First Post! Saw this while trying to burn my Qantas Frequent Flyer Points. Amazing deal using QFF Points where the price is around $321, assuming 1 point = 0.55c. Plus Free Shipping! RRP for $699 but I normally find them around $450. Really good if you have spare QFF Points that you're trying to get rid off. Use combination of points and cash if you don't have enough.

This top-notch, made in Europe collection now ensures an even smoother travel Experience offering double wheels and an elongated double pull handle. Its incredible lightness and outstanding comfort will make your journey even more delightful.

    1 point = 0.55c
    Not a good exchange rate.

I dunno, that's just what I found on Finder:
"Each Qantas Point spent on gift cards or products through the Rewards Store is typically worth between 0.35 cents and 0.55 cents."
      https://www.finder.com.au/frequent-flyer-analysis-how-much-i…

0.55c/point was the higher estimate so I went with that. The lower estimate would make this even cheaper when converted to cash.

I think each qantas point is trading for 1.3 cents on ozbargain classified.

Qantas Points should always be spent on classic rewards flight.

Failing that never below 1c per point, especially if you have earned them though Woolworths as they give you a choice of 1000 Qantas Points or $10. This deal means you'd only be getting $5.50 back per 1000 points that Woolworths and Qantas have basically cash valued at $10.

The Qantas Marketplace is a scam to get people to burn points at poor returns.

    • I stopped reading the rest of the post when I saw this.

Unclear in what world 1 point = 0.55c

  • To Sydney, Standard Delivery $8.00

    • Go to checkout and it will remove it

  • Midnight Blue looks great. It's annoying that no discount on Black. Not that I like Black, just because I already have 2 Midnight Blue and would like another one in different colour.

This deal is on Q Marketplace quite often though.

  • especially if you prefer 2-wheels, consider Travelpro Maxlite 5 - about 550g heavier, but 9L bigger

    • +5

Half a kilo is a significant percentage of the 7kg that most Australian airlines allow for carry on. They usually don't check the dimensions of bags, but most of the budget carriers ARE checking carry on weights, and charging extortionate fees if you go over. That is why cases like the Samsonite C-Lite that are good quality and also under 2kg are expensive.

      • 0.5 / 7 = 7% = significant?

        • +2

It is when it tips a few grams over and Jetstar slugs you $$$

  • I never understood why people use these carry ons. My North face duffel (also has back pack straps) is at least half the weight and 55L, I guess hard sided = more protection. 1.9kg out of 7kg is already 27%.

    • Exactly. I always have a backpack as it weight so little i can make full use of the 7kg allowed limit.

Many times i have placed more than that and they never weigh it.

    • carry everything in the carry on without backpack? Wait until you're on international flights…

    • +1

I used to be the same, then hurt my sciatica. It's more convenient and comfortable.

    • I don't have a carry-on quite that big (it's a laptop bag with wheels) but it's more convenient to wheel your bag around the airport than have to carry a backpack.

Secondly I've NEVER had my carry-on weighed and I must have been on several hundred flights with my work and holidays.

Full price international they don't seem to do it a lot, but Jestar and Virgin domestically they often do. Also smaller planes they often do.

Wheeled suitcases are more ergonomic than a duffel, and no sweat patches from backpack in Queensland humidity.

    • +1

Ergonomics, and some people travel with a wheeled carry on bag + a small backpack/laptop bag that you can place on top of the wheeled bag. I've got a business trip soon where connections are too tight to check in a checked bag, so I will need to be taking 2 carry ons.

Also appearance wise it looks nicer to have a little wheeled bag when going into business meetings but this is debatable and subjective.

I've had bags weighed on many domestic flights (Qantas, Virgin, Rex), and I am on around 50 flights per year

  • Point Hacks values QF points @1.9c

    • It's in Point Hacks own self-interest to make points seem valuable though….

They aren't worth that much considering all the limitations on reward seats and the fact paid fares are going down.

    • +1

It's difficult to give a definitive value to QF points, but in recent years IMHO they have dropped in value. They are either not available when you want them (even looking 11 months out) or have lots of available seats one way on lots of days, but never any on any day on any return flights. I think that way they can say that they have x thousands of reward seats available, but nothing that is really usable. Then if they DO have any seats available, they now charge you the taxes and you end up paying a large percentage of what a discounted flight on Quantas would be anyway.

Unless you have a LOT of date flexibility their value is largely theoretical. If there is never any available when I need to fly, and no upgrades either, then they are worth nothing to me. If I can use my points on a suitcase that would cost me $300-400 guaranteed, that is worth it. Bird in hand and all that.

I have stopped collecting Qantas points because of all this and now only KrisFlyer points as Singapore Air seem to have WAY more seats available. I would rather have less points that are actually usable rather than a million "theoretical" QF points. The solution I have found is to stop flying Qantas, and just buy Qantas shares as they are making such massive profits by screwing Australians out of having a reasonably priced national carrier.

      • 100% agreed that it is not possible for a definitive value and is had been dropped as more airlines prefer to release the rewards seats randomly compared to a certain pattern pre COVID. Just want to show a different figure compared to what OP found.

However, I am still actively collecting points for future travels and I choose Qantas points over WWS dollars when converting the everyday rewards. I did redeemed 5 international flights in premium cabin by Qantas points this year and it is kinda fun to find these seats lol.

      • Point redemption experiences vary quite greatly

I've personally not had any issues with redeeming business class seats, even during peak times and not 353 days out. It just meant that I wouldn't fly on the "prime" days (friday/weekend) but I would still get business class tickets. On more popular routes you may have to think more creatively and do a 2 stopper via somewhere random, but there's still often ways there/back. It does mean that you need to check often and plan ahead and be a bit flexible with dates.

Fees on Qantas metal are decent-it's Emirates that you need to look out for.

I've definitely had no issues at all redeeming economy seats, especially domestically.
