        this ones actually real

      • NVMe vs SATA. These are 3200MB/s opposed to ~500MB/s on SATA.

The jump in speed isn't an insane difference over a normal SSD (not like HDD to SSD differences), but it's noticable. It more just guarantees your storage is never a bottleneck, even with 10gbps networking, high-speed USB devices, etc etc.

        • +2

you dont see a change with normal usage though, NVMe and SATA3 boot drives usually have the exact same performance, sometimes the NVMe is slower due to how the Mobo gets SATA priority.

  • Thinking about buying a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 to replace huawei hg659 on TPG. It this possible? I cant even use getflix rightnow.

    • I'm with tpg and have the same router… i beleive the R7000 doesnt have vdsl/adsl modem so you'd have to use the huawei as your modem and bridge the connection, the whirlpool forum is full of how to's on this. If you want just one router and dont need home phone you can use the D7000, (which i have but haven't tested with the connection yet) … In saying that i'm assuming you have FTTN and using copper to the premise.

      • I am with TPG and have a home phone so can't I use the D7000? Or that's just for a naked internet, or whatever they call it?

        • yeh you can on ADSL i had ADSL/Home phone with tpg and used the D7000 good wireless good coverage … however tpg changed to NBN in my area which works differently

        • @scud70: Thanks.

    • You probably need the D7000 if you're on ADSL or FTTN (VDSL).

    • Get the Asus AC68 if your internet exchange is close.

    • FWIW, I bought the Linksys EA9200 from futu online for $196 after discount.

After some quick checking with competitors on ebay, shopping-express-clearance jacked the price up from their usual $210 to be $1 under futu online's normal price of $245… so a big FU to shopping-express-clearance.

    • Hey all,

For what it's worth, I thought I'd share some text from one of my previous replies…

I borrowed a mates R7000 and was disappointed by the laggy web interface. The router in general and the wifi range was fine but everything just felt a bit too slow.

Was initially looking at the Asus AC66U but in the end grabbed an Asus AC88U at the last 20% ebay sale. Obviously a very different price point but I am really happy with the performance and functionality of the AC88U!

The primary reason I went for the Asus in the end was Merlin's third party DDWRT based firmware. It has one feature I have been looking for in a mid-range router - Per device DNS settings. With the additional features that have been added to the Merlin third party firmware, I have set up OpenDNS Family DNS servers as the default DNS service for all devices on my network. That means the kids have a level of standard protection when surfing the net on any connected device regardless of device type or operating system (its all centrally managed at the router). Of course, I have exceptions for the grown ups computers to allow unrestricted internet access.

  • If I purchase off ebay can I claim the tax at the airport?

    • +2

Only if they provide a Tax Invoice with their ABN and GST portion clearly stated. And if it is over $1000 your name and address must be listed as well. Min spend is $300

      • Thanks!

    • Yes you can.
Did it for a camera last year from Ted's. They will give you an invoice for the full price too.

  • Has anyone ordered from Futuregear before?
I'm looking at purchasing a motherboard from them and would like to know people's thoughts.

It ends up being quite a bit cheaper than Australian retailers and they actually have it in stock while everyone else hasn't got it yet.

    Thanks!

    • I bought a motherboard from them a week ago, shipping was pretty fast and the stock interestingly came from Victoria.

      • Ooo that's awesome news!

I'm hoping it arrives this week because I want to build it on the weekend.. I guess I will take the gamble (once they confirm they do have stock).
        Thank you!
