Since it's coming from China it's likely going to be fake like the Goophone or a refurb made up of non-genuine parts.

      • yeah ok thanks mate, seems about right

  • Thanks op
Just grabbed a lens and camera. Been waiting for a sale that included Ted's.

    • hey, which one did you get? so guess the price was not jacked up.

      • +1

I got the fuji x-t2 for $1770 delivered. They already had it reduced by $100 so an extra 20%off was icing on the cake.

Also the Nikon 70-200mm FL for $2729 cheapest for Australian stock is from Georges camera in Sydney which are selling it for $3059 so a good saving delivered.

        • Awesome.

Currently working on building a tracker to make it easy to report these scumbags to ACCC, enough is enough. Was looking at purchasing the Asus RT-AC68U from Pc Byte. In anticipation for the inevitable 20% sale I did the math, it was going to cost $194. It's now $215 with discount..

    • +1

I got mine for $185 with the 20% ebay discount last year.

The ACCC WILL do something. It's false/misleading, simple.

The ACCC WILL do something. It's false/misleading, simple.

No they won't, that is one retailer.

Have you given any thought to the amount of data that needs to be collected, the method of collection, the accuracy of the data collection including every price change and the list goes on. This will need to be done for every retailer who does or could participate. In this sale there are 108,192 products.

Not to mention ebay will stop your data collection by blocking your attempts making the effort meaningless.

        • +2

@Maverick-au: 3 Products was enough to undo Kogan, you could easily do this manually. Prices don't change frequently on eBay, unless it's a company doing their own sales (GoodGuys etc.). 3 samples of a pre-sale price, "sale" price and a post-sale price is all that would be required to show they've mislead people during the "20% off sale".

An excerpt from the report I linked: "Before or at the start of the promotion, Kogan increased the prices of the three computer monitors featured on its eBay store. As a result, although consumers received a 20% discount off the newly increased prices, they in fact only received a 9% discount off the previously advertised prices for each of the three computer monitors.

Shortly after the promotion ended and the 20% discount offer ceased, the advertised prices of the three computer monitors returned to the lower prices offered on Kogan’s eBay store before the promotion commenced."

        • -6

          @iMagoo:

3 Products was enough to undo Kogan, you could easily do this manually.

How are you going to do this manually for hundreds of thousands of items?

3 samples of a pre-sale price, "sale" price and a post-sale price is all that would be required to show they've mislead people during the "20% off sale".

          You need more then that.

You missed the part where the price did not change on their website.

Prices don't change frequently on eBay, unless it's a company doing their own sales (GoodGuys etc.).

Prices change on a regular basis on most products especially IT products or where the retailer links the prices to their website prices (and which is why so many falsely claim price jacking when it is in fact a sale just ending)

Good luck with your tracker, let OzBargain know when you make your first reports to the ACCC.

        • +2

Maybe they can go after ebay aswell? Ebay are the one promoting the discount that clearly isn't happening so they have some responsibility imo.

        • -3

          @saard:

Maybe they can go after ebay aswell? Ebay are the one promoting the discount that clearly isn't happening so they have some responsibility imo.

How can they go after ebay? There is the occasional isolated claim of price jacking which is proven in most cases to be utter rubbish and there are many claims from people that they will go to the ACCC yet nothing has eventuated! So what exactly will the ACCC do? Nothing. There are plenty of incidents of price decreases during these sales which are far more prevalent then price increases.

        • @Maverick-au:

"occasional isolated claim" - You must be new here.

eBay advertise these sales so they cannot completely wash their hands of responsibility. If you argue they only provide the facility to sell items then are they not culpable if they allow nuclear warheads to be sold? Oh that's right, not their responsibility, they are just innocently just trying to make a quid off each sale.

        • -2

          @saard:

"occasional isolated claim" - You must be new here.

The vast majority of the claims are BS. Everytime ones gets looked at in detail the chances are that it's proven to be a price update because of a promotion ending or for other reasons.

        • @Maverick-au:

          …..or for other reasons.

          Excellent observation

        • -1

          @Possumbly:

          Excellent observation

Like out of stock of promo priced items, limited run of discounted stock, price increase from distributor, exchange rate changes, bundled products being split which are no longer available etc.

        • -1

@Maverick-au: You appear to have missed the obvious.

Like the supplier couldn't maintain the existing ebay price and absorb the 20% discount without cutting the margin to the quick or possibly even selling at a loss - especially where postage is free.

Or, their ebay price is suddenly massively below the store price thereby disadvantaging b&m franchisees (which still happens of course).

I agree there are many legitimate reasons for prices returning to normal but there have been many examples where you'd have to believe in fairies to not accept the obvious.

Garmin Vivoactive HR $287 after discount. All the big players selling for $399. Decent price!

  • I just bought a Sony A5000 mirrorless camera, manufacturer refurb for $335. They've only got a couple left, so no point creating a new post.

    • From which seller?

    • I also saw a seconds A6000 that came down to $503 (body only). Kind bummed I didnt buy it, there was only one available.

If it doesn't change, the starting price of $135, brings the price to $108 delivered. It's $179 in stores (JB, TGG etc).

Help please! Would be great to take advantage of the free GearFit2 currently on offer too

Because they don't want to be?

    • do a bit of research.
a few of the dealers include on the sale work out cheaper than mobileciti.
The only reason i prefer mobcity is cause they have a bricks and mortar store you can take problems to

  • I was looking at purchasing a Polaroid camera from Ted's Cameras the other day but it seems as though they have removed the eBay listing for this sale. I'll know to stay away from them in the future.

    • Which Polaroid? I'd recommend looking at the Instax cameras if they're available. Bought a Polaroid for the GF a while ago, it prints out photos like a laser printer would. I'd recommend looking at the Fujifilm Instax cameras, they work like the older Polaroids (except the film is smaller than the older Polaroids).

      • And replacement film costs an absolute fortune

        • Yes that's the case with any instant camera. It can be as costly as $1.50 or something per photo, if you shop online for film you can get it to 70c per shot.

      • My gf had her eye on the Polaroid Z2300. She likes the idea of being able to see the picture before having it print. There was a deal posted over a year ago where Big W had it for sale at $90 with is 1/3 of what it's selling for atm.

Any other Polaroid type cameras out there that have the option of seeing the photo before developing it? We have also looked at those printers that can develop photos from your smartphone but they're a little more expensive than the camera. Will look into the one you suggested, cheers

    • I was looking at purchasing a Polaroid camera from Ted's Cameras the other day but it seems as though they have removed the eBay listing for this sale. I'll know to stay away from them in the future.

It could have been removed for many reasons and one of which was they would lose money in the 20% off sale which is mostly funded by the retailer. Given the low margins with many products and high fees on ebay the retailers have a few choices, sell at a loss, increase the price or remove it. What do you want them to do? Take the loss? Raise the price? Remove from ebay?

Retailers can't win, they pull it from ebay (and it could have been for many other reasons like out of stock) and yet they still get people making bogus claims.

      • I thought ebay pays the difference…….just like all their other offers…..so how are the retailers in lost from that? They've make more profit if they jacked the price up before the offer became valid! Which is poor form if you've managed to record down what you wanted to get on a sale(or just for later), and then suddenly the price jacks as soon as the sale/ebay offer comes and you're like aww…..

        • I thought ebay pays the difference…….just like all their other offers…..so how are the retailers in lost from that?

The 15-20% offers with limited retailers have always been mostly or fully funded by the retailers and to top it off eBay fees are charged at the pre discount price so the retailers get hit even harder.

It's only the sitewide discounts that area funded by eBay along with the targeted discount coupons.

They've make more profit if they jacked the price up before the offer became valid! Which is poor form if you've managed to record down what you wanted to get on a sale(or just for later), and then suddenly the price jacks as soon as the sale/ebay offer comes and you're like aww…..

Such is life, get used to disappointment because you can't have your cake and eat it as well. No retailer is going to sell at a loss or at least not a very big one.

      • True but the camera Ted's had for sale was listed well above all the other sellers (possibly above RRP too lol) and thought this coupon might have dropped it's price below theirs a little.

  • Any decent SSD for laptop?

Want to upgrade missus' E570 from the last ebay offer from 1TB disc. Would 120GB be enough for usual stuff plus photoshop?

    • +2

      120gb really isn't alot
Think about it this way, a 120gb SSD will give you about 110 GB usable space (because how a mb is defined eg 1GB as 1024MB)
Usually people have a 120gb SSD boot drive and another large HDD as a second drive for photos music and most apps

I think if you're JUST going to use photoshop and surf the web it should be ok.

      Keep in mind that
      Windows 10 is about 25gb
      Photoshop is probably 2gb
so that's about 20-25% of the space already gone

I'd suggest just go for a 240gb one just to be safe it's probably an extra $20 or $30

    • +1

Agree with KE, I have a 120GB SSD and I struggle to keep 10GB of free space on it, despite separate drives for other things (23TB total), rebuilding my system this month and I'm moving up to 240GB M2 drive.

    • Hey guys, the Xperia XZ states a one year Australian Warranty. Is that actually a local warranty by Sony or just the reseller's?

What Sony Xperia XZ sold by what retailer. Do you expect everyone to search every available Sony Xperia XZ included in this sale?? Post a link to the product in question.

      • I think you mean well by saying that, but there's only 1 seller who's selling XZ if i'm not wrong.

And I'm sorry to assume that people know about it, but I think you could have worded that a little bit more friendly. Like a simple "which" would suffice. I don't expect people to just go out of their way and search it for me certainly, but if someone know something about it and can answer it without any hassle that'd be great.

I wanted an Arlo camera and all the ones I had saved from the stores OP listed above had been price jacked as per usual. So I had one from a different store that wasn't jacked and tried the code and it worked. Was $180 and discount applied was $36 off.
