Awesome thanks for this, I think I might cancel my adobe membership and just use this.

I have, I needed this so bad. So far i have replaced Photoshop with Gimp, Illustrator with Inkscape, Premier with Vegas Pro, and now Lightroom with DxO Optics. I am in the market for more discount outright licences and open source programs to add to my toolkit, if you find any.

      • You could have a look at digiKam for photo catalog and doing things like GPS tagging and combining multiple exposures.
I like FastStone as a raw converter and viewer. I find the colour profile close to what Nikon uses.
With DXO Optics Pro I have not been able to get as close to the Nikon colour profile. However I use Optics Pro for images that need a bit of extra help.

        • Thanks.

      • I'd sooner use Photoshop without paying than use Gimp. When my student price runs out I will need to stop paying for it anyway. Actually I'd sooner use something like Pixlr than Gimp as well. I love Photoshop and when I last tried Gimp all I found was frustration.

        • I would sooner abide by the law to sell digital products than break it, and GIMP is very powerful, it just doesn't have many UX designers contributing to its development.

          @stormii:

As long as we are sooner abiding by laws, I’d sooner buy an old version of Photoshop license than use Gimp. All of the free guides and forum support are for Photoshop, all of my graphic tablet software is with PS in mind. PS is all any employer will care about, though I don’t work directly in media anyway.

And it’s just more fun to use, Gimp feels like learning a new clunky tool designed by developers who don’t give a fart about intuitive UI or app behaviour, but learning PS feels like playing a well polished game that’s been quality tested for decades.

I wish adobe just made PS free for non profit use. People who would benefit the most from using it, other than professionals doing it for money, don’t use it because it’s so expensive on top of the fear factor of learning it.

This is why they have the "Photoshop Elements" line, it has less of the professional features but more focus on things hobbyist/home users actually use and a price tag to reflect it.

          Photoshop Elements 2018
          Regular price A$145.19
          incl. GST

or with you want to dabble in video editing they have Premiere Elements too and as you mentioned you are currently a student you can take advantage of the student pricing on it before your student status expires

          Photoshop Elements 2018
          & Premiere Elements 2018

Its nonintuitive GUI quickly becomes tedious if you venture past the presets.

    • +3

So not worth the price then?

      • +1

Being free doesn't temper its messy GUI. There's a reason they're giving it away and it's not because it's flying off the virtual shelves at full price.

Thanks, OP, downloading now. Interesting that the compatibility list has just about every Canon DSLR ever released….except the 50MP 5DS/5DSR! I wonder if it's an oversight or if it's really not supported?

  • I got all excited until I realised that they don't support fujifilm cameras because their processing algorithms are different.

Still, a great deal for most.

Would this software be an upgrade or downgrade from the previous deal? (higher version number but it's only "essentials" vs "elite")

    • +2

More a crossgrade. Would probably support more cameras and lenses, but with less features and adjustments.

Here's a link to DXO of the differences between DxO Optics Pro 11 Essential vs Elite:

Here's a link pointing out the new features in version 11 Essential over previous versions:

I'm forced to use the older DXO OpticsPro Elite 9 as I'm running Windows Vista.

    • I was wondering the same thing. Missing the "prime" noise reduction - which is probably one of the main reasons for me using dxo over my existing workflow with lightroom

  • TYVM OP! takes a while to download, but worth the wait!

  • Great deal, thanks OP.

Had the previous versions for my Micro4/3 and was missing support for one lens. Now I have that covered with this version.

  • +2

Thanks OP, been using the trial version and has since run out. It's a decent raw converter/touch up application. Not as robust as lightroom obviously, but works well for my needs.

    • +1

the PRIME noise reduction is amazing mate

      • +3

Not available thus version though, only on Dx0 Elite.

  • Would this be good for iPhone photos?

  • +1

If people are interested in Lightroom alternatives, Capture One Pro is an excellent contender.

    • +1

Yes it is but foe thw price of 400$ AUD, it is not bargain at all

      • +1

If you have a Sony camera the free version is fairly useful and it's only $50USD to upgrade to the full product (limited to photos taken on Sony cameras).

      • They do go on sale when the new version is about to be released. Version 9 was going for real cheap when 10 was about to be released.

  • +1

this one doesnt have PRIME denoising, had to reinstall the pro elite 9.
