her flight for $780 during Easter, traveling to Japan with transit in SGN, she could stop over SGN for few days in the return leg.

  • anyone know what the change name fee is? thinking of just booking and giving it to my parents if i cant fly. seems to be many different fees on their site… looks like its 75 but not sure.

Can't believe they hiked the prices up within 30 mins on being on sale, what a load of bs

    • +3

Cheap seats work in buckets. Only a set number of seats per flight are allocated to a particular price band. Once those seats go, the price goes up as the next available price band of seats is made available. It's not based on length of sale.

  • About an hour ago I had a look and could browse any dates and there were plenty of $159 each way. Now it's just the spinning wheel :-(
Hopefully the site comes good soon. Thanks OP.

just booked for the whole family :) 3 weeks .. now gotta figure out what i wanna do .. probably just fly to some other resorts in vn .. any recommendations? i've been around the country already and dont really want to do all that touristy stuff again :)

    159 each way X 6.

    • Did you get the spinning wheel? Mines been spinning for an hour or more. Any tricks?

      • nah it just worked .. you look for the cheapest fair .. then it will have the bar chart up telling you the days which are 159 .. and just select those dates.

all the direct flights are at the same time anyways .. the return flight will be a bit hard at 2am .. but its direct 9 hour flight so that makes up for it.

        • Thanks yeah that's what I had before but I can't get past the spinning wheel now. Got a leave pass and so does a mate damn it.

          @f1ng3rs:
book first .. ask for leave after :)

        • @hippyhippy:

I always do :-) Still can't get past the spinning wheel!!!

        • @f1ng3rs: try different machine.. i had absolutely no issues.

        • @hippyhippy:

Tried it an tried from another IP as well.

          All I get is:

Lots of people are trying to get one of our great sale fares at the moment! Please hold on. We’ll get to you soon.

        • @hippyhippy:

All my browser windows just began to work. All booked!!!

    • I highly recommend Hyatt in Da Nang. Beautiful resort.

    • Third time lucky. Thought I missed the deal altogether. Also going with family and trying to figure out what to do/see.
Did you have an option to prepay for a meal during booking?

      • It was like 24 bucks per meal.. per person.

        • Thanks for letting me know. I didn't get an option to purchase during booking and when I called them and they said $24, I thought they were doing a rort. I wonder what is actually included in that meal….

    • Try Cat Ba Island, Da Lat, or the Con Dao Islands.

  • use your iphone and download the jetstar app. Use 4G instead of Wifi - I booked first go, 997.49 returned

    • Yep, definitely use phone to book. I couldn't load the site on pc but had no problem with mobile site.

for anyone interested in history, HCMC was formerly known as Saigon but when the communists came in, they changed it to HCMC to enforce the acceptance of the reality that the north had 'won' and to honour their commie leader HCM.

    • Funny how the international airport 3-letter code (IATA) is still "SGN". The Charlies ain't done jack but damage to the South.

    • +2

but locally, vietnamese people there still refer to HCMC as Saigon

      • +1

        Of course Saigon forever :)

Sale extended to 23 Jan , OP

    • Same sale but different prices, 20% more expensive thus expired.

  • I was still able to book the $159 flights. Just need to move my depart date 2 days with the $159 still available. If the $159 is not available, the $259 price is still okay in my opinion.

Could someone recommend a local tour agent where I can book tours around vietnam with reasonable prices. I tried a couple of travel agencies and I was quoted around AU$3,200 for an 8 day tour.

    • Don't worry about getting ripped in Vietnam with those prices.

Why book local, you're going to be paying a middle man for nothing. Book via the hotel if you want a "front". However plenty of tour providers have their own TripAdvisor listings.

    • Definitely do not recommend an agent. Did that before and it sucked. They try to book the tours which make them the most money. It's worth it to do your own research.. trip advisor is good place to start.

never fly with Viet Nam airline. Flight attendant are totally unfriendly.
