  • Also at Rays outdoor @$999

    • Come on.
Who here would pay $999 for a product you can get for $998.😉

    • +3

It's because of the Rays deal that Anaconda have done this. Stops them from having to do the 10% price beat.

      • Does that mean rays will have to do the price beat? Race to the bottom.

        • +2

No, RAYS, BCF and all other will price match, not price beat.

  • Thanks for posting, I meant to do it yesterday when I saw it.

    Or $140 60L litre mini bar fridge + $99 500Watt inverter

    • +3

The power waste would be significant and require much more power supply such as batteries which arent cheap, and/or a bigger charging system, and that brings weight. Not to mention that a domestic house fridge compressor is not made to be bounced about which is what these fridges are for.

Another issue is will a 500w inverter start the fridge. Its fine to say its 80w or whatever when it settles after start, but its a shed load higher to start the compressor. Im not even going to get into the cleanliness of the current from a $99 inverter.

Other than that, pearler of an idea. Maybe fit a Hyclone to the fridge and another to the inverter. Should improve it by 20% each.

      • Also a bar fridge is far heavier and its not a chest fridge/freezer.

    • Sorry you can't compare a mini bar fridge with a portable freezer. The only thing in common is that they can cool food. The rest is very different.

The "Waeco CF 40 Fridge Freezer" is also on sale for $559.99.

    • CF range is on a much lower lever to the CFX range.

      • I want to know more. What are the actual differences apart from the size?

        • +1

The CF models have the Danfos compressors. Well known and reliable units. They're the industry standard.
CFX are the newer model with a Waeco compressor. New technology so yet to be proven. They are more economical though than the Danfos and the Engel compressor.
On the other hand there are people who have had a portable Engelfor over 30 years and it still runs like clockwork.

        • +1

I seem to recall Waeco reasoning was Danfoss started making compressors in China, and they are concerned over the future of Danfoss reputation. How true it is who knows. But some CFs were reputed to be awfully unreliable and the grounds of the Waeco reputation being damaged, while early CFs were great. It might be connected.

I have a CF40 which I got for under $500 with cover from Anaconda (thanks OzBargain), so far its fine. Lid hinge is the next difference I recall. And I can see it if you stuff the fridge, and then kids try to force the cf closed or slam it shut and dont ease pressure on the locking mech. The CFX looks like a better lid design, but I havent had an issue.

          @Boulders:
More eco than Engels Sawafuji, sure about that?

          I remember that deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/262834.
I mentioned it to the misses that I thought it was a good idea to get one (she would be the main user of it) and it was a great price and she said don’t bother. I was annoyed later that I missed it. But that proved to be ok as I jumped on the recent CFX-40 with cover deal and got that for $676.88.

        • @snuke: Was that the price beat Rays at Anaconda deal? I missed the price beat procrastinating if the CFX was any better in reality to the CF so passed. But Ive kind of wondered since if I didnt miss an opportunity, less wonder after today lol. Cheers for that heads up.

          This deal - Waeco CFX40 Fridge/Freezer $749 w/Free Cover- https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/289268
I got BCF to price match, purchased BCF gift cards and Woolies with Woolies eGift cards at 5% off via cashrewards, plus I got 5% off the BCF gift cards thanks to family Woolies staff discount.

        • @snuke: Yeah that was the one, I had the Anaconda page open and they had not put the price down at the time so i could have got them to price beat.

Still should have anyway, one for fridge, one freezer and then Id have redundancy if one fails. Im still kind of eyeing off an Evakool.

While I don't have this exact model, I've had the 50L for 5 years. They're very well made units, and I've never had any issues with mine. It's reliable, and it does a great job. Would happily recommend this generation of Waeco fridge / freezers to anyone.

  • Due to the separator that separates the fridge and the freezer, the volume is substantially reduced compared to fridge only model. Check out the pdf user manual that compares the models.

    • Although you can take the divider out and let it operate as a fridge only can't you?

      • Yes you can, you lose approximately 4L of capacity due to the divider.

  • Bought one. Thanks OP.

Although got me wondering if they're discounting the line to make way for the new range?

Yep, for the 2017 range, but other then cosmetic/lid hinge change and wifi being added to several models they are identical.

  • I just bought this on Thursday. They're on sale because there's a new 2017 model out (which the salesman told me its only cosmetic)
Had planned to get the CFX-50 but this was cheaper and now i kinda regret it.
    - The current draw is Twice as much as the 50L
    - They both have a similar footprint but the 65DZ is super tall and cant open fully in my boot whilst the 50L can.
    - using it as a fridge and freezer combo, the temp displays only the freezer temperature. I'm finding drinks in the middle section (fridge) are frozen whilst drinks on the other end are not cold enough, whilst the freezer section is freezing as it should be.
but to have cold beer and ice cream simultaneously when i'm camping, is the only reason i'm not returning it.

    • Takes a little while to work out what temp to set it at to get the temp right across both sections, ive found -11c keeps the freezer frozen and stays at 3-4c on the fridge side.

As for power usage, if you ran it as a fridge only the consumption would be very similar/same since they use an identical motor/compressor unit.

I borrowed my mates 65dz (which is why I have been keeping on eye out for a good deal), I have a 150ah battery and had plenty of power left in the morning, fully charged by mid-morning.

Had it running as fridge freezer and same as Mattdamon, once I had the temperature right (lucky my mate had it already figured out, as he had it for a few years) the fridge was staying cold and the freezer was keeping things frozen. Nothing in the fridge froze.

Also you need to be sure to pack it correctly, can't just go dumping stuff in like you would a normal fridge at home.
