FireFly The (in)Complete Series

Five hundred years in the future there's a whole new frontier, and the crew of the Firefly-class spaceship, Serenity, is eager to stake a claim on the action. They'll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space.

EDIT: $12.99 on iTunes (US), $24.99 on iTunes (AU)

    Fantastic series .

    • +2

Yes. So sad it was cut short.

It was already better in its first half season than many shows which take 2 or 3 seasons to hit their greatness (eg, Star Trek TNG).

Stupid, stupid decision from the studio to cancel it (and all the backstory causing the poor ratings which they used to justify the axing, such as poor scheduling).

But hey, Fox… "Stupid" is almost a tautology.

      • +4

As far as I know, it was also not aired in the proper order.
i.e The pilot wasn't aired first.

Seriously, I don't know what Fox was thinking.

        • +1

Even Fox doesn't know what Fox is thinking.

      • It's the show that everyone claims is amazing but nobody actually watches it.

        A bit like Futurama.

    • It struck me as weird they have space age tech and the colonies on the planets were just wild west cowboy towns. Then the genius of it hit me, that's exactly how I'd do it. A few hundred/a few thousand colonists dumped on a planet, what level of tech could they sustain without much support - basic. You need millions of people for a high tech world ie factories, computer tech, mass mining rare minerals etc.

      Sheer genius.

    Excellent series.

Underrated but its a double edged sword. I wish this was longer but then again it is perfect as it is.

  • "The Complete Series"…

    • +2

It doesn't say "The Completed Series"…

      • +1

Let it go man, it's gone

      • Well yeah, it doesn't come with the movie which completed the series.

Is this the show that Dr Sheldon Cooper loves?

    • +1

It would be the one. Nathan Fillion, the lead in Firefly, appears in fact in one episode of TBBT as himself.

$17.99 AUD in the Google Play Store, which is pretty close to US$12.99… pretty sure that's the normal price, but still bargain for the quality of entertainment we're dealing with here, right?

    • That's not a bad deal, actually. Does it have the extras, or is that DVD only?

      • Nah standard digital release with no extras.

        • Ah. Forgot to add that I went and took a look. Thanks for that. I bought an ex-girlfriend the DVD box set. Was hoping she'd leave it behind. She didn't.

  • Awesome series

Seems expensive for one season ?

  • The Complete Episodes. All Seasons. Seasons 1 to 1. The Best Bits Of.

  • JB HiFi has the Bluray set in their 2 for $30.
Next 20% off sale wouldn't be far away.

    • +1

Even if you buy it separately, it's still cheaper than this deal to buy it on BluRay for AU$19.98 at JB -

      • Hard to watch blu-ray on an iPhone or ipad on the go.
Would be my choice as well though if I didn't already have it sitting over there in the collection.

        • Rip it to PC/NAS/Server and play it with Plex. All my media sits on my Plex server, can stream it at work or via 4G on phone/iPad etc. Plex is epic, well worth the $200 lifetime subscription over the 8-9 years I've been using.
Of course a half decent internet connection is required, or sync episodes to phone while on wifi at home.

Also, fave episode is the one with the mudders, Jayne's song is damn catchy.

        • @dheywood:

Can you recommend a DVD ripper for OS X

          Thanks

        • @Worf: Handbrake is the one I use https://handbrake.fr/

        • @dheywood:

Sure, but how about the hours it would take to explain that to Joe Blow, the everyday man.

On top of that, not everyone has a blu-ray drive in their pc/laptop, $200 to spend on a plex subscription, a data plan to allow streaming episodes, lost count of time and money involved with your solution.
All to save $5 over the click and play solution from the app store.
Then there's the 'legality' grey zone on ripping your owned discs.

  • Bought 25years anniv bluray, serenity in 4k, and pop figures.

"The Complete…" part of the title makes me feel sad.

  • Netflix has the entire series, anything extra with this?

    • Was gone when I checked last night.

      • Yup. Can confirm. I had it on my list of things to watch.

      Everybody is dead Dave.

  • Great series highly recommend it, just a shame they don't make many more good ones like this.

  • Given that there was only one season I'd hope that the complete series was relatively cheap.

  • Great show, I have it on blu ray and a permanent place on my Plex server, however at the current US $ conversion rate, it should only be $17.07, we get so ripped off here in Aus for itunes purchases.

  • Yep. Where’s the decent Sci-Fi at? I just cannot get into the new Star Trek. I wanted to like it, I really did.

The Expanse is where it's at ATM.
The Orville was more like Star Trek than Star Trek Discovery was.

I enjoyed Dark Matter. Not too dissimilar in tone to Firefly but not as good of course. I didn't mind Lost in Space either, even with the enormous plotholes. I guess it depends on how deep you want your Sci Fi to be ;)

Not easy to own a gun in Australia, so I had to name my car Vera.

I adore Buffy, Angel, and Dollhouse, but I could never get into Firefly. It just went too far with the baby-speak. Grown men and women on the frontier of space should be able to converse as adults.

    • +1

      Wat drugz u on cuz

    • I have a sneaking suspicion your confusing baby speak with straight up mandarin Chinese.

      • i think hes confused it with another show altogether. tellietubbies perhaps

  • Oh man! the money I'd pay for another season!!

  • This was the best show! I never understood why it was axed.

    • because of the way it was initially aired on tv. it was crazy and all over the place. the first episode shown on tv, wasnt the first episode of firefly! it was the 2nd or 3rd or something. and then it kept changing days and times. eg week 1 its tuesday night 7:30pm, then the next week it would be thursday at 10:30 etc etc all these crazy events led to poor ratings which led to it being axed
