    Any gift card for freedom?

    • +1

Not sure why you were negged for that question but to answer your question, yes.

Might be good to consider if you plan to do some major purchases in the future (when there are actual sales).

I'm assuming that the usual "Amex cannot tell what you purchase" sort of thing will occur and so getting a Gift Card will still result in the AmEx credit.

Here is a + for you as I didn't think of that as an option. My mate might get something from there but only once he works out the rest of his new apartment needs so a few GCs might be the ticket for him. :-)

  • Thanks op

I also have BBQ Galore Spend $500 or more, get 10% back, up to $5,000

For those who are thinking of buying Freedom's gift card. My advise will be to take a walk in the store first and see if you like their products (and their prices). As many would tell you, its an expensive Ikea/Kmart.

Also, last year we got $80 off $200 so this time its not a lucrative offer anyway, but if you can find something that suits your need then $75 off $300 is still not a bad deal :)

    • Yeah I joined their Freedom Club or whatever it is a few years ago to get free delivery and a discount on a couch, and you got a $50 voucher on your birthday each year. Apart from issues with them administering the program, there was little to buy in store for $50 aside from a cushion, etc.

    • +1

Couldn't agree more. Last few years I've walked in a few times and never purchased anything, but now I never bother. It is seriously expensive.

To give you an example. Originally they wanted $1099 for this coffee table. Even reduced to $799 it is still massively expensive.
      https://www.freedom.com.au/furniture/living-room/coffee-and-…

I don't understand the tactics, only slightly cheaper than quality designer furniture. You may as well spend a little more for something fancy, or save your money and go Ikea.

      • +1

Agree completely! I've bought a few great pieces of furniture in the past but since their new business model ('lower prices'), I never shop there anymore. So much of their furniture and homewares is so over priced now. I'd prefer spend my money on better quality.

        • I'm still using the black Z table glass desk set (with return to make it L shaped) I bought back in 1997. Love it!

        • @danielh: Went online to have a look at their sofas - 17 weeks delivery!

    • Im always surprised its still around… went their 10 years ago, was astounded at the prices… $40 for cushions… not with special tailoring or anything, just plain cushions…

      • +2

They have a target market that still buys their stuff, so I guess that keeps them open.
It's hard to imagine that not everyone is an OzBargainer, and the lengths we go to to get discounts on stuff is quite insane really. Talk to your colleagues at work, explain one discount stack that you've done, and you can almost guarantee they'd reply "nah, too hard, too much effort", etc etc.

        • Of course, people don't know any better

          I only recently discovered K Mart… never had one near I was… I'm astounded

But yeah Freedom, shocking prices for such low quality

        • How many people here buy stuff just because it's cheap? Are they really saving money? The reason Amex have these offers is to get people to spend more.

  • Dammit i bought a lounge yesterday from freedom. Still 3 weeks till delivery, i wonder if they will let me refund and repurchase without cancelling the order.

    • Let us know how you go

      • +3

They let me refund the order, repurchase it on 3 amex cards and not lose my spot in the order queue. Quite happy as i saved $225 :)

        • +1

          That's true OzBargaining. Well done.

  • +12

Thanks OP, good to know I can get cashback for spending $50,000 at BBQs Galore

    • +6

Thinking of starting up a new BBQ restaurant? Could come in handy!

Only offer here I will use is Menulog. BBQ's Galore is useless as I only have a small (already full) balcony and Freedom is such a rip. Walked in, saw a couple of price tags and ran out the door!

    • +3

good to know I can get cashback for spending $50,000 at BBQs Galore

      Probably due to this incident

      • Haha, that was a classic. I wonder what happened to the bloke that was doing all the drop-shipping. He made a serious profit out of the whole debacle probably.

      • Holy crap, that was an epic read. Hope the whole saga ended well for him.

  • Thanks OP, lately I've been not bothering saving to card and then being disappointed when there's money I could have saved. Saved all 3. I need a new chest of drawers, some outdoor furniture.. and just last week I spent $55 on takeout.. so hopefully all 3 will come in handy!

  • +5

Thanks OP. Best way to wake up, is to wake up to an AmEx deal from forumninja. The ultimate OzBargainer's dream.

  • +6

For once I will not save these and let others have it.

Hopefully there will be more useful AMEX deals relevant to me soon.

  • A 2.5 seat with chaser from Freedom is in my short list. $1299 - 5% member discount - 300 credit through Amex - 20 credit provided by Freedom = 914.05. Sounds good.

    • FYI it's a $75 cashback on minimum spend of $300, NOT a $300 credit… unless ofcourse you have 4 AMEX cards, and split the payment to get 4 x $75 cashbacks.

      • Well I have one personal and one business Amex card. My wife has 2 Amex cards. We have registered the offer to all 4 cards.

  • -1

where is the HN deal ?

    • +1

What HN deal are you talking about? The HN deal finished last year!

      • -1

new one. I missed out on the one last year ;/

        • +1

There's no new one… unless I'm seriously mistaken

        • +1

@MathNerd: he's just hoping for a new one… would be nice but it'd be too soon.

  • Thanks OP. Saved.

  • spend $50 or more, in one or more transactions, online at www.menulog.com.au or in-app via the Menulog app by 20/02/2018 to receive one $10 credit

Am I reading this right? I just have to spend a combined total of $50 in any number of transactions with my AMEX on Menulog before the end of the offer period?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • Any restaurants the same price on Menulog as instore? Or are all prices on Menulog inflated.

    • +3

Same price as store, menulog has a best price guarantee or you get the difference plus $10 voucher

      • I have checked a few, most of the Pizza places are a couple more per item.

        • +1

Order via menulog and then contact them to claim on the best price guarantee. Win win!

      • This.

      • +2

A burger joint near my place had a $1 premium on all Menulog prices verses normal prices. Ordered with Menulog, complained, got back the price difference and a $10 voucher code. Now the Menulog prices are the same as normal. Complaining works wonders!

  • Menulog is sold out :(

  • +1

online at www.menulog.com.au or in-app via the Menulog app by 20/02/2018 to receive one $10 credit

Sweet, Valentine's day dinner sorted. Great stuff.

  • If you apply the deal to your card is it guaranteed or only if it is still available when you actually purchase something?

    • If you have already saved the offer to your card, you will receive cashback when you spend by 20/2/2018.

      • Thanks - I took advantage of the Freedom one.

  • damn i was too slow for menulog!

  • GOLD status for Hertz car rentals.. !! if anyone care to join

  • Is it just me or does the Menulog site not offer Amex as a payment method?

    • Just you. Try clearing your browser cache?

      • Hmm tried this and still nothing. Even went incognito and not signed into my account.

        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/21874/56147/73e8a6ae-a…

        • Weird. Try a different restaurant? I can see it on both mobile version and desktop version.

        • Must be the particular restaurant, though I doubt that the fee that Menulog charges the restaurants is dependent on the payment method used!

  • +1

For those with the Menulog offer not yet used, you can stack your $10 statement credit with a 10% cashback today only at Cashrewards.

    Here's some maths:

    • Say you order exactly $50 of food for pickup (OzBargainers don't pay for delivery).

    • You'll get cashback from Cashrewards of $5.

    • You'll get $10 as a statement credit from AmEx.

    • That's $50 of food that's cost you effectively only $35.

    • That's 15/50 = 30% discount. Sweet deal.

Now I'm off to get a hot vindaloo so I can heat up the house in preparation for Valentine's Day dinner tonight.
