    does it come in Mens?

    • It's a unisex bike, I'm a fairly largish guy and ride one of these very comfortably

      • Where do you ride it? Just up and down your driveway?

  • -1

    Made where?

    Warranty?

Not sure they are legal in QLD. refer…..

Oz BARGAINS, not OZ discounts, $499 would be a bargain

  • Do you ship to Melbourne?

    • +6

      No, they cycle.

    • Yep we ship to Melbourne, shipping cost is $200

      • +3

Pffft then the $100 discount is useless

        • -5

INDEED, it is OZ BARGAINS, not Oz discounts!

$499 would be ok, if a legal product

  • +1

    Is it legal

    • -1

Yep completely street legal, same laws apply that would to a normal pushbike

      • +1

        Yep completely street legal

The girl in the picture is riding illegally

        • +2

It isn't illegal to stand astride of a bicycle. She isn't even riding.

        • -1

          @smashed:

She's riding on the footpath and isn't wearing a helmet.

Maybe she's in the Northern Territory …… or a religious Queenslander?

"In the NT since March 1994 there is an exemption for adults cycling along footpaths or on cycle paths.[16] The Queensland government announced in April 2013 that exemptions on religious grounds from mandatory bicycle helmet laws would be granted from 2014.[17]"

        • @jdr:

          Nope, look at the pic.

          Nope, look at the pic.

Fair point. Besides, there are far too many people in one shot for it to be the Northern Territory.

NO they are NOT legal in QLD. [check your own state laws] refer the legislation:

Max. speed 25kmh, you state 27kmh

Must comply with the European Standard for Power Assisted Pedal Cycles (EN15194).

Must have a permanent marking on it that shows it complies with this standard.

        [Does yours comply?]

        https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/safety/rules/wheeled-device…

If sold or used in QLD on a public road you are breaking the law, period.

From what I can tell, this bike is legal in Azerbaijan. Perhaps the OP confused this site with AZbargain?

Why do you not mention the aH or watt hours of the battery?
Can you confirm what it is and which Samsung cells are used?

    • Apologies battery is 36v/7.8ah Samsung cell lithium battery

      • +2

Hi, which cells though? Do you know please?

To be honest that is a very small battery but ok if you don't ride far and don't mind charging regularly. Do you do options on larger batteries?

        Thanks

        • We offer a 10.4AH battery for an extra $200

        • Which cells? If it's not legal, it sounds like it could be "Long bay", with optional upgrade available?

  • vamosbikes - please confirm if the offer is for the El Rapido

    • Yep that's the one, the front carry tray is optional

      • On the website it is listed as $899. So is contacting Michael the only way to get the discount?

        • Yes

        • @vamosbikes: Thanks, description updated.

      • +4

the front carry tray is optional

You didn't mention that in your post, yet you included it in the picture.

That is deceptive and misleading advertising.

  • +3

Does the price include GST ??

  • +1

    Are these road legal

    • +5

      Not is some states.

obviously you have some association with this store.

rather than discuss the deal, you attack the people questioning it.

        • @jv: hi jv!

I wish I had an association, then I'd get paid or some benefit!

I'm pointing out the road rules as per the discussion in the comments and what I see at the time. I'll comment as I like on what I know, deal with it. OP continual edits are unusual, but some of your comments are factually wrong too

    • +2

NOT in QLD. be warned. confirm with your own state laws, know a guy who got pinged in QLD. why i know the laws, lost the bike and fined

      https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/safety/rules/wheeled-device…

  • +2

Seems like in VIC, this 'bike' is considered a motorcycle, not a bicycle, as it exceed 200 watts

    https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safety-and-road-rules/cyclis…

    • +3

Agreed and that's a good pick up, but if someone in Vic or QLD would be silly enough to pay for the shiping costs that are offered here, well they shouldn't be on Ozbargain.

A quick check on ebay, shows local resellers of similar bikes for less asked in Vic and QLD, where shipping is less/nothing

So negatively voting the deal, as its NO deal now the OP is promoting this by the inclusion of shiping costs to states where it's illegal and more expensve to buy because of these shipping costs

      • It appears they are classified as motorcycles in NSW too…

        http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/roads/safety-rules/stand…

        • Nope!

If this bike is certified to EN 15194 it is a bicycle

        • +3

          @thetrain:

          certified to EN 15194

The OP only just edited their post now to state that but are yet to provide any proof.

Also, the OP posted that these bikes can reach a speed of 27 km/hr unassisted, which makes it illegal.

They also claim the price includes GST, but they are not registered to collect GST.

        • @jv: that is hard to check but in general if is

-power assisted to less than 25 km/h
          -under 250 W
-requires pedaling to get power assitance

          then it is compliant

        • @thetrain:

-power assisted to less than 25 km/h

OP clearly stated it reaches 27 km/h

        • @jv: it has been edited, I'm going on what I can see now

        • +5

          @thetrain:

          it has been edited

          Correct.

Rather than post the facts, the OP keeps changing any detail that someone finds a flaw with. It's hard to believe what they are claiming has any truth at all.

There have been 10 edits thus far changing the details.

        • +3

@jv: It is definitely a problem that the details keep changing

    • Definition of a power assisted bicycle from your link

-A bicycle certified as a Pedalec (compliant with European Committee for Standardization EN 15194:2009 or EN 15194:2009+A1:2011 Cycles - Electrically power assisted cycles - EPAC Bicycles). This bicycle features an auxiliary power producing no more than 250 watts and specifies this as a continuous rating. It also restricts the top power assisted speed to 25 kilometres per hour and requires the rider to pedal to access the power.

If this bike is certified to EN 15194 it is a bicycle

      • +3

If this bike is certified to EN 15194 it is a bicycle

No proof that this is certified though.

The OPs original posts suggests it is not complaint.

  • +5

Definitely not a bargain because even with a quick search on ebay, you can find other motorcycles such as this which has a bigger battery (12Ah), all the inclusions and free shipping for a chump change of $778 after discount ($999 RRP!) comparative to yours with all the said inclusion and shipping to Melbourne would be $1199 + however much the back tray is ($799 + $200 10Ah + $200 shipping).

  • +6

Yikes, JV must have an RDO on the first friday of the month…hammering

    • +4

He is fighting for fair, BTW, these are a <$200/pc in China

If importing them, but without proper lab produced compliance, it is a mine field

Further somebody gets injured you could well find yourself in court

If GovCo or police want to come after you, better have a good lawyer and deep deep pockets

Not for Australia, becoming like USA, one issue and you get roasted

No evidence of compliance, seller lowered alleged top speed, SUSS POST, DELETE

A savage thread to read with my morning coffee. Good morning everyone ^__^

  • +6

Too many edits on post due to legality questions, not sure if can even believe whether the bike's actually legal now. Also, company charges GST but isn't GST registered.

    EDIT:

DO NOTE MAX SPEED IS ACTUALLY 27KM/H AND IS ILLEGAL. OP edited deal above to "fake" legality but I found their listing elsewhere https://www.amazon.com.au/El-Rapido-City-Cruiser-Ebike/dp/B0… stating max speed is 27KM/H

Well played, what does it say about a seller that finds out about the laws and regs. after he/her has imported the goods, and then hides/removes/tweaks his/her advert?

      ebay is just as bad

They are selling a illegal product, unless used on private property, end-of-story!

If you purchase one and get pinged, hope the sellers lawyer assists :-)

NO MENTION OF WARRANTY, PARTS BACK UP??

      MADE IN CHINA, not mentioned

      • +3

Agree, whether one agrees with the law or not, it certainly looks like this seller either doesn't know their product, doesn't know the law or doesn't care about accurately describing their product. In my view, all are unethical and shouldn't be encouraged on ozbargain.
The above earns one neg ozb vote, a complaint to ACCC, NSW RTA and to NSW Fair trading. Well done OP!

    • -1

Whoever's downvoting me, thanks anyway. I don't care.

  • +1

    Calling it, DELETE

  • I must admit, I don't wear lycra when I'm out on my electric bike. Maybe that's the cause of the bullish responses of these comments.
I can't see any requirement for a compliance plate in the Qld regs, I'm not sure if that's part of EN 15194.
I estimate my motor is only 60-70% efficient, so the electrical power going in would need to be 285W to produce 200W of mechanical power at the road - that's how the regulations read.

    • +2

Sorry but your "estimates" while they maybe correct, really wouldn't be accepted as covering any legality under the law. The rules would be based on manufacturers data or output as assessed by some authorised operation, or as defined any any regulations

    • +1

I can't see any requirement for a compliance plate in the Qld regs

      From here:

A 'pedalec'—a bicycle with an electric motor capable of generating up to 250 watts of power, but the motor cuts out at 25km/h and the pedals must be used to keep the motor operating. Pedalecs must comply with the European Standard for Power Assisted Pedal Cycles (EN15194). The vehicle must have a permanent marking on it that shows it complies with this standard.

      • I’ll go for option 1… which clearly states the motor ‘generating’ and not ‘consuming ‘ no more that 200W, I mean that’s what being an engineer is all about. No permanent marking required.

        “Legal motorised bicycles

You can ride a motorised bicycle on all roads and paths, except where bicycles are prohibited. There are two types of legal motorised bicycles:

        1. A bicycle with an electric motor capable of generating no more than 200 watts of power.
        2. The vehicle must have a permanent marking on it that shows it complies with this standard.”
  • +5

23kg, 1 gear and limited battery.
Not going to be fun when the battery gives out.

For this sort of money, surely you expect some gears.
And if you are riding on totally flat ground, why on earth would you want electric assist anyway?
