Love the American Tourister sales material that shows tourists gleefully dragging their American Tourister luggage.. onto a beach.

  • Ive been told Samsonite are American Tourister are pretty much the same manufacturers when I was shopping around this weekend.
Saw this one which Im liking the 80/20 ratio instead of the clamshell. Bought the Samsonite Spin Trunk version just over a year ago - wheel started to buckle barely out of the airport due to the 30kg weight and last trip (3 trips since and 5 months actual use) the zipper is now opening apart every time I zip it. They come with 10year limited warranty but apparently mine falls against wear and tear or am I being misinformed?
One thing I would love is one of these hardcases with more - all terrain wheels that could actually be dragged on a beach or a dirt/gravel road.

    • If they are pretty much the same manufacturer they're still not the same quality from what I've seen… Maybe a OnePlus/Oppo sort of thing - OnePlus (Samsonite) obviously being the premium, flagship option. The Samsonite's seem as if they are higher quality, though the wheels I find roll similar in my experience. That said, when you can literally buy 3-4 American Touristers per one Samsonite, my pick is still American Tourister.

    • As far as I know, 10 year warranty for luggage is useless. I don't even know on what condition will they honor their warranty.

      • Yep, agreed. Wheels and zips are main issue and from what I've heard wheels are never covered, zips quite rarely.

        • Not sure about ten years, I had the wheel on my 3-4 year old Samsonite that was stuck replaced under warranty without any issues!

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Tourister

American Tourister is a whole-owned division of Samsonite. The range itself is different and caters for different markets where Samsonite is very much about weight whilst American Tourister is more about the rigid structure/clamshell. Even though American Tourister cases are claimed as "Light" (eg. this example is 4.6kg), it pales in comparison to Samsonite's "Lite" range that is 2.6kg to 2.9kg.

Pulled the trigger, first expensive suitcase I bought, hope these are better than kmart once.
    Thx OP

      Kmart once is about right.

  • About to pull the luggage , however I’m worried that the white colour would show any scratches and dirt easily compared to black or grey .

    • I've seen these exact bags on the belts, and the white definitely shows the filth bad.

    • white will definitely stain guaranteed. PRetty much any colour but white will be better stain-wise

    • I have the 66cm of these in white (with black trim). My previous suitcases have all been soft so I don't know how it compares to a darker colour hard shell. It does show marks and scratches but it doesn't come back looking grubby, like I imagine would happen if you sent a white fabric bag or something through as airport luggage.

Most of it is a rough matt texture so scratches don't jump out.

Of course, I don't like having new looking luggage so it's not a problem anyway.

    • buy a bottle of plasti dip and spray it.
      that's what I did…
      mask the wheels/zipper/handles…

  • How heavy is this suitcase? The hard shell ones are usually more heavier which means you cannot put as much stuffs as you like with soft ones.

    • 4.7kg according to the link.

I just bought the 80cm antler juno 2 from the same store for around $143 - it's 300g lighter with more storage capacity. I have the 69cm version already, and it's proven quite good.

      • Ideally you want the suitcase to be as light as possible so you can fit in more items. 3.2kg or lighter is recommended. 4.7kg is a bit too heavy to be honest.

  • Bought a 66cm mid-size one, i've a large and small but missing a medium size :p
Not sure why I need that free Business Satchel for lol

  • What are the terms and conditions?
I want to buy this https://luggageonline.com.au/collections/antler/products/ant…
But 20% discount doesn't apply. Best I can get is 5% off.

    • For some strange reason the coupon wasn't working when I tried it. Have updated the post with fixed coupon "20DISC".

Ordered an American Tourister Dartz bag on Monday morning around 5am with the 20% discount code. It just arrived now, just over 48 hours. I am based in Sydney. Impressed.

Service from the rep was good as well, usually answered my questions within a few hours.

The free manbag seems to be a cheaper vinyl material but who could complain? It's not really for me anyway.
