  • wow great specs

the 32TGB of storage at that price point is something new I haven't seen, most stop at 16GB.

yeah, someone will play the snapdragon card saying it's better, forgetting a lot of consumers don't know what a snapdragon is and just want a TV box to watch downloaded movies, stream Netflix, etc.

Think I have about 3 android TV boxes in the household of various generations, all seem to do the same thing,

Someone will also say "ME box does Netflix 4K streaming" , haven't seen much 4K content on Netflix, let alone a network connection that supports those rates.

        the 32TGB of storage

        WOW 32 Tera gigabytes !!!!

That should be enough to download the whole internet…

        • dohhhh typing on small screen causes more typos than typing with real keyboard :-(

        • good point, not Whole but a fraction of it..

        • That was his honest mistake like yours. It was self explanatory as there is nothing like Tera gigabytes. If he wanted to willingly make a mistake then he could have written Zettabyte :) which he did not do.

        • Really? I'm pretty sure that's about how much video gets uploaded to Youtube every hour.

      • Someone will also say "ME box does Netflix 4K streaming" , haven't seen much 4K content

Yes, it is annoying when they say that. The real issue is that most of these boxes only do 480p Netflix.
They will do 4K Kodi, but android is not the ideal platform for kodi. Does LibreElec run on these?

      • +1

There’s plenty of 4K content on Netflix, it looks great on my 4K OLED.

    • only missing features are dual band AC and bluetooth, strange the previous model has bluetooth and this one doesn't have it.

Hi OP Can you do a special on the h96 max please or another rk3399 android tv device?

    • +2

Waiting for good deal on 3399 too…

    • H96 MAX RK3399 Would love it but $160 :o

Pretty much the same specs. Older OS.

  • hi OP can i buy more that 1 with same price ?

    • All coupons are set to 1 per order sorry.

meh this box can't really do 4k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpFElrN7ExQ

    • +3

4K@60fps to be specific. It still does 4K@30fps.

      • +1

you should include that in the title

      • +1

so this is false advertising as well then

Those are images provided by the manufacturer. I would be happy to let a GeekBuying employee know that the reviewer was unable to achieve 4K@60fps as outlined by the manufacturer, thanks.

      • It still does 4K@30fps.

        I blink faster than that…

Urg, SD Netflix, not Android TV OS … why wouldn't you buy a Xiaomi Mi Box 3 for another 12 bucks?

    • Depends on what your uses are. If you want to use it for emulation (many do) then this would be a better choice over the Xiaomi Mi Box that I posted earlier.

    • MI box need to side load instead of use playstore for sbs on demand etc ….. it needs to be operated by 10 year old or 60 year old or they will hassle me and i have better things to do than side load apps for kids or grandparents

the market is phones so that is where the most apps are developed for first, android tv seems to get developers spare time.

    Hi all
ive been reading that the Au net providers will be blocking all illegal streaming connections soon.
And also that some countries have banned the sale of these media boxed..
Any one else read this as well?
    Cheers
Ps, my X96 works great with the server movie connection but not so well with the streaming ..

read a lot of stuff but a lot are urban myths.

some people stream copyrighted material from local tv stations eg hot coal walking championships fron uzbekistan which is of interest to ex pats so they can place ads and make money …. eventually the copyright owners ask for the doman to be shutdown, and they move on to another.

the noise came from people who bought tv boxes with kodi with plug ins for the sites streaming copyrighted material and when domain closed people felt ripped off by tv box seller …….

if you can’t load your own plug ins, you probabaly cant keep it updated .

in not into kodi streaming, just use iview, netflix, sbs on demand, etc.

Recent article TVB broadcaster failed in their attempt

      https://www.computerworld.com.au/article/640707/hong-kong-tv…

  • Anybody know whether this would work with Skype using an external webcam? I'm looking for a Skype TV solution now that Microsoft stopped supporting official Skype TV.

    • im looking to do the same for inlaws. if you find or know of a webcam to support this running off an android tv box, please recommend.

  • OP would you please also recommend a good (and well priced)game controller to go with this?

  • Saw this yesterday and was going to post it… but then I saw this.

    https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/search?dir=desc&q=rk332…

Very slow processor. So didn't bother.

it’s quality of the app to just proesssor speed that results in the use experience ….few people sit in front of a tv and watch benchmarks ….. they watch netflix, iview, some mp4 movies on vlc or kodi and the quality of the code in those apps has a lot to do with the user experience.

      • +1

hmm negged, seems some people do just watch benchmarks on the tv then.

        • Play games or other things. Benchmarks show how fast the processor can go.

My old Android box was not only a streamer but web viewer and doc reader.

Speed also makes genera tasks snappier and prolongs the life of the device.

          Serviceable yes.

  • Hi OP can ubuntu be loaded on these boxes / boot from SD card running ubuntu or similar desktop O/S?

  • Hi Rep, can it load chinese TV apps onto it?

    • If they're on the Google Play store then you should be able to.

  • 4K@60hz?

  • +1

Will this play x265 in plex without transcoding?

  • Hi Rep, so just to confirm - this is stock Android with full access to Google Play store, or is it based on Android TV?

    • +1

Stock Android found on phones and tablets.

  • Auto frame rate switching on this box?

  • Is this installed with Android 8.1 Oreo or 7.1? or is this false advertising?

    • +1

Android 8.1. The manufacturer didn't bother to update their marketing material so some parts will say 7.1.

  • Can i side load apps that are not in Google Play store?

    • Yep. Just need to enable it in Developer tools and you're good to go.

  • Hi Rep, this is international version?

    • No such thing as an international version. This isn't running Android TV like the Xiaomi Mi Box.

      • Sorry, I mean - menus, setups etc are in English? Sorry for dumb questions.

  • Will it run Plex Server? Thank you.

  • I bought this mx10 as a replacement for my elderly parents broken wdtv live. It's disappointing. The inbuilt media app didn't play the audio of the first movie I tried to play. The kodi icon wont display. The remote is sucky, no play or pause. It's too fiddly for me let alone old people.

    • Google Play opens a lot of possibilities. Maybe try VLC?

      • The installed os isn't real good. If I could get a launcher like nova working properly then it would be way better. I should've done my homework a bit better and got an android tv rather than this chinese box. VLC works but it's interface isn't great.
