Why are these controllers so expensive?

I thought these things would be nearing $20 a pop…

I'm going to buy a controller one of these days for emulations ran on a PC, but I think a good old PS2 controller will be best. Is there a kind of "universal chinese controller" these days?

They are expensive because of the technology inside. They really do work well, and are cheaper than "name brand" like Logitech etc.

If you want a good PC controller on the cheap, buy a genuine Xbox 360 controller = the dongle to suit.

      • What technology is that?

        • -2

The controller technology, and the quality of parts. The smoothness and "niceness" of using them, In summary, they "just work". Why are you asking the inane questions… some genuine interest or just trolling?

        • @llama: Inane questions?

I asked what the technology was inside and you say "it's technology". No inane questions here, just inane answers. It was a pretty simple question. You're just bad at answering it seems.

So I guess this is just an overpriced controller then, okay I'll move onto something more worth the purchase.

        • @StoneSin: It's not a simple question, since you do not seem to understand the concept of "quality". Your questions are kind of like asking why a BMW or Mercedes costs more than a Hyundai. They all contain the same kinds of components, however there is a significant difference in overall performance.

As FabMan mentioned, Microsoft Xbox controllers are considered the best of that kind of "gamepad". That's why they cost more. If youi are a serious player, you would want the best to improve your gaming experience.

I have no desire to explain the specific details, especially to someone who repeatedly comments about the product being overpriced.

        • @llama: Yeah, if BMW had more technology.

It's okay, you don't know the answer because the answer doesn't exist. I understand that now.

        • @StoneSin: I do know the answer, and the answer does exist. However you will have to research for yourself.

    • Because the are the pinnacle of gaming controllers (well the Elite version is) and I have a bunch of different controllers, they feel good quality in the hands too.

They also claimed to have spent many millions making it, though I think that is bollocks and more of a tax thing, somehow.

Can you please consider doing a deal on the Minecraft XBox One Controllers?

I have the Minecraft XBox One S Minecraft Version and would really like a Pig controller to go with it.

    • I'm looking for exactly the same thing!

    It may require some extra steps, but you can get local stock (I think) for $59 delivered with this method by creating a new Amazon AU account;

    1. Create a new Amazon AU account
    2. Add the controller to your cart
    3. Add something worth $5 (Shipped & Sold by Amazon AU) to get the total to $79. E.g. This item
    4. Apply the code AMAZON20 during the checkout
    5. Total cost will be $59 delivered

The shipping time in my example seems longer than usual due to the $5 item, however the controller should arrive much quicker. Perhaps not worth the effort to save $0.99, but it's there as an option.

The controller you linked is the original Xbox One controller whereas this is the new Xbox One S controller (V2). The new one has Bluetooth, new textured back, 3.5mm Jack and slightly retweaked buttons.

      • This is also the newer version, Amazon AU have not added/updated any product details to identify it easily as such. The same product is being sold at Amazon India (same ASIN number) which states that this is the newer version with Bluetooth and a 3.5mm jack.

If you check the MPN for this product (885370603934) then you can see that other stores are also selling this controller. You may need to be on the mobile site to see the MPN. E.g. The Gamesmen are selling this, and you can see from the pictures that this model has a 3.5mm jack.

Where did you get the information that it's not the newer version?

        • The pictures they use imply it is the older model…
For me seems a bit of a risk to save 99c

I ended up buying the white controller from Amazon the other day using the promo code - was a few $ more but I did not want to get an older controller under any circumstances. Was peace of mind.

        • After talking to an Amazon AU rep. I can confirm that this is the latest 3.5mm/Bluetooth version they are selling. Same ASIN and product details as on Amazon In. They will also be updating the product description to reflect this.

Ended up buying with the $20 Amazon AU first time discount. You can also choose a $5 video or 2 for $5 from the buy 1 Get 1 free deal. I chose the later 2 blu-ray for $5. To make up the minimum $79 minimum spend.

The OzGameshop says this is v2 yet v3 is the latest which I assume everybody would be selling by now. Unless they had old stock left.

          • V1 November 2013: Original launch day controller.
          • V2 June 2015: 3.5mm jack + Easier to press bumpers.
          • V3 August 2016 (Xbox One S controller): 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth (for connection to PCs ONLY), textured grip on the back (not the same as Elite/Lunar), increased range, slightly redesigned form factor.
  • Reminded me to go looking for a Steam Controller again. Why is it so expensive here?! Really want to try it out, but the XB1 controller's looking much more tempting price-wise.

  • V2? what does that mean?
