After getting the coupon, probably close the site and remove cookies, then visit it through cashrewards. Not all hotel websites honour cashback when you use a coupon, but last time Expedia did for me, resulting in an extra 5.54% cashback on top of the 10% discount coupon I used.

Awesome! Thx for the tip - saved $100 through Expedia and $40 extra with cashrewards :)

Thank you. The procedural instruction are very helpful to the community.

  • Just tried this on two hotels I am looking at booking and received the same error for both: "Sorry, your hotel isn't covered by this coupon offer."

    • Check the terms (where you put you email address in) has many hotel chains listed as not covered by the deal.

  • Do you have to pay with Mastercard as well after you've got the coupon?

    • +1

yes. Note that Qantas FF Cash card is a Mastercard, in case anyone has it.

      • do you have to pay with the same mastercard?

  • +3

Check out Orbitz. Get 15% off plus upto 7% cashback from ebates.

    • Is there a current & valid Orbitz code?

      • +1

TAKEMEAWAY - EDIT: Sorry expired on the 6th

        • Just tried, still valid at time of replying.

  • Has anyone priced matched with Expedia before after using a coupon?

    Booking.com $124 (Advertised Price)
    Expedia.com $139
    - 12% $122.42

    Same room, dates, T&C etc

I cant price match online because the Expedia price is now lower by $1.58 after a 12% coupon :/
I was under the impression they would price match the advertised price not the price after a personal coupon code.

    • you should call them up and price match.

  • Does this make it cheaper than cheapticket and 16% off?

  • +2

nice .. unfortunately agoda and others are usually cheaper than expedia :(

    • -1

Direct hotel websites are usually cheaper than all of them… (especially when no coupon is available)

    • After the 12% discount my desired hotel was roughly the same price as booking.com. If you take 5.5% cashrewards into account it would definitely be cheaper, but as "Make it so" posted, some hotels don't do cashbacks on coupon deals.

      • Yeah it really depends on your individual booking. I've booked from Agoda and it's been cheaper, but likewise I've booked on booking.com and expedia for the cheaper rate.

In this case I cancelled by booking.com and rebooked at expedia because the deal made it significantly cheaper!

  • Where do I enter the code?

    • When you enter your details to perform the reservation.

      • Could you please help… I'm not seeing where the box is for the code :(

Edit! Nevermind, you have to choose to pay now.

  • I had two hotels booked but not paid until April, so when I get to the hotel and pay via Mastercard after activating this deal will I get the discount?

    • Most likely you'd have to pay on the website to get the discount. When paying at the hotel you're paying directly to the hotel, not Expedia.

    • No you need to pay now which then lets you use the code.

  • +2

CheapTickets usually has a running 16% code.
This week the code is CHEERS.
    (In $USD)

  • +2

So cheaptickets are still cheaper with the 16% yet it gets less + votes…. sometimes I just dunno how ozbargain works.

    • agree. this is 12% off excluding taxes, which in various parts of the world can be 15-20% of the price.
As an example, last week there was a 12% off webjet code, which is 12% off the final price (~approx 2% better than this code for Asian hotels I'm looking at), yet didn't even get a mention.
This deal has advantage of duration, and not short term like most codes are.

      • +1

well cheaptickets practically has 16% every month, it used to be 18% last year… so I can't see any incentive buying from expedia.

        • Same company, funnily enough. Orbitz + Cheaptickets + Expedia + Wotif + Lastminute = Expedia Group

There are basically 2 or 3 companies that run the hotel booking seem. Try to always compare with smaller groups like LMT Club.

  • What I noticed about Expedia for hotels is they are usually more expensive than Agoda.
When I compared same room, same dates and at same hotel, the 15% off will work out to be almost identical as Agoda.

Tried to book a hotel with Expedia the other day using AmEx 10% discount code. The code worked but my booking wasn't being accepted so I tried using the Expedia mobile app. The rate was cheaper using the app over the website (9% mobile app discount), plus I could stack the 10% AmEx code too in the app. Saved over $100 on the booking.
So be sure to check your hotel in the mobile app before you book via the website!

  • These codes are really easy to generate if you know the Mastercard CC format. Message me if you want a code.

  • just tried applying code and the website says

Sorry, your hotel isn't covered by this coupon offer.

Am i putting the code in the right place?

    • -3

Try the code at the hotel reception desk.

    • There's whole list of hotels and hotel chains that are excluded from this deal

  • Expedia is a bit dodgy i find, they give you different prices if search from a different computer

  • Still cheaper on Agoda and hotel.com for the hotels I'm looking at in bali

  • thx. just saved myself about extra 5 bucks cancel my previous 10% amex booking and re book with this 12% mastercard one. !

  • I've just tried using the coupon code for the hotel i'm looking at in Vienna and it worked. Got 12% discount.
I wish this offer came out last week.. cos I've just booked a bunch over the weekend. :(

    • They've had various card deals for months now, you just needed to google your card provider and expedia.

    • See if the the hotels have free cancellation policies - you can cancel and rebook, or rebook first and then cancel the old ones in case you are worried of the rooms suddenly selling out.

  • Thanks OP! Saved $52.22 off what was already the cheapest price online.

Hotel was Attitude on Granville in Hong Kong.

Let's see if Cash Rewards works ;-)

    Cheers!

  • Alas, no go for Sofitel in Melbourne

  • How do you get the codes?

I signed up, added my mastercard and alas no code to be found on their website nor emailed to me.

    Edit

    Gah, found it.

Click in a special link first.

  • How come I keep getting: Sorry, there was a problem with your coupon, so we removed it.

When it says that my hotel is eligible for the promo (applying code works but it keeps giving me this error when i confirm to pay)

My hotel is also not in the list of exclusions D:

    • You must pay with Mastercard. Paypal or other type CC's are not acceptable and will throw up this type of error message.

  • Just used the expedia app with the 9% off plus Amex - def worked out cheaper than cash rewards
    - although I note that on a second booking the price in the app was the same as the website!

  • anyone successful with price match and then apply this coupon?

  • you just saved me $235

    Thank you :)

  • Hey guys, I kept having issues with this. When I tried to use the coupon, I kept getting "Please enter a valid coupon code." Has anyone had any issues? Thanks

  • I keep getting 'there is some error while retrieving the coupons.' Anyone else have that problem? Have tried two cards already

    • I have the same error message :(

  • anyone can advise how the price match works in expedia please?

  • Expired? Sorry but this isn't a known voucher code.

  • Okay I do not understand how to get the Mastercard coupon? I clicked the above links but none of them give me the options to enter my first 6 digits number.

And I couldn't find the coupon box during checkout? Am I missing something?
