Nintendo Switch Console - $439.99 @ Costco (Membership Req.)

2240

Hey Guys,
First time posting, went with a friend who is a Costco member to the Docklands store,
They were selling the Nintendo Switch for $439,
which is by far the cheapest I have seen it,
Only downside is that you must be a Costco member and that member must pay.

    Man that's a great price!

    • +2

I know right! Was beyond stoked!

      • +3

Bought mine from EB as I was trading in my PS4 … If I wasn't, I'd definitely get it from Costco!

        • +24

          Trading a ps4 for a switch, why?

        • +4

          @unifex:
Doubt it, I got the Nintendo Switch and it's ****ing amazing, prices won't probably drop for a while. At least not that severely.

        • +4

          @Elnato:

Maybe they like potential Switch exclusives more so than PS4 ones? Or perhaps the portability of it, which can't be done with a PS4?

        • +5

          @Elnato:
Maybe because the latter has/will have a library of exclusive games that are worthwhile while the ps4 is a poor man's ps4 pro, and the ps4 pro is a poor man's pc?

        • +2

@Wootwootwoot: exactly why I don't buy PlayStations or Xbox, they don't even try and innovate. They're just putting out cheap PC's. I'd rather just buy a new GPU. I'm really loving the switch so far, much better than my Wii u.

        • +3

@Wootwootwoot: Yes, the console you like is better than the other consoles other people like. Just stop.

        • +1

@Wootwootwoot: I disagree that consoles are poor people's PCs. Many people have consoles to compliment PCs. PS4 has games from Naughty Dog which are all pretty much universally acclaimed: Uncharted Series, The Last of Us, RDR seems to also be a console only IP, so having a more expensive PC won't work there. I only buy titles that I know the PC port is high quality on, like Doom. Having a Nintendo console is a totally different ball game as Nintendo are debatably the best game studio with some of the best IPs, all of which are exclusives.

        • +1

@no not me: People have consoles because they are sick of all the problems PC's have. (Eg incompatibility, bugs between platforms, trying to install apps, viruses, etc…) a Console you can buy a PS4 game and know its going to work.

        • @unifex: Depends on owner and OS choice also the "Budget" every year willingly to spend.

        • @unifex: At 23fps..

        • -3

          @FatBlanket:

You are not seeing the big picture. The consoles hardware themselves might not be innovating but holistically the console exclusive games just keeps getting better in quality and Sony or MS works directly with game developers to make the contents great. A good example is RE7 on PSVR. This is probably the single greatest VR success till date. On PC, Valve distributes contents. You then have Oculus and Hive which are still trying to figure out what to do with their tech and every other PC game developer doing their own thing. There are also so many combinations of hardware to optimise contents for. There is no synergy and cohesive direction which is one major pitfall for the PC platform.

The Switch is no doubt interesting and innovative, but the Nintendo tend to focus more on 1st party development (based on past track record). They need to get more 3rd party developers on board to make great content to drive sales.

        • +1

@dlovep: Really only one choice of OS. Mac has few games compared to the PC
and the budget has to be significantly more than a console to get the good graphics.

(Btw I own every console, except the switch and have a gaming PC and several macs or that matter so I have no axe to grind)

        • @unifex: You own every console ? bet you don't have the game and watches series, 3DO ? Sega Saturn ? lol

        • +1

@dlovep: Yeah i do actually own both of those. i have over 50 consoles. Im a collector. But I don't own a few annoyingly hard to get ones like the "Nintendo Playstation" or the very first one. i definitely own every one from the modern era.

        • @unifex: I still kept my game and watches Ninja popup 2 players one, just the battery cover fly off years ago because of cheap battery exploded. Nice to have space to keep your collection.

        • @dlovep: That is a total nightmare
I ended up buy bucket loads of plastic tubs and storing them against the wall in my garage. I kept the media stuff inside but the rest is in the garage.
ive got one game and watch which is in prestine condition (Donkey Kong) they are so sort after now its crazy.

        • @no not me: Exactly, I am a PC Gamer, but we own a PS3 just to play Red Dead Redemption, and we pretty much bought the PS4 for Kingdom Hearts. In order to play the full library of awesome games already out there, you will need a PC and at least a Xbone or PS4 and a WiiU or Switch. Having a N64 tucked away is always good for amazing small kiddies and 80's adults alike.

        • @stormii: Yep. N64 and actually most Nintendo consoles are awesome for social gaming (in person).

You can break out Mario Kart, Mario Party, Smash, etc. and have a great time with friends. Even the PS4 has some great exclusives and awesome developers, however, my personal favourites on the PS4 are single player titles.

Games like The Legend of Zelda are just amazing. I must have spent hundreds of hours playing them, especially Ocarina of Time, when I was 5-6.

Don't get me wrong, PC gaming is simply a beautiful experience, visually and a fun one for online games. But games like RDR are really too good to pass up and that why you need a console.

Even if I didn't own a PS4 or Xbox One, I'd definitely grab a Nintendo console. They have the most exclusives and they're probably the publisher and studio with the most amazing track record.

        • @unifex: Good to hear that, I might need to buy a 3D printer to print the cover back, that's my only chance.

        • how much was it after trading in your ps4?

        • @FatBlanket:

Time will tell, but yeah, its quite good at the moment. Motion controllers and HD rumble are nice. 1 2 Switch and having a screen seperate from the controllers is awesome.

          Bomberman return is welcome too.

        • @Elnato: I guess you could say he was making a switch…. yeah!

    • +2

Just buy the membership purchase the switch and then instantly refund your membership and wolla no need to waste on membership!

      • But you won't be able to contact them for warranty though, as far as I heard, Costco warranty is great

    • -1

Its a Neat Console, its lit. Im just hoping the next Xbox has a Switch version. I would love to be able to play Fable 4 in a tabletop mode then switch to tv or handheld. Its neat.

  • +1

    Nice find!

    • +7

buy and refund membership same day - easy

      • +1

the downside is apparently you can't become a member again for 2yrs if you cancel.

        • -1

          Oh no, life is hard!

        • @Diji1: means No More Deals For You!

    • If you already have a membership, or know someone that does, then yes they are. They are not the same as price matches however

      • Don't even need to meet that criteria. Membership can be cancelled and refunded at any time, so you can join walking in and cancel walking out if you so choose.

    • I'm a member and didn't know about this, one of the things with Costco is you don't really get notified with what they have and at what price.

      • +2

and that gets customers to go back to see what specials they might have in the chance they miss out on a great bargain like the one their friend/neighbour/colleague grabbed

      • They do have a coupons section on their home page, not much I know, but it is a list of special prices for the fortnight.

    • +2

Costco memberships are worth it IMO.

  • +3

Good deal mate, especially if you have/know someone with Costco membership. Get the console from here and the Zelda game at Big W for $75 for a total cost of $514, a $5 saving over the Big W bundle. I wonder if Big W/JB/EB would price match the console?

  • +17

Disappointed the receipt doesn't have any delicious Costco salmon on it

    • +3

      Right? Their salmon is amazing!

    • Try the fresh ocean trout instead next time. Smokes up beautifully

    • +2

Or Maple Syrup! That shit is amazing.

    • +1

What makes their salmon stand out? Never tried it before.

    • Buy a big slab of brisket. Smoke it for 12-15 hours and feed a family of 20!

    • +16

Wii is worth about $20 second hand, not $200.
Have you played the Switch? It only came out today.

        • +3

          Haha. Another narrow minded troll.

  • +3

how much are games at Costco? do they have zelda for both the switch and wiiU?

  • +11

It's not a switch, it's a "swicth". Cheap Chinese knockoff maybe?

    • Great pickup! :)

    • +2

They misspelt it for 1-2 switch as well. The same person must have added the console and games and not been able to spell "switch"

    • hahaha, good find man, happy to say it's the real thing!

    • -2

      Dji used to be a Swicth in drone market while GoPro was the switch;

      Now Dji is a famous brand, keeps making new models while GoPro has quitted drone market;

Swicth can be a switch one day.

      • -2

        Er … wut?

      • Dji WAS the Swicth thinking not now anyway much

  • Winning! Would pick up here if I didn't have Westfield vouchers to spend

    • +3

FYI, if u r talking westfield gifecard (red card) they can be used as EFTPOS card EVERYWHERE. (yes, they said westfield only but in real u can used everywhere )

      • No kidding?! Good to know! Thanks

  • What is the RRP out there now? how much bargain?

    • RRP is $469.95

      • +3

        Will wait till Christmas… lol

        • +17

Knowing Nintendo.. will be RRP 2 years later

        • +13

          @SevenSmurfs:

Knowing Nintendo… it could be RIP 2 year later? :P

    • +1

The RRP is a sales device that manipulates you into seeing value where you would not have before and it achieves this effect automatically and unconsciously ie. there is no defense other than avoiding it.

    • This is pretty much what the RRP should be if you convert the USD RRP to AUD without Australia Tax added on top of the GST.

  • so cheap for Switch, but I would like to buy PS4, any deals for PS4 at Costco at the moment?

    • +2

it takes just as much effort to check for yourself but the answer is no.

not on special, would recommend looking at the consoles area of this very site.

      • just found one on this site, bigw, 389AUD for PS4 Slim 1TB, with uncharted 4.

        • +2

yep wouldn't hesitate pulling the trigger on that

  • Whats stock look like? Also how much are games?

    • +1

They had three left after we bought the two. We got the black console. Didn't ask about the other coloured controller one.

        • +9

enjoy your trip to neg city!

        • +4

To make what, $15 profit at the most? Not worth the hassle at all. People are not going to pay RRP on Gumtree.

        • -4

          @carwashhair:

Trying to get the troll badge. Negs all welcome.

    • +3

Two of the games are on the receipt provided up top for starters.

      • -1

Fun games. Harambe simulator in 1 2 Switch is off the chain.

    • Receipt image they posted up top says Zelda is $76

  • Just left north lakes, appeared to be plenty of stock.

  • +2

Sold out at Docklands - got the last one :)

    • +4

      so it was you huh

      • Let's get 'im!

  • Good price but not interested. I'm fine with my 3DS XL. Actually recently I like their smartphone games more. No need to spend more on consoles.

    • 3ds only has up to majoras mask

    • +3

I agree except smart phone games are shit and the switch is bloody amazing and I'm having so much fun playing Zelda right now and smart phone games make me want to vomit.

      • Lol, basically 'I agree but NAH'

  • +1

    Sold out at Ringwood
