why it in us dollar… it is Aus bargain site

We're so damn close to parity it doesn't make a shred of difference anyway!

      • +3

by damn close u mean damn close but above right? hovering about 101 right now and paypal is paying 99cents

        • Exactly, split the diff between what you should get and what you do get, et voila, parity! ;)

    • +2

Bargain is still a bargain in any currency. Most of us have the aptitude to understand currency conversions.

      • For those that don't, there's always Travelex! ;)

  • Well it should be noted that a lot of games, especially the good ones, are restricted to US and Canada only.
So if you wanna buy it, you'd either need a friend from there or to use a VPN and certain types of credit cards-similar to buying from the us steam store.

Edit: looks like steam is having a sale too:
Lead and gold + shattered horizon for $12.50

Still not as good as Black Ops for almost half the price they're asking on the Aussie Steam.

  • +1

$45 for Black Ops is a great deal. You can pre-load the game now and wait until the 9th (probably 10th Aus) to use it.

No need for VPN, you can use the key in Steam (in fact you must), and there's no 3rd party software to load (aside from Steam). The pre-load is 8GB and flying down at 1MB/s plus. I'm not even using their download manager, coming through JDownloader just fine.

Would recommend this as it is the cheapest, genuine (non grey-market) deal around.

Paying with PayPal came to under $45.50 AUD

  • Bloody hell. I just bought COD BO just 2 days ago from that exact site…

  • So the key that D2D provides also works as a Steam key? Because if that's true then this deal deserves a 3-digit vote

    • Yeah, call of duty is a steamworks game so it requires steam to play. Direct2drive give you the pre-load option to download the files but wont release the CDKey until the actual release time (7am, nov 9th in the US), which means you'll get it a day later than local release.

Alternatively you could find someone in the US to gift it to you on steam for $10 more and you get it on tuesday. :)

  • scrap that comment. i tried again & still works. musta made a typo in the coupon code first time or something.

  • I keep getting service errors. Anyone help?

  • I can't purchase the game as well, kept getting account errors. However if you look at the small print under the offer, it did say "Not available for pre-orders", prolly that statement is active now unless others got through?

    • It said that even when I bought it, it will still work.

COD is in "pre-load" phase so maybe that's the difference. You can actually download the game files now and wait to unlock it on the 9th/10th.

Don't know about service errors, but I created a new acct last night and paid with PayPal without issues.

  • I can't get it working either. Now it says I've tried paypal too many times (3) and I can't do anything about it.

Even tried to make a new account but this gets the service error.
What a waste of time! Maybe they fixed it or something.

EDIT: Stuff Paypal, I ordered with my debit card and it was fine.

No matter what i do, i keep getting Account Error's, this is so frustrating. Anything different that you did instead?

    • Well I didn't use Paypal, it made me go a little crazy after having to type my long password in each time.
So then I decided to use my CBA Mastercard instead and it went through fine.
      Didn't need any confirmation either.

      • I was using a CBA Mastercard debit card as well and Account Error popped up.

        • Wait, 'account error'?
The errors I got were all 'service errors'.
What were the specifics of the account error?

Is the country of your D2D account set to 'Australia'?

  • It was, i changed it to Kentucky, US and "Account error. Please contact Customer Service. " still popped up. What did you set your address as?

    • Mine was set to Australia.

It didn't work for me, but you could try making a new account. (account error = account related?)

If you really can't get it to work, at the end of the day you could always get someone to buy it for you.

      • It didn't work for you? I tot you have ordered them already. I tried US and Aus address, both gave me the same reply (Account Error)

        • No, I meant making a new account didn't work.
And yes I have bought it, not with paypal but with mastercard.

Have you tried making a new account yet?
You may have screwed something up while making your old one.
This time around, don't lie about details.

  • Worked perfectly for me and also used paypal. Cost $44.96.
    What a bargain.

Oh it asked me for a one time verfication, and you need to put in your telephone no.
Using an aussie one works ok.

  • Can black ops bought from D2D be linked to an Australian Steam account?

    • +1

You can link any key to any kind of steam account as far as I'm concerned.
Considering you can use an uncensored l4d2 key with an australian account.

      • Sorry for being so persistent on asking for help. I tried making a new account written all the true details and activating my account and yet again, Account Error pops up. I even tried Paypal and "server" not service error pops up. I'll just have to wait till they handle my ticket in Customer Support.

        • It takes ages though.
Try clearing your cache and temp folder(like they suggest).
Otherwise I'm out of ideas, just get a friend/family member to gift it to you then pay them back.

      • Have you done this yet, and linked it to an AU Steam account?

Only reason I am so persistent in asking is that I know Steam are pretty strict when it comes to customers trying to purchase games from different regions in order to save a few $$.

        • +1

Of course, I wouldn't be satisfied with the wussy version of L4D2 :D

IMO, I don't think they care too much.
At the end of the day, they still get paid and we get what we want(sorta).
Not to mention you're able to purchase from other steam stores as well.

The markups are a TAD unrealistic though.
If you check the front page of the Steam store you'll see $90(!!) for ONE game.

It's like the developers who set those prices don't want Aussies to buy from Steam.

Just put an order through for Black Ops, coupon code worked, paid $44.96.

    Hope there's no complications!!

  • Btw guys, when u put your telephone dont forget area code. i.e

    02 99xx xxx

    • -1

      or mobile +614xxxx xxxx

    • no need for double post next time, just edit your old one from 02 09xx xxx to 02 99xx xxx

      • It was an accident. Cant seem to find del button

  • damn, no sc2

  • +1

Finally it worked for me! Great buy if you want a legit digital copy! I got charged 47USD thou, if u were to use a credit card.

For people with Account Errors, just send tickets to the Customer Service. They seem kind enough to reset your account or something and it works. After about 2 days of trying and tons of tickets, it worked.

    • Have you received a code? I've got a confirmation e-mail but no steam code.

      • You will not get the code until the actual launch date. They only let you download the install file first since its a pre-load.

  • so how do you download this game on your steam account?

and also im hoping this work for AUS steam accounts or else i just wasted $45!

    • You can preload it now if you want to. It took me four hours to download it from d2d at a constant 500kbps but you can get it from any other site. Once you get the key, just copy the files to your steam folder. And I'm sure it'll work with any steam.

      • only 500kbps? Im getting over 2.2mbps through Optus cable

        • Yeah only. Maybe it's the shabby exchange I got with iinet or maybe it's the 30m Ethernet jungle. But what can I do…

  • I ordered COD:BO but my order failed on the phone verification. They called me ok, but when I answered the call I could not hear anything at all. I tried clicking the "call again" button but I didn't receive a second call. After that it said to contact customer service, which I did.

The game was still left in my shopping cart so I tried checking out again but it just said I had reached my maximum number of verification attempts. I hope I will still get the game at 25% off. It might take a while before they respond to my ticket and the sale will end soon.

  • I checked out and paid with my credit card instead and that worked. Hopefully they won't charge my PayPal account as well.

i'm watching all the hassle going on with the cdkeyshere russian cd keys not working in austrlia.. and hoping d2d keys don't have the same problem :S

    • +1

I'm also watching, but haven't made a purchase from either place yet. :)

  • I'm getting 'Error: Call of Duty®: Black Ops is Country restricted on your IP. '

Can I still buy it or what? will the key they send me still work?
    Thanks

  • Looks like they updated the website, "This product is available for purchase worldwide excluding Germany, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.". Uh-oh

  • Yeah you can't buy it anymore but they'll still honor transactions made prior.
(….you could try using a proxy though)

    • define "honor transactions".. i don't really want them to honour it by providing me with a key that I can't use =/

has anyone had any contact from them?

I have sent an email asking what will happen.

      • Let us know how it goes.

        • +1

          response is:
"Because you have already purchased the game, you will still recieve a key and will be able to access the game once it is released"
fingers crossed there's no surprises like the cdkeyshere peepz got

  • @Madman697

You sent a ticket to them asking about the key? They have not replied mine yet prolly due to the time there (They should be sleeping)

EDIT: I didnt finish reading your post. So pretend i didn't ask anything. However, hope they didn't ban the use of N.American's CD key in Australia just like what they did to Russian's CdKeys

  • +1

Guys, The CDKEY is up. Works like a charm. Luckily i didn't get the "Russian Version" feel sad for others.

  • Yep, working fine for me. took about 5 minutes to install. and I just played a quick round of mulitplayer. really glad i didn't buy the russian version. I figured $45 was a fair price for a new game

    • How did you install it in 5mins?

I downloaded the install files a few days ago from Direct2Drive using their download manager. Got my key yesterday, then launched the setup file from the install directory.

After it installed steam, I clicked on add game, then entered in the cd key. Instead of taking 5mins like it did for you, it took over 4hours, but cause it then tried to download and install some sort of update?

When I originally got the install files from D2D, it only took around 30mins at 2.2mbps. Hopefully it wasn't downloading the install files again from steam??..??..

PS. I'm new to all this Steam process. Is there a easier way to install the game next time incase I reimage my PC??

      • you most definitely re-downloaded the game from steam.

I left download manager to download the files overnight, was going slow @ 100-200Kbps. The files were downloaded onto my file server, which is connected to my gaming PC via a gigabit network connection. And my gaming PC has a SSD. So that's how I did it in 5 mins.

by clicking 'add game' you are using steam to install the game. I had steam already installed and running before starting the COD installer

        • Thanks for the info.
Is there any way of installing the game using the 7gig install files downloaded from Direct2Drive?

        • Slow response but just run the setup in the files you downloaded instead.
It will extract to the steamapps folder automatically.

And once in Steam you'll only need to download a small patch before you start having fun! :D
