    I caved. Switched from 50/20 500gb $60 to the 100/40 500gb $65.

    • +1

I am on the 50/20 500gb $60 too. Am wondering if I can "switch" to the 50/20 500gb $55 now being offered?

      • +2

        yep you can

        • Thanks! Just did it and yes it confirmed the $5 saving per month. This helps to offset the extra cost I am paying for concurrent NBN services when Telecube provisioned NBN before processing the phone porting…

        • Applying the same logic, I'll be able to switch from the 25/5 1000GB $50 to 50/20 1000GB $60?

Awesome, I asked for this very deal recently so I'm glad you have delivered!

        • Just did that this morning and can confirm its saying a savings of $5 on the 50/20 500gb plan! Great

        • Why does it take 1-2 weeks for hfc downtime?? I recently went from buzz Telco to aussie BB and my downtime was literally 1 hour and I am on HFC. I would like a better deal but if it's going to take you 2 weeks to do something another company can do in an hour doesn't give me much confidence in the ability of your company. Can you answer why this is the case?

        • @Tythefly86: it's a provisioning limitation on our wholesale providers platform

        • What a disgrace.
This price increase ($69 currently to $85 or reduce speed by half and save $4) is a joke. The only way it can look is that you sucked all these ozbargainers onboard to then jack up the prices. Other companies put the prices up for new customers and look after the earlier subscribers. I encourage all ozbatgainers to subscribe to Aussie Broadband and to ditch these dodgy bastards.

    • Just done the same here. Back to the old MR speeds, and $65 is still a great price!

    • I went the other way, from 25/5 to 12/1. I was maxing out at 15, more often at 6 or 7 for downloads so figured I might as well go to the 12- how much lower could they get me? Since I went down my speed has actually gone up- bang on 11 last few times I've tested.

  • I'm on the original $69 whirlpool with daily usage limits, I wonder if this is worth changing for $1 extra.

    • What's the 69 deal? If you don't need 1000gb go for the 500gb 100/40 for $65. Definitely one of the cheapest at the moment.

    • I'm also on that plan. Interesting idea to change.

    • I think it is worth the change for the unlimited uploads.

Could even downgrade my plan to 500Gb but decided not to for the moment.

    • I'm on the same 100/40 1000GB $69 plan but didn't know there were daily usage limits. Where can I find the info on the plan I have? I want to know what the extra $1 will get me, considering I paid a setup fee!

      • +1

I'm on a $69 plan with no daily usage limits. Email support and they will advise, my guess is all daily usage limits have been removed.

      • +2

there are no daily usage limits, that was something we had in the very first plans when we started, it's been removed now

      • Well their website isn't that helpful but I signed up to this deal which counts uploads and downloads. Also the setup fee is gone, changing plans won't affect it.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/358204

I don't think that this deal had daily usage limits.

        • Old plans did have daily usage limit of 10 percent monthly cap / day. Also hourly usage limits during peak time.

But you did get Netflix unmetered.
Pretty sure daily and hourly limits now not enforced.

  • Hi, Do you offer voice on UNI-V port? Thanks

    • we don't sorry, you will need a voip device

        1. Do your provide SIP details?
        2. VoIP service linked to data service IP?

        Thanks

        • You add extensions in the portal and get the sip details from there

i'm sorry i don't understand your second question

    • +1

Gigaset phones are good if you need a VoIP suggestion

      • +1

Or just use an old mobile phone, running a SIP client and connecting through WiFi.

If you don't have an old mobile phone, Coles and Woolies regularly have new mobile phones for about $29. Doesn't matter if they're carrier locked, you're not using the mobile network.

        • Hey mate. Am interested how this works. Do you have a guide as such. Thank you in advance and apologies as im not too techy

        • +7

          @Jonski:

VOIP is just a service supplied through the internet. Any computer connected to the internet, including smartphones, has the ability to do VOIP. All you need is a program or app that can communicate to the internet, in the way required for VOIP. For Android phones, I recommend the app cSipSimple.

With a VOIP app, you will have to enter a few details that were emailed to you by your VOIP provider, in essence these are your "login" details so the app can establish communications with the VOIP provider. Once that is done, and the app has communications with the VOIP provider (usually to the internet through WiFi), you are able to make and receive calls through the app. Your VOIP provider will supply you with a "regular" phone number, like (03) 9xxx xxxx, which is how everyone calls you, whether they have VOIP or not.

You can also install the app on a phone that is connected to the mobile phone network. Then it can get a little bit confusing, because your phone can receive calls in two ways, through the mobile phone network and through VOIP. It's a lot simpler to have a dedicated phone for VOIP, so connect that phone to the internet via WiFi, and don't put a SIM card into that phone.

VOIP has many more features than "normal" phone networks. For example, if you go on holidays, say to New Zealand, take your VOIP phone with you, connect to your hotel's WiFi, and you'll still receive calls from people calling your (03) 9xxx xxxx number. No long-distance charges! And you can still call people back in Australia, the costs are no different than if you were making the call from Sydney.

        • @Russ: Thank you @Russ 1 !

        • +1

Good idea. Telecube also provides a licenced app for free with their VoIP plans called Cloud Soft Phone which has licenced codecs like g729.

        • @spaceflight:

g729 is no longer licensed, its patents expired a year ago, and now it's royalty-free.

I've been recommending people look at SipTalk as a provider, it's owned by Telecube and has cheaper rates than Telecube-branded VOIP. Siptalk don't appear to offer an app though.

Telecube-branded VOIP seems more suited to business customers.

Edit: I've just found a page on Siptalk that says it costs $65 to port a number to them, plus $4 a month ongoing! I'm not going to recommend them anymore to anyone wanting to port a number!

        • @Russ:

Edit: I've just found a page on Siptalk that says it costs $65 to port a number to them, plus $4 a month ongoing! I'm not going to recommend them anymore to anyone wanting to port a number!

yeh that's not current .. the whole siptalk site needs an overhaul sorry, can you message me the link where you saw that please?

        • @Russ:

I thought that it had expired but apps still seem to want a fee to let you use the codec.

The other good thing with the Telecube app is that it shows your account credit and there is no setup needed.
To get it working you scan a QR code on the Telecube website.

It is also possible to use VoIP on Android without any app which means that you get to use the default phone app so making calls is a little easier

        • @telecube:

the link where you saw that

From the Siptalk homepage, click on "FAQ" at the bottom.

        • @spaceflight:

apps still seem to want a fee

Yep, I think most VOIP apps haven't been upgraded for several years, so that bit wouldn't have changed.

use VoIP on Android without any app

I have heard that, but isn't that only from Android 5 or 6 onwards? As I'm recommending using an old phone, most likely that phone will be Android 4.

I also recall reading that telco-locked phones tend to disable the VOIP abilities of Android. I can't find it on my Optus-locked Android KitKat (4.4) phone, even though I unlocked it.

        • @Russ: thanks .. fixed

        • +1

          @Russ:

Yep, I think most VOIP apps haven't been upgraded for several years, so that bit wouldn't have changed.

I think it would be why make it free when they can keep charging for it.

I have heard that, but isn't that only from Android 5 or 6 onwards?

I don't know, I have only set it up on newer phones so you could be correct.

  • Hi OP, I just changed my plan from 50/20 to 100/40. How long will it be before this gets processed? Have restarted my router. Cheers

    Account ID XXXXXXXX

    Mod: Removed account ID

    • it's a manual process for us, it should be updated through the morning today

      • OP, can you advise:

        • Do you block any ports and/or services
        • Do you offer static IP included in price?
        • +1

we don't block ports but all services are provisione as CGNAT by default and aren't publicly reachable from the internet

You can addon a dynamic ip address at not cost in the portal

A static ip is $5.50 per month

        • @telecube:

Can we have rDNS provisioned on the static IP?

          Paul

        • @someguycalledpaul: yes there's a $16.50 once off fee and $5.50/mth for rdns

  • Does this come with a modem? my area will be getting nbn soon (hopefully no delays). Also, how long will this deal be around for?

    • The deal page said no modem supplied. Of course you only need your own modem for FTTN/B/C. Deal expiry is in the post, 8 May.

    • +1

The FTTP and FTTC comes with the NBN modem
      you just need any router
the deal till 8th of May
      Cheers

      • Note they don't support FTTC as yet. no ETA for when they will.

        • Where did you see that information?

I thought that as an NBN retailer, the last-mile technology makes no difference to them - they just forward the order to NBNco. It would only make a difference if they are helping a customer overcome a problem, the fault-finding steps will be different.

    • we don't provide a modem, it's byo

      • Hi Rep
just to clarify the modem is supplied by the NBN correct?
Thats for the FTTP and FTTC!!
        Thanks
        Cheers

        • +1

You'll still need your own router for FTTP/C

        • +1

You'll need a router for FTTP and a VDSL2+ compatible modem/router for FTTC, FTTB, FTTN.

Ensure you get the right device for your technology.

        • +1

          @apptrack:

No, just a router is needed for FTTC.

          From NBN website:
"To use your FTTC service, you will need an FTTC nbn™ connection device and your Wi-Fi gateway. The nbn™ connection device will be provided to you so you can connect to the nbn™ broadband access network, however this will remain the property of nbn and should not be removed from the premises."

"Wi-Fi gateway" is their way of saying WiFi router.

The diagrams on the webpage make it clearer. Link: https://www.nbnco.com.au/learn-about-the-nbn/network-technol…

        • FTTP - NBN supply the NTD - you supply modem/router

        • @Russ:
          Newbie here.
I have an ADSL modem Linksys X3000, it has "Cable" port and can work as a router.
Will I be able to plug it into the nbn connection device and use it as Wi-Fi gateway?

        • @doperst:

Sorry, I don't have that level of expertise.

I do know that not all routers are suitable. You need one that can present your "credentials" to the NBN, so they know it's you.

  • +1

    Do you guys have bpay?

    • Yes - they do

  • If I watch a decent amount of 4k content on Netflix, is 1000gb enough?

    • Yes

    • +3

4K Netflix uses 3.5GB to 7GB per hour. At 7GB that's 4.7hrs per day. Source

      • huh? from your info, if you watch netflix 5hrs a day thats 7*5 which is 35gb a day. 35gb for 31days is 1085gb

  • +3

    Hi Rep,

Can I sign up now and request a later connection date?

    • +1

      Same question for me……

      • +1

        And me.
My connection date is supposed to be the 11th May according to TPG (I haven't seen that info anywhere else). But I'd like to take it up after my next pay on the 15th.

    • They did for me. They processed it about 5 weeks in the future without me reminding them.

    • yep you can, leave details in the notes of the date you want the service activated

      • What if I don't know the date. Nbn says I'm planned early next year.

        • just say you're not rfs .. you'll need to contact us when your address is ready to connect

    • Same question from me :)

    • Can I sign up now and request a later connection date?

You can also sign up when your area is not NBN-ready yet.

I asked this question during the last deal, and signed up even though NBN won't be available to me for about a year. In the notes I said "My area is not NBN ready yet, please start the service once my area is enabled". Telecube sent back an email saying "Thanks for your NBN order. As you've identified, your address is not yet serviceable on the NBN network. Please reply to this email when it is serviceable and we'll process your order for you."

When you do this, it is a little bit confusing. As you sign up, the Telecube website will ask you to put some money into the account, I think the minimum was $10. I put enough in to pay my first month's service, and that initially showed as credit in my account. The following day it was showing zero credit balance, I messaged the TC rep and he said "The credit is held aside from the account balance as it is allocated to the NBN service that you added."

  • +1

my area 3021 has HFC connection. The note from OP makes me worried but I could not find any details on telecube site

    • If you're moving from another provider

    • +2

hfc is problematic .. please email support with your detail and ask the question

      • Hi Rep,

What's the reason for Lost-Carrier? Is it normal for it to happen on a daily basis?
I got two services churned last week, FTTN and FTTP, and got this Lost-Carrier issue repeated on both services with an interval between 6 hours to 2 days.
It normally recovers within 5 minutes, sometimes 1 or 2 minutes, but it still annoyed the housemates in the middle of online gaming.
I didn't notice this happening so often with MR in the past, neither got complaints from the housemates, could this be improved?

        Thanks.

        • could you email support about it please ?

      • Is HFC problematic only for new connections or is it also problematic for already connected services?

Aussie bb switched me from Buzz in 20minutes on HFC. I'm interested in this but not the 1-2wk downtime. Thanks

        • yeh sorry it's a problem because of our carrier not being able to do hfc churns yet, we are hoping that will change by the end of this month

    • from there website
NBN services are available in a range of speeds and data allowances,
peak and offpeak periods have different amounts that you can
choose from the options listed below.

But I can't find the information on what amount of data is for which period as it's not listed below.

    • -1

      Unlimited offpeak. Read carefully.

      • +1

Yeah says that above, but not on the website.
Personally, I still want to see that in the terms of the contract I am about to sign, not just on OZB.

        • +2

please check back later this afternoon we will have it updated

        • @telecube: Hi, I still don't see anything on the website stating unlimited offpeak downloads for these deals. Thanks.

  • I’m 725m from the node so my max DL speed is 52mb/s. Obviously a 50/20 plan is better for me.

I run a plex server so I need a static IP. Can anyone suggest the best value/performance? I’m currently with skymesh and get 1mb/s at evenings.

Choice 1: Exetel 50/20 unlimited plan $59. Unlimited. Static IP. Whirlpool comments are positive. 18 month contract (but if it’s crap I think the TIO will help me leave without too many issues)

Choice 2: Kogan 50/20 unlimited $59. Positive comments on whirlpool. Static IP. Comments mostly positive. No contract. Forced to buy their $90 modem even though I have my own nighthawk.

Choice 3: Telecube 50/20 1000gb $60 + $5.50 static IP fee. Positive comments on whirlpool. No contract.

    Any suggestions, friends?

    • +1

Avoid Exetel like the plague, the rest I can't comment on unfortunately, but I will look into Kogan…

    • +2

Why do you need a static for Plex? Plex runs fine with a dynamic. If you are that worried just set up a free duckdns address. Best practice is to connect to Plex via https://www.plex.tv/ as you are covered by Plex SSL certificate and all login info is kept private

      • +1

I always thought the options were static IP or CGNAT. didn't realise dynamic is OK. OK I've gone with TC. Fingers crossed. Thanks for your help!

    • +1

      AussieBB?

    • CHoice 3. they're really good, especially in peak time & support. which is where it matters.

      • OK I've signed up to TC. Fingers crossed they aren't as bad as MyRepublic and SkyMesh. I haven't had a good run lately…

        • I think you'll be pleased

        • What issues did you have with SkyMesh?

Currently with them on NBN fixed wireless and have no issues besides maybe rare drop outs that typically only lasts a few seconds

        • @RandomFox: evening speeds where I couldn’t even stream a Spotify song. Netflix wouldn’t play. Just buffer. Non peak times, like when I’m at work, were great if I was having a sickie..

        • +1

OH many MyRepublic…they were good in the beginning but now my speeds have slowed to 5Mbps sometimes at night…pings of greater than 22ms even while I'm on the 'gamer plan'…so far no useful responses from their customer service…

    • I went with Kogan - Has been great so far on a FTTP connection - 50/20 for $59. Modem was only $60 but works out for me as I didn't have one. Went from Optus 100/40 and haven't noticed a whole lot of difference in speed still crack a few mb/s with the torrents.

      • +1

thanks. u haven't noticed any slow torrents during peak times? I noticed with my republic, for example, after 6pm torrents downloaded at 1k/s.
