  • Looks like a pretty decent bargain to me… 2.5" 1TB USB3.0 drive for $129.

Did a search on staticice for '1tb 2.5 usb 3.0' and the cheapest drive that came back was $164 for a Verbatim. The cheapest Toshiba that came back was $217.

  • +3

This notebook is brand new in the box and unopened.
    Wuht?

  • cheap for a usb 3.0 drive, but does anyone know if its a ordinary 2.5 sata2 drive? need to upgrade my alienware m11x's drive :(

    • The usb 2.0 versions of the drive apparently are. No idea if the usb 3.0 drives are the same.

And I would assume they are 12.5mm thick.

  • +1

I reckon it's pretty misleading posting the specs of the interface when the hard drive can't even achieve 10% of the interface speeds.

    • • Rotational Speed: Up to 5,400RPM
Personally I'm getting a Seagate 7200RPM drive getting a USB 3.0 enclosure from DealExtreme.
That way I can interchange any 2.5" drives I have =P

  • good price seeing as it's not much more expensive than usb 2.0 1tb drives.
but is it worth paying extra when the speed difference won't be much because of the 5400rpm drive.

  • What's the transfer rate of a 5400rpm SATA drive when connected via SATA?

My USB2.0 drives max out at about 35mb/s real world.

My internal 7200rpm desktop drives typically pull 100mb/s or more.

So if USB3.0 allows these 5400rpm drives to pull say 60-70mb/s, I'd be pretty happy.

    • I get around 77MB/sec (according to win7) when I transfer a large (4GB) file from my laptop to my usb3.0 portable drive. Mine is an enclosure I bought off ebay ($28) with a 7200rpm hitachi drive.

And I agree that this looks like a good bargain, assuming the 3.0 performance is decent.

  • Looks decent. ordered one! :)
Just have to get USB 3.0 now…

  • does anyone know if the hdd can be removed and used?

  • pretty good deal, i've been looking to buy a new 2.5'' hdd as well.

  • too tempting; just ordered one tonight :P

    • just noticed this morning, oo.com is selling this for $160 /free delivery. So this MLN offer is really a bargain!
