For those who mentioned back problems:-

I bought the Buro Metro Task Chair: http://www.staples.com.au/main-catalogue-productdetail/buro-…
(Its been on special a few times, search OzB)

It's $299, more expensive than the Aldi one, less expensive than a Herman Miller.

Great to sit on if you have back issues.

  • Bought one last time around, most uncomfortable chair I have ever sat on, it pushes you forward, build quality is OK, but comfort for extended period is ver poor

  • If you're petite, this is a decent chair for the price. If your favourite OzBargain cat is dining-takeaway, maybe try something else…

  • Decent chair for the price, bought one last time. Not much foam, but still a much better option than most, if not all PU leather chairs that cost a minimum of double this and have the fabric wear out ridiculously quickly.

Imo either get something like this or jump up to something decent like a Buro Metro, don't bother with PU leather chairs.

  • would any of you that already own this chair help a brother out by measuring the distance between the floor and top of arm rests?

I just want to make sure it will neatly tuck underneath my computer desk before I buy it.

    Thank you

    • Sorry, I don't have a good relationship with my brother.

      • Did he fart on your chair and now the smell won't go away?

Because, if so, then that's the exact same reason I'm looking for a new chair!

Just a heads up: picked this up today at my local even though it's supposed to start tomorrow.

    • How high's the seat at full height? My current chair is a bit short and since Aldi hasn't published the height of the seat I'm not sure whether I will be wasting my money if it's just going to have a tall backrest

      • Sorry, it's not for me and it won't be put together for a couple of days.

    • how big is the box? will fit in standard sedan?

I'd say it's approx 60x60x30, you should have no problems.

Picked one up this morning the the Gladesville NSW store - plenty left.

    My initial thoughts:
    - The person who wrote the assembly instructions should be shot - put the arms on first before the base otherwise the lever gets in the way
    - As others have said, the base is small and half my thighs are hanging off the seat (mind you I'm 6'2"). Depth of base is approx 45cm, but the useable area is about 5cm less given you dont/cant sit right in the corner.
    - Padding seems soft and comfortable enough, but dont know how it will hold up over time.
    - For $50, its far from perfect but I'll be keeping this as its much better than the 10 year old chair that its replacing. Given I have a sore back, the lumbar support is great given my old chair doesnt have this.
    - I was looking to buy a Buro Metro II but they are not on sale and the cheapest I could find is $364. I figured if I wait for this to go on special (previously for $250), then I would still be ahead and have and extra chair aswell.

box is roughly 1m x 1m x 40cm, about 5-10 on display at north sydney

    • Thanks mate.

  • The armrests are so low as to be useless, unless you are especially small (e.g. an average Guangdong female Chinese). And not adjustable.
They provide no support for my shoulders, and the biggest reason for getting this was the lack of armrests on my old chair :-(
On the Mrs, they are about 5cm too low .

Maybe I could put some thick padding on top of the armrests. Any ideas??

Otherwise seems good. I like the lumbar support. The high back serves no function except to grab to pull the chair out.

BTW, for those asking about fitting the armrests under your desk: in use, the armrests should be a little higher than the desk, but you can just pull the lever to lower the seat before getting up, and it will then slide under the desk easily.

    • Was that a referral link? Oh may be from the site I got to Amazon had referral link. Sorry dint know..

picked up the chair today. i like it a lot. i didnt need the armrests so didnt attach them. a bit disappointed that back angle is not adjustable but hey its $50.

  • Picked mine up at Fountain Gate this afternoon and there were still 2 pallets full available. Casey Central didn't have any but didn't ask if there were any out back.

  • Does Aldi have an assembled chair on display to try, or everything is in a box and you have to take it home to find out if it's comfortable for your size and body? Some of the comments here already suggest arm-rest issues, and others point out the chair leaning backwards etc. It is gonna suck if you take one home, assemble it and only to find out it's uncomfortable as hell.

    • not available to try in 3 different Aldis I have been to in last 3-4 days..

      • Hmm! That's kinda problematic. I was thinking to visit my closest store here, but I am not sure if I am comfortable to buy a chair without trying it in store.

        • +1

I know - if you dont like it - you will waste 40 minutes assembling and 20 minutes taking it apart + store return time. given that you get full refund within 60 days.
But its not bad, it is alright - just assembled yesterday - have not had any long sessions yet but it feels okay.

        • @superm86: Wasn't aware of their 60 days return policy (I have never bought anything from Aldi before, as their closest store in my area has been opened only late last year), so I might take a chance on it.

PS: How tall are you? And did you have any issues with the armrests? I ask that because I am 6ft tall (and a fat-ass lol), and a few members were saying that the armrests are lower in these chairs.

@AussieDaddy: I was thinking of putting a bit detailed feedback tonight after I use it a bit; but here's a pre-use.

          I am 5'6 and ~65 to 70kg
Seat depth is enough for me, I can imagine why 6+ft did have problem.
Also the height of arm rest is fine for me I guess (again I will have to use it a bit to be able to confirm). But they are not padded or anything - so I might look into padding it myself if not comfortable.
You can adjust the tilt of the chair, but angle between seat and back does not change.
Lumbar support is good and you can adjust how far in or further away you want it; you can not change its height though.

Assembly time: For one person, took around 40 minutes while watching one of the episodes of Homeland!
Assemble is not difficult but like someone suggested earlier put the arms on (if you want to put them on) before the base (I did not, and it was a bit inconvenient).
Wheels and gas lift seems fine.
Only tool required is Allen key (provided).

@superm86: Cool! That's a very detailed feedback as you have covered all the questions I had about the chair. Thanks

  • If these are anything like the previous models they had for 50 bucks, I would avoid.

Noisy and shite quality padding are the 2 biggest culprits.

  • My recommendation, after much research, for a reasonably prices office chair is the Ikea MARKUS. Very comfortable with excellent lower back support. It's sturdy and well-built and good value at $249-349 (depending on covering material). They sometimes are on sale and I got mine for $199
