  • Good deal - The Wire for $63.20 is a great bargin

    https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvd-genres/drama-romance…

  • Damn was typing this as you submitted. Can't believe they are doing this again, does this make 4 times in the last 2 months?

    • +18

Yeh, maybe they can just permanently reduce prices by 20% :)

  • some good deals there

    • +8

Bit harsh mate, love the show personally…each to there own i guess

      • -3

I personally don't like it because the laugh track is freakin' terrible. I've never really been bugged by a laugh track in a show before, but in this one it's so blatantly overused it hurts. Every little tiny line that at best would get a light smirk out of me gets a raucous laugh track.

        • +6

Oh, and apologies to people who like the show and who are now not going to be able to because they keep noticing the laugh track.

        • +1

          DAMMIT TANTRYL!

          I hope I don't notice it hahahahaha

        • Believe it or not, the show is filmed before a studio audience. That's not a laugh track, it's actually people laughing.

Still is annoying though, regardless. I tend to get used to it though.

Two and half Men is by far the worse comedy made by Chuck Lorre and co

      • -1

        Can't argue with that.

    • So true, +vote for you.

    • it wouldn't be so bad if channel eddie didn't keep showing it everyday

    • you really hate sitcoms

  • +1

Whats that, like 4 times in the last couple of weeks now? Looks like 20% off is the new standard price.

    Good for us anyway :)

  • +10

Thanks. Great that we can use it online.

Odd that the CD I've been thinking about getting has always been $9.99, but now it's $15.19 'on sale' though.

  • It's really true….retail is having a tough time. They will not give away discounts easily.

  • Picked up Contact on Blu Ray for $7.98 delivered. Still looking for more mega cheapies.

  • +1

    damn 3D TV Blu-rays are still $$$

  • -4

    People still buy these things?

  • +2

FYI the 20% comes off the titles in the 2 for $20 and 2 for $30 sale after they have been added to the cart making them $8 and $12 each :)

    • +1

Thanks :) Just bought forgetting sarah marshall and friday for $16 shipped. Good deal.

  • +2

Good if buying movies but not necessarily the best for tv series.

Do they have a concurrent buy 2 get 1 free deal? If not 20% off isn't that great considering that the 3 for 2 deals work out to 33% (if buy same price).

    • I found that some of the 2 for $20 titles are actually priced @ $10 unstickered, when I went in store to buy them as the 2 for $20. So I had to choose A third 2 for $20 title to get my second blu-ray discounted.

    • +1

I thought that "buy 2 get 1 free" at JB is typically limited to the items in the bargain bins/tables.

      • Maybe now - havent bought from JB for a while. But generally the buy 2 get 1 free deals included most of tv series at least in the past.

Movie wise they were generally the older stuff.

But unless i'm in a rush I'm going to stick to amazon :p

        • They do buy 2 get one free kids movies around May, Buy 2 get 1 free TV around June/July, and buy 2 get 1 free movies (dvd) around August. Been the same for years. Blu-ray is the one that seems to pop up at multiple times per year

      • buy 2 get 1 free items will have the sticker indicating that discount applies. i went to after boxing day sale for the 20% off none of the cd had those stickers. so i guess, no concurrent discount.

  • +10

It is not the discount that matters, but rather how much you pay. Plan your purchases and compare against www.amazon.co.uk and http://www.dvdplaza.com.au/. Impulse purchases may be regretted, with 20% off or not.

If you wish to purchase dvds from www.amazon.com (USA) please ensure that you dvd player is multi region. With regard to blu ray movies here is a site with useful information: http://bluray.liesinc.net/

Blu ray players bought in Australia are usually region set to Zone B, which includes most European, African and southwest Asian countries plus Australia and New Zealand. This why you may wish to purchase your blu-rays from the United Kingdom.

If you do purchase from the UK please ensure that you have the 20% VAT subtracted from any price that includes the VAT. Amazon UK does this automatically, however this cannnot be said for all UK sellers.

  • so most of the online prices displayed are already the discounted prices?

    • -1

I'm a bit confused about this. It doesn't say that online is excluded, but a few DVD's I've looked up do NOT include the 20% off.

EDIT: the site claims that the 20% is already applied - bullshit. At least three DVD's that I've just looked up are exactly the same price as before the 20% off.

      • like?

        • Fargo, Scrubs the Complete Collection, Star Trek Voyager the complete series. Now whilst those DVD's are 'on sale', there's nothing that says the 20% excludes sale items. Nothing I've seen anyway.

        • scrubs complete collection is at $95.20 which isnt a JB price point. it was $119 in store the other day so I assume this is already has the 20% discounted. Fargo is $5.58 which also isn't a JB price point so it is reduced. Star Trek was $199 so minus 20% is $159.20

        • Link? All I'm getting is this - http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvd-genres/tv/scrubs-seas…

          It's showing up at $119

EDIT: also, Fargo was $7 before the sale.

        • +2

I clicked your link and I'm getting $95.20. clear your cache?

        • Ok, wierd. It's coming up at the correct price in Internet Explorer, but not Firefox… Okay, apparently the 20% is off them all :-)

  • Got Risky Business on bluray for 8 bucks.

    • -1

Do older films get much of a visual enhancement on Bluray?
This movie came out in 1983 so the source video would be pretty dated.

Even though I don't have bluray yet, I'm starting to think I should as the prices for most movies on DVD and Bluray are about the same now, except the former format will be obsolete soon and is inferior in quality.

      • It doesnt matter how old the film, just look at the reviews for the sound of music on blu-ray

        • You make a point. I'll do some research on HD reencoding of old films to see how they achieve this. Pretty amazing when you think about the technology behind it.

        • They add alot of noise from what I've seen….

        • Exactly. Some titles on blu-ray are no better on blu-ray than the dvd version. Whilst others are outstanding and greatly inproved. I normally just goto places like Amazon.co.uk and check out the feedback and reviews for the blue-ray I want to purchase.

      • +3

Films are actually shot on film 35mm which has a much higher resolution than digital, so old films will almost always have more than enough 'quality' for Blu-Ray. The real trick is making sure the film is transfered well to a digital version, which is where the restoration normally takes place.
Blu-Ray is no guarantee of quality though, the latests Predator release is a good example - it looked grainy and horrible despite the DVD being a clean, well restored version.

        • -1

          Thanks for enlightening me ;)
I suppose it is similar in concept to many of the old analog music recordings(i.e LPs and cassettes) from decades past which get the "digitally remastered" treatment.
So really, the transfer process from analog film to HD digital video is crucial to getting the best possible video quality.

    • +1

In store as well till sunday

  • Instore too for 20% id say mate

Just ordered 4 Blu-Rays taking my collection to 200 all up

    Plus ordered 1 dvd

3 items of my order where "On Order" after ordring them. I wonder how long it will take to get them then.

    • As far as I could tell, 'on order' items are excluded from the sale.

      EDIT: my bad, just pre-order

    • wow, 200 BRs already!
You must have been an early adopter/collector of the format.
I probably have around that many DVDs in my collection but it has taken almost 10 years.
Money is not my limitation, but actually storage space. Parents get shitty…

    • I also went instore and the wire box set costs $114…..

    • There aren't even 200 Blu-rays worth owning… you must have some dud titles.

      • so wrong, ive got well over 200 titles now and i only keep the good ones and offload the rest

  • Awesome :)

    Reservoir Dogs (Blu-ray) - $12.78
    Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Blu-ray) - $8.00
    PRESTIGE, THE (BLU-RAY) - $8.00

    Total $28.78

3 blu-rays for under $30 incl. shipping, not too bad at all!
Needed something to take for a spin on the new TV + bluray player..this will be my first true HD experience at home :p

    • +2

if u want something to test ur new bd player then i suggest Baraka ,its $12.78 , its a doco not for everyone but it was filmed on 65mm and restored in 8k res, video quality will kill nething.

    • Just checked the price and it shows that The PRESTIGE is actually $10.38 after discount and not $8

      • 2-for-$20 Blu Ray now becomes….. wait for it……
        $16 or $8 each.
        LE-GEN-DA-RY!!!!

  • +2

For Pokemon's Fan or those with kids. Pokemon Season 1-6, now 24 each! They are 6 DVD8 to keep you kids addicted for 20 hours each season while you can have some peace to hunt for bargain!

Is this a mistake or what?
I thought Knight Rider S1 was only 4 DVDs not 8!?
    Wrong photo too.

    Source : http://www.amazon.com/Knight-Rider-Season-David-Hasselhoff/d…

    • +1

They are correct I just checked my Knight Rider S1 dvd set. Its definately 8 dvd in 2 fat dvd amaray cases. They just used the wrong photo.

      http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ID=5618

      • Excellent value for the price. That's more than enough of the 'Hoff to get my fix of 80s film. Will make a new order now. Do you think they will consolidate the orders if I make two before they dispatch?

Update : Whoops. My original order I proceeded through paypal without logging into my account(didn't need to). My second order I logged in. Hopefully they will consolidate and reconcile the orders into one and realise that it is the same entity!
        Stupid impulsive me.

  • Got Spiderman Trilogy Blu-ray $29.58

    • i think i saw that advertised at big w for the same money

      • -1

Big W are cheaper on everyday pricing.
        They have 2 for $18 Blu-Ray's where JB's are 2-for-$20; now $16 with 20% off.

        • +1

Not on everything. For examples - Scrubs is $23 a season at Big W, $16 a season at JB with the sale. The only different one is season 9 which is $40 at Big W, $28 at JB.

  • it says "Purchase Limits Apply" anyone knows what that means? whats the limit?

    • +1

Probably "commercial quantities". Doubt they even impose it though.

  • -1

It seems JB's feeling the internet spending spree.

Amazon.co.uk would be taking heaps of business off them.

Teach em for screwing people as much as they do…..they are like the EB Games of the movie world.

    • +4

Its actually not JB and other retailers setting the prices much higher than in the UK, its the Australian distributors, sony, universal etc.

      • ahhh, so they're the actual a-holes to blame!

  • I wish they had The Sopranos box set available online. Couldn't find any in-store.
    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvd-genres/tv/sopranos-co…

Anyone else here got a region 4 set? Where should I be looking for the best price?

    • -1

Amazon UK has the Complete DVD region 2 boxset for rougly $68.00 AUD posted.

  • Got a Les Miserables 25th year Anniversary Concert Blu-ray ($21.59) to test my yet to be fitted new BL Sony speakers…still waiting for a receiver!

  • Just for confirmation, as per the point I was making earlier…It seems paying with paypal negates the need to have a JBHIFI log-in account/registration on their website? This is because I ordered twice, but my first order I forget to login but it still went through. My email them about this so I feel safer. I know, I just answered my own question but I'm kinda confused as to how their system works.

  • Fantastic thanks - just ordered Miniscule - great little animation series - for kids, but we love it just as much
    https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/default.aspx?P=540568

  • Thank you OP. Got the $299 beatles pack for $239. I don't know if that's a bargain compared to overseas stores, but I'm happy.

    • +1

If you're ever in doubt, use www.booko.com.au

      • Whoa booko does cds as well? I had no idea. I only used them for books so far. THanks for the tip!

        • Well they do DVD's as well, I've honestly never tried searching for CD's… worth a try at least

  • Personally, I would make it its own bargain… but JBHifi Online sells ROUND THE TWIST: Completely Twisted Collection (All seasons -10 discs of this magnificent australian kids show) for $29.58 delivered!). I bought it last week for $37 before this 20% discount, and had to buy another for a gift! Other stores I've searched sell it for $59.

  • Thanks, I've ordered some DVDs online, however JB Hi-Fi in Hobart said the sale didn't apply to stores, it was online only.

    • +1

they're lying to you. The banner on their website clearly says 20% off 'all ticketed prices'. The online store doesn't have 'ticketed prices'. Besides, unless it specifically states online-only, then it's in-stores too.

      • Well, The Untouchables was marked at over $30 in-store (Hobart), but only $12.78 online. The staff member said his cost was $25, and the sale price for it was for online only. Free delivery was the clincher for me.

    • Definately instore and online

  • its stores aswell
the strand one in sdney has the signs up

  • I just picked up TrueBlood Blu-Ray season 1&2 Boxset for $55
