          @dm01:

It might be helpful if you think of the T&Cs as a collection of promises that you're required to read and understand before entering into an agreement.

Did that. Took a copy of them, and confirmed my eligibility with ebay (which I have in writing).
They've not notified me that they've changed them, nor that I'm no longer eligible.
They'd need to do that before taking my money, as is required by Australian consumer law.

        • @jv:

They've not notified me that they've changed them

Again, why would they need to notify you of any change? You're not a paying customer with an annual membership yet!

Any offer is only valid until it's withdrawn. If tomorrow they decide to start immediately charging $79 for a 6-month eBay Plus membership and update the T&Cs to reflect this, but you have a screen shot of last week's T&Cs showing the fee being $49 for a year, you can't claim you only have to pay $49 because you have a screen grab of the old T&Cs! What you're trying to assert is no different.

They'd need to do that before taking my money, as is required by Australian consumer law.

No, you'd need to read and understand the current T&Cs displayed at the time when you're giving them your money, because as per the T&Cs you keep referring to, eBay reserves the right to change them. Very simple!

Again, why would they need to notify you of any change?

It's in their T&C's that they would.

          You're not a paying customer

I'm an ebay customer, have been for around a decade.

Already addressed this - see above.

@jv: Good morning, jv! I see your sleep didn't do anything to lessen the obtuse nature of your replies!

Lest you be left with an incorrect impression, allow me to elaborate; the eBay Plus Terms and Conditions do not apply to all eBay customers, but specifically only to those eBay customers who in addition to holding an eBay account, have also joined up their eBay Plus program.

I hope that clarifies the situation for you. You should discard that screenshot as it seems to be a regular source of confusion for you.

        • +5

man, this thread is like watching two brick walls argue ;)

        • +1

@jv: JV!! It's like eBay have heard your cries for clarity! Look what I just found in their FAQ:

Am I eligible for the Google Home Mini Giveaway?

You are eligible for the Google Home Mini on us if:

You sign up for a free eBay Plus 30-day trial in August and pay your annual membership fee on the day after your trial concludes; or

You have completed a free 30-day trial and:

          • i. ceased receiving all eBay Plus benefits and
          • ii. rejoin eBay Plus in August and
          • iii. pay the $49 annual fee in August

You are not eligible for the Google Home Mini Giveaway if you sign up for eBay Plus in August and cancel your membership before the end of your 30 day trial.

Found here, jv - I hope that is now clear enough for you!

Damn I thought it was sign up for the free trial of eBay plus and get a free Google Home Mini.

I'll wait for a better deal.

I'm over everything having a subscription service, soon it will be like PS+ where you will need eBay plus without losing big features.

    • Agree

  • +1

Bummer, already paid the $29. Would have cancelled and renewed for effectively a $20 google home. Way to stiff your early subscribers eBay.

  • +2

A minimum cost of $49 for a FREE item, is using an old and worn out con.

Ebay Plus must expect to profit overall from idle subscriptions, like Costco, Auspost, Amazon etc.
Similar to giftcards, value is lost on purchase.

    • +3

      Big + πŸ‘ (+'s expired)

The big question is whether we want a GHM or not; still undecided. Don't think eBay Plus personally offers me anything of value.

      • +1

Don't think eBay Plus personally offers me anything of value.

Finally, someone who realises that the value of an eP membership will vary from individual to individual and hasn't simple labeled it a 'ripoff' because it offers no benefit to their particular purchasing needs!

May the Force be with you, JJ!

        • +1

And with you too dm01. πŸ˜‰

I just don't buy as much as I once used to on eBay, but sure if I did again it should be excellent value.

  • -1

Prefer Shipster a more creditable program. Wasn't surprised to see postal scams of ebay continued +/-eP.. Ta for the cancel reminder.

  • if i've made my first payment after the trial which was in July, i don't qualify?

  • +2

Has anyone signed up for this offer and received a confirmation that the google home mini being sent?

    • I'm waiting too

    • Nope, not a word from eBay about it.

  • Update: Signed up August 1. Contacted them August 9 and they forwarded me not recieving my ghome mini. Today August 10 and was told that it hasn't even been set yet with no estimated date before I get it. Shame on you eBay.

    • Same here, applied 2 Aug, called them today the girl kept saying i paid $29. I said it's $49 with ghm. Then passed me to the relevant dept and was assured they are preparing to despatch the ghm but not sure of the status

    • +1

Update 2: Contacted ebay again about the GHome mini. Still no update. Got compensated with a ebay voucher. Maybe you guys can test your luck with ebay support too.

      • how are you meant to contact them :(
I've spent the last 20 minutes browsing their shocking website trying to find a contact form

        • +1

Go to help and get onto a live chat

        • +2

@PattyDaPanda: Ended up calling the Plus hotline
Not very helpful staff over there!
"A lot of people are calling to ask about it We will get back to you in 48 hours with an update"
          So we will see!

      • What's the amount of ebay voucher you got? Might try my luck as well.

  • -2

    Where is mine ?

What the hell is eBay doing ?

I thought private school enterprises are supposed to be efficient ?

  • +1

I was thinking whether I would use a ghm. After buying lifx lights, I want to be able to shout at Google to turn my lights on when I get home.
So I'll get use from it. Cancelled my free July subscription, just paid a year at 49. Works for me.

    • +1

Let me know how you go with adding the LIFX. Never did work for me (although havent tried hard to make it work). Decided I didnt want to "Hey Google" things when I could just push a button on tablet to my preferred saved Scenes. I just can't see GHM being able to understand the commands other than Lights on or off :-)

      • +1

        Will do!

      • You can do stuff (once the light is added to the cloud, then i think maybe google home app needs to add lifx too? bad memory) like hey google turn the lounge light on, hey google, set the bed light to 10%. I havn't tried colour stuff. It works fine except for when the bulbs sometimes go to sleep and need you to mash commands to it for a minute for it to "wake up" and respond.

      • Works perfectly, btw. Linked the lifx account with Google, and it's flawless. Highly recommended.
I can now shout at Google to turn on my lights.

    • +2

Very very useful for changing the brightness in the bedroom, its not convenient to pull out the phone, it feels awkward at first but it'll get better.

Like I use 30% at night then it's not bright enough during the day to pick out clothes in the morning etc.

Just use the Google assistant from your phone when getting out if the car instead of shouting lol.

      • +2

        I want to shout, though…

  • +5

I got mine delivered today. Came in an eBay Plus small box (photo here), was delivered with Australia Post trackable Parcel Post Service, it was a bit weird that eBay didn't send us a tracking number or anything, however the From address on the package shows 4PX - Sydney (Domestic), a PO BOX in Chullora…

    • Did you pay $29 or $49 for the eBay subscription?

      • $49.

        • +2

          Got mine today. Paid $29.

        • +2

@Hunnypooh: subscribed in July and paid in Aug? Looks like JV is getting his too

        • +3

@wtfnodeal: subscribed in July and paid on Jul 31st actually. Didn't even know about this deal till a Google home mini came in the mail.

        • +2

          @Hunnypooh
Strange as it is meant to be an Aug Deal i.e. subscriptions created or paid for in Aug. wonder if their systems somehow have stuffed up especially if you only paid $29 (and in Jul). Weird & lucky you.

        • +1

@Hunnypooh: Haha that's gold! eBay at their chaotic best!

        • +1

@wtfnodeal: Dammit, I'll never hear the end of it if JV does!

    Just got mine today too
Signed up on the 2nd August

    • Signed up on the 2nd August

      Paid or free first month?

      • Paid $49 - finished my trial prior

  • Ok I paid my $29 renew don't think I will get it

  • Got mine today, paid 49 and signed up on august 11

  • +2

Well interestingly, I signed up in July for $29 and lo and behold, I got my free mini today in the mail! Thanks eBay <3

    • +2

Looks like I cancelled my trial for no reason… Damn ebay and their T's and C's ;)

      • Same. This has been a poorly managed offer.

    • How? Did you get an email or something I got nothing signed up free in July paid August $29

  • I still got paid $29 for EP even though I cancelled EP at the last day of trial period. I contacted the live chat, and the helpful staff just cancelled the EP for me and money refunded to me. This Saturday I got an parcel from courier, and I felt a little bit puzzled. When I opened it, I can't believe my eyes: The Google home mini. Oh my gosh, I got my day! πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

    • -3

Shouldn't you return it to eBay if you don't qualify? The stuff was helpful and you should do the right thing yes?

      • +6

You must be confusing this site with OzMorals.

        • +1

          Haha!

        • -3

I thought moral should be for everyone not just oz. I guess you don't expect customers returns goods you sent to them by mistakes.

        • +1

@wtfnodeal: I hope you're going to return those extra S's that you typed by mistake…

  • -7

    What a heap of garbage:

I appreciate your effort in providing us a forum link regarding members claiming that they have received a Google Home Mini even if they only paid $29. XXXX, I can assure you that only members who have subscribed to eBay Plus and moved to a paid membership starting from August 1-31 were eligible for our Google Home Mini promotion.

I can understand your doubts but let me assure you that our Google Home Mini promotion will only be given strictly to those members who have paid the annual fee of $49. Also, we have an appropriate team who's monitoring every account to confirm if they are eligible or not before shipping the item.

    Garbage, garbage, garbage!

    • +8

What's the big deal? Some got lucky with Ebays system stuffing up and a few lucky people got a Google Mini on the $29 deal. Time to move on I think :-)

    • LOL imagine if they tracked those people that only paid 29 but received the google mini and charged them an extra 20, that will probably make you happy..

  • Lame question, but did anyone else get charged $48.99? Am I still eligible, as it always seems to mention paying the $49 membership fee?

    • +2

Mine was $48.99 on paypal too, got my ghm 16 Aug, signed up 2 Aug

      • Thanks mate.

  • +3

I paid & cancelled. No longer a plus member because of the debacle.

    • +1

      What debacle?

      • +2

Did you get a refund @Zandz ? I am in the same boat, they are trying to say the membership fee is non-refundable….

        • +1

          It is non refundable. link

        • @Hunnypooh: You dare quote eBay's actual policy? 😬

        • @dm01: from here ? 😱

        • +1

@Hunnypooh: Yes I know, but no one on here cares about T&Cs - they invent their own and then neg when proven wrong.

  • +1

Anyone here still waiting, I signed up on the 4th of August.

Is your eBay Account Registered Address a different address to your Primary Delivery Address?

eBay made a mistake in their wording for this offer. They wrote that the Home Mini would be sent to the user's Primary Address. They meant to write Registered Address. The only Primary Address is a user's Primary Delivery Address, there is no Primary Registered Address because there can not be a Secondary Registered Address.

It took me three phone calls to discover that the Home Mini had been sent to my Registered Address, and that it had been left at the nearby Post Office for a week.

      • Nope, I deliberately deleted all saved addresses on my account and changed both registered and primary address to be identical before I signed up to ebay plus to avoid issues like the one you experienced.

        • I just contacted ebay about my missing google home mini and it looks like they still haven't sent it and they have no idea when I am going to get it…

  • +1

Mine was delivered to my parent's address, which I used like 7 years ago, but has long since been changed in both eBay and PayPal.
Not sure how they managed to send it there as I can find nothing stating my primary address is my folks place. In fact my primary address in both eBay and PayPal is my current address.
Lucky my parents still lived there.

    • +1

Might possibly be that you have not changed your registered address. Same happened to me. My delivery addresses are all updated but my eBay registered address is still my folks place, where my mini ended up at.

      • Don't suppose you can ELI5 where I find my registered address in myebay?

  • +1

Does anyone know what the free item will be for September? Need to decide whether it’s worth signing up now for the Mini or holding out for a better freebie

    • +2

I've heard that next month's freebie is a set of egg cups - whether that's worth waiting for will depend on your breakfast preferences, I suppose.

  • +2

This is to confirm that i have received Google Home Mini .

    • +2

"Ok Google…let my buddies on OzBargain know that I've received you."

  • +2

Just FYI, I signed up for $29 deal with July, but paid in August. I msgd support just before the $29 payment came out (2Aug) which the ebay support confirmed it's eligible. I didnt recieve it, contacted ebay support again and they told me I was ineligible, only if I had paid $49.

I pasted the convo from previous chat and they acknowledged they shouldnt have committed to it, but sent me a link, then gave me a voucher code for the price of it. Good outcome and ebay support did come to the party once followed up.

    • Wishing I went down the same route you did. I ended up paying the full $49 for it.

  • When will/should we receive the free Google Home?

    • +1

Their conditions say they will send it 7 days from payment of the subscription

  • Auto paid on 1Sept, still waiting.

  • +1

G'day follow OzBargainers - for those who have received their Google Home Mini's, was it sent by 4PX perchance?

    • +1

      Hey and G'day.
I didn't buy one in the end myself.
I swear I have seen your happy profile pic on YA. πŸ˜‰

        • @yht:

I chat with eBay they gave me a tracking number.
